500ml bottle bought from Beers of Europe...

Poured a nice golden orange colour... White head poured typically big thick and foamy then faded slowly to good thick covering ... lots of carbonation rises to the surface... decent amount of thick sticky lacing...

Aroma - Good clove spiciness, light vanilla notes, noticeable grainy wheat, quite bready, pretty good fruitiness (banana and lemons), quite peppery, some hay traces...

Taste – Light malts, faint bubblegum traces mixed with some clove, definite yeastiness, good fruitiness (lemon, grapefruit and some apple notes), some very light floral honey sweetness, grassy and peppery hints, no real hops....

Feel - Fairly smooth with a little bite underneath... light body... Extremely refreshing and drinkable...

Overall - Another top notch German hefe... recommended...

Pours a nice golden brown and is smooth and medium bodied. No tinge of real bitterness or immaturity. Goes smooth and not overly heavy on the palate and stomach. Flavoring is even and consistent with little changing until it is gone. One to come back to time and time again.

A: Carbonation is prominent. Darker than most Hefes. Has a dirty brownish-yellow tint. No head at all on this one.
S: A fragrant bouquet of honey and clove.
T&M: It's very light and clean, with a slight spike and then it goes mellow again.
D: I like this one and will come back to this beauty again.

A murky, orange, golden beer with an everlasting head which is very mousse-y and creates a nice cookshat.

Smell is full of banana and clove and the ussual spiciness which is creates by the yeast. Some grainy wheat smell.

Taste is spicy with clove, without showing a lot of the ripe banana flavors. The wheat gives the beer it's ussual grainy smell, which always appear 'not fresh' to me. A rather thin body which fits the style. This beer isn't really much different from other weizens I had. A solid beer.

I had really very high expectations of the Hefeweizen but I have to admit I am a little
disappointed. It comes served in a great bottle, and a great Weizen glass; the pouring left
a huge generous head but when I tasted it, I felt it did not really taste like a Wheat beer.
The yeast in use did not taste like the typical German yeast used in most German beers. In
short the taste was pretty unexpected though there were hints of wheat. I felt that the yeast
was a little more similar to Belgian yeast but Paul, who tried my glass of Schneider Weisse
claimed otherwise, maybe it was really just me. The taste was pretty alright and refreshing
but still I preferred the wheaty taste that is so obvious and appreciated in the Erdinger
and Widmer's American Hefeweizen. Paul had a Schneider Weisse Original and I preferred that
to my Weizenhell Hefe. I am going to try the Paulaner's Hefeweizen which has been sitting in
my fridge for too long. I believe that one's going to show what a Hefeweizen's made of. :)

This is awesome. Perfectly balanced banana/clove/malt. Beaut thick, persistent head. This is the ideal hefe. Everything is in balance and it is not just typical of style but the benchmark. Unfortunately its bloody expensive and hard to get. That's all I've got to say.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Hef. I am a big fan of this German type of beer, and it is my most sought after beer. Bought this at BevMo and brought it home, frigged it for a bit, then drank with a nice size lemon slice. I would definitely recommned this one for a warm summer day, or even after a long day at work. The citrus flavors that burst out of this beer are amazing and cannot be passed up. If you life Hefe's you must try this one!

I definitely enjoyed this beer from start to finish. Poured a cloudy, golden brown after the yeast came into the mix. Massive head that remained for a good time. Excellent, somewhat toned down smell with some sort of fruit and a bready aroma. The taste reminds me of a spotted banana, my favorite, as the wheat does well to keep it from being too much. Ideal mouthfeel for a hefe and as drinkable as they come. Of the limited number of hefes I've been able to find, this one ranks among the leaders.

Poured into a weizen glass with a cloudy orange hue, and initially a large white head. However the head didn't last too long, diminishing to a ring within a minute or two. The smell is distinctive, more citrus and spice than other hefeweizen, and banana less prominent. To taste, there are more grain flavours against the sourness and spiciness, with banana emerging on the finish. Very good length of finish, combining banana, citrus and spice. Good mouthfeel - rather creamy - although the high carbonation, whilst not unsuited to the style, initially obscures the flavour. Refreshing and easy to drink.

Overall it's a good beer, but I think the real value of Schneider Weisse is its distinctiveness compared with the rest of the wheat beer crowd, and this is what keeps me coming back to it.

A nice, classic bottle fermented and aged Hefeweizen. Although i drank it early (I believe it was dated 10/30/06 and I drank it around 1/27/06), I was still impressed. I had many American Hefeweizens/wheat but wanted to get my hands on a real good German Hefeweizen to see what it was all about. Schneider-Weisse did not let me down. It poured a nice, dark gold/amber color with a quarter inch, off-white head with decent retention. It reduced a little bit, but a little swirl to release some of the aromas brought it back. The smell was magnificent with the fruits and banana esters rising to the occassion. At first, a slightly bland, seltzer taste, but I believe that was just me because after that first "coating" of my tongue, the greatness of what was the German Hefeweizen let me know that this beer was uber. A pretty thick mouthfeel; not too overwhelming but you knew you were drinking beer. Overall, a very refreshing beer and I believe that the fact that it was not that aged played a factor into the overall beerness (unfortunately, I saw the date after I opened it). Still, a great beer and highly reccommended.

A - Pours a cloudy golden orange, with a firm and creamy head. Plenty of streamers keep solidly in place.

S - A fairly light aroma of orange zest, lemon, yeast and a little clove.

T - The fruity ester start becomes yeasty and caramelly. Clove and restrained phenols appear at the end, leaving a clean and refreshing aftertaste with a slightly spicy alcohol edge.

M - Light bodied, with soft carbonation, which builds and becomes quite lively at the end.

D - Very drinkable. Looks good, has a delicate aroma and flavour, and is utterly refreshing. Very solid beer.

.5L into weizen glass

Pours a deep orange, almost brown hue. Perfectly couldy. Thick 2 inch eggshell white head with good retention. The head settles to a foamy cap. Moderate lacing.

Deep earthy yeast notes. Fruity banana aromas swirl throughout. After a swirl of the head, large amounts of creaminess show themselves. Light bready malt in the background to complement the fruit like aromas.

Medium bodied with zesty carbonation. Slightly dry finish, but still smooth at the same time.

Good well rounded hefe-weizen. Full of flavor and easy drinking.

Honey biscuit like malty flavors start out, then shifts to sharp fruit flavors. Minimal hop bitterness in the back of the mouth, just enough to oppose the malt.

Of the great German hefes that we get here, this one differentiates itself with more orange. This summer I've been making my way through as many hefes as possible and this one is pretty good. Mouthfeel isnt too light, like so many domestic attempts (pale wheat ale) and is a little bready without that being the overriding flavor. There's a bit of lemon, but I get more orange than anything. Very drinkable of course, go get yourself a bottle.

Crisp and clean as Weizenbocks go. Brilliant orange-gold appearance, moderately cloudy. Green apple peal aromatic front, banana middle, clove finish. Aroma is truly wonderful. Tastes fruity of pear, mandarin oranges, and wheat. A bit darker than most. Heavy carbonation, nice streaming. Very refreshing and drinkable.

This beer poured a very nice looking amber color with a big thick white head that dissipated within a few moments. The lacing on this beer is worth mentioning also as it was damn near perfect. Smell was of light fruits like pear, apple and peach. There was also a sort of medicinal aspiriny aroma that gave it a bit of a musty smell. Taste was pretty close to the smell, starting off with the aspirin taste and then finishing up with the fruit. Mouthfeel was really good...usually when I taste a Hefeweizen there isnt much hop presence, but it was certainly in this beer. Low alcohol content makes this a beer that one could drink for a while, which is nice for when your drinking for flavor rather then the effects. This is a really nice offering and one that I am delighted to have found over here in Australia. I'll definetly be picking some more up in the future whether it be here or back in Boston.

Appearance: Not your average weisse. Unusual dijon mustard color with a fizzy, rather than creamy, head. Surprisingly poor retention. Somewhat cloudy and very powerful carbonation. Interesting, but not the best-looking beer you'll ever see.

Smell: Very spicy, with strong notes of clove, orange, and banana. Slightly yeasty and biscuity as well.

Taste: Bold and well-balanced. Strong, almost numbing clove, saturated banana sweetness, but finishes surprisingly dry and metallic, with a citrusy wheat bite. The mouthfeel is very odd for a weisse, a bit thick, but sharply, aggressively carbonated; almost feels like a dubbel. Unconventional, but I liked it.

Drinkability: Most weisse beers are infinitely drinkable, and the unique look and feel of this one coupled with the big flavor puts it way into the win column for me.

A real standout in a rather bland genre, highly recommended.

This was found in the back of the celllar and was at least 3 years old. This review is about the cellaring of a beer that should not be cellared, it should be drunk young and fresh.

Pour is a deep muddy straw to a light brown color. Head is full and light tan in color. Nose exudes a earthy but yeasty note, not very appealing. Flavor starts lightly with a fruity citrus then turns to a metallic earthy bad combination. Finish returns to the fruitiness that was intended and leaves a nice aftertaste.

Drink it fresh!

This beer pours a slightly golden straw color with a billowing head of 12 fingers initially wtih the aggressive pour that falls to a 3 finger head and finally a quarter inch over the beer before drinking. The nose is nice, with a moderate banana and clove character. Some slight graineyness and wheatyness is present as well. The flavor is lacking a little in my opinion. I would like a more forceful banana. The flavor is just slightly weak overall. The feel is the same. The thickness I expect is not there. No creamyness is found. Just an overall lack of body. The brew is smooth and drinkable. I would still like to see more flavor and body. Just an okay hefe.

I was thinking about hefe weizens earlier today. Why don't I drink more weissbiers? They taste good and I really like my hefe glasses, so I picked up a bottle of Schneider Weisse Weizenhell on my way home.

This brew looks a bit different than other hefe's, pouring a cloudy amber color with a good size head. It has nice aroma of bananas, vanilla, clove and yeast. Carbonation and a spicy bite highlight the mouthfeel. The taste? You get a healthy mix of everything above, most notably bananas, clove and yeasts, in this. I think I'll be needing to pick up a few more bottles of this stuff- hell, some weizenbocks, dunkels and kristals are also in order.

Poured a nice dark amber with a moderate foam head. You could definitely smell the bananas and the hints of clove. The taste is definitely refreshing as the bananas and yeast make for a refreshing and fruity blend.

The carbonation is moderate making it easy to drink.

Definitely worth drinking.

Poures a nice blond color with a light orange tint with a big blooming head leaving nice lave down my weisse glass,clovey,spicey aroma with a some light banana but the spice is dominant.Cloves hit the palate right away with some but some citrus (lemon mainly) comes thru to make this a refresher and brings nice balance.What can I say a great Bavarian Weisse on par with the best in the world in my opinion.

Poured a cloudy copper colour with a nice thick head which diminished fairly quickly (mine wasn't a very vigoruous pour). The smell is of cloves with some other hints of fruit and wheat malt. Very bold clove and wheat malt taste with some subtle hints of banana - a nice lingering finish. Carbonation was not overly aggressive and made for a smooth drinking beer. This was a very nice hefe and I will be buying more of these.

Went well with pepper-crusted lamb steak...

"The Original Hefe-Weisse" comes in a half liter bottle, poured into my very own Schneider Weisse glass given to me by a very knowledgeable German beer fan. Opens with a gentle hiss and a slight gunsmoke. Pours a surprisingly dark color for a hefe-weisse (a light brown, rather than golden). I guess I am too used to the American wheat beers. Huge amounts of carbonation coming off the bottom of the glass- a 3 1/2" head is trying to collapse, but no way with all these bubbles coming up. Quite pretty. Aroma is malty, grainy, but different than all-barley beers. I guess I am smelling wheatfields. Flavor is very nicely balanced- no strong flavors pop out over any others, but I detect slight citrus notes and a lot of breadiness. Overall very drinkable; nice and creamy.

Tall and slender brown half liter bottle with a fairly distinctive white, blue and gold label featuring the image of either Schneider or his sone and a German baroque building below the name and seal of the brewery. Purity law applies. Best before 2/22/04, I didn't get around to opening it until 3/20/04. Me bad.

Pours a cloudy yellow, not noticeably darker than other Hefeweizens. The head is 1.5 fingers thick, white, and full of body. It lingers for a while, but not as long as I expect from a top notch German wheat. No lace. The nose is spicey and fruity, but really no better than average. The mouth is pretty light and very prickly - again, quite average. The flavor is good but mild spice and fruity tartness. There are no hops, but that is also average. The aftertaste is mild fruitiness. I know I'm bucking the trend here (and that my sample was beyond it's "best before" date), but I find nothing above average about this beer at all.

Ours to a very full white head with fine bubbles. Headforms a characteristic lace to the bottom of the glass. Aroma is somewlat more pronounced than the average for the style with a fruity and spicey note. The brew itself is quite pale and cloudy to the eye. The aroma carries on through the taste with fruit and spice coming through, maybe a bit of clove. Body is a little thin but the finish is very refreshing.
