The Tap House describes this one as "An Aventinus Milkshake" so yeah, I had to try one. Served in a frosted Aventinus glass, looks about a 14oz serving.
A - Deep dark brown coloration, beautiful head of froth that never left, great, thick layers of sedimentary lacing. Pair all of that with the gorgeous Aventinus glass, and yeah, perfect presentation.
S - Aroma of mint chocolate chip ice cream. I thought I may have been hallucinating, so I had a few others near me take in the aroma as well. While no one agreed with my ice cream theory, we all agreed on a strong dark chocolate presence.
T - Has the big yeast profile of Aventinus with a great dark malt backbone. Dark fruits also populate the body at various points, but the abv is quite apparent, and now, seeing the 12% mark on the site, I know why.
M - Smooth and creamy, but the alcohol burn causes a hit here. Full bodied.
D - Sorry, this is a delicious and balanced brew, but I could not do another, this is potent stuff. I'd recommend this one with confidence at any rate though, as it is quite tasty.

Most recently had on draft at the Frisco Grille, Columbia, MD.
A- Pours a hazy amber with a creamy off-white head.
S- Lots of clove and banana, this is a big weizen beer!
T- Warming, without the alcohol burn, lots of spiciness, especially clove and banana.
M- Carbonated well, is smooth on the tongue, full bodied.
D- Too big to have many, but enjoyable. A great winter beer!

A - Presented on tap at Brick Store Pub in a Aventinus glass. Little head and very little lacing
S - A nice malty smell with a hint of fig and clove and a touch of alcohol in the nose
T - A very big malt statement that is cut with esthers of clove and fig or raisin, a nice dry hoppy finish cuts the sweetness and gives it a great balanced taste
M - A nice blanced feel, just a little heat from the alcohol content
D - A very good beer, but being big can hit you hard. This should be sipped and enjoyed

Enjoyed this brew on tap in Decatur, GA of all places. Stop by the Brick Store Pub if you're ever in the Atlanta area. You won't be disappointed.
Appearance of this Weizen Eisbock was light brown in color with some evidence of bubbly carbonation. In this instance, it was poured into a gorgeous proper glass which had a long stem with the Adventinus label on it that opens into a goblet and has the label found on the bottle. Simply a great presentation. The head was as white as can be and hung in for most of the session.
The aroma was punctuated by the smell of wheat and malt with some fruitness. Overall very clean.
The taste was clean wheat, slightly sweet with maltiness through to the finish.
Mouthfeel was viscous but very smooth. Some evidence of alcohol in the finish but it clearly takes a backseat to the malty flavor.
This is a very drinkable brew that is not heavy handed in the taste when it comes to alcohol despite the aggresive 8% abv. Enjoy it on tap or in a bottle.

This was the most tempting option available at my local bar (which always has an excellent selection of beers), so I went with it. Glad I did.
Appearance - Rich, tons of head, and quite inviting.
Smell - Somewhat floral, at least for the style. Other than that, pretty it pretty much had an aroma of what it tasted like.
Taste - Quite malty, and I'd imagine it would go well with a cigar. Hints of vanilla, but a stronger presence of toffee, dates, and caramel. The alcohol is barely noticeable behind all the flavor.
Mouthfeel - Absolutely exquisite. Very silky and velvety. I have never had a beer quite so luscious. Exceptional.
Drinkability - Surprisingly high, considering how complex and heavy it is.
Overall, this beer was extremely enjoyable. I would not hesitate to get it again, and in fact, I'll probably try to get it often.

Dark caramel color with a nose of candy corn and/or dark candy sugar. Flavor is the same with stewed dark fruits - raisins and prunes with yeasty burnt currants. It was not without a certain character reminiscent of a dark/ strong belgian ale. Because of that I will take the regular Aventinus over it for its bock/weizen character. Really good though.

Ironically, though I lived in Germany awhile back, I tried this in Washington, DC. The beer was available on tap and served in a specially designed, cloudy 0.3 liter glass. Because of that, it was hard to determine the actual appearance of the beer, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt in this category. There was almost no carbonation... but this is not surprising given we're talking about eisbock.
There was the trademark Aventinus aroma apparent (chocolate-molasses with a whiff of wheat), plus some hint of plum and a strong alcohol overtone.
Flavor was intense and alcoholic; it reminded me somewhat of Samuel Adams Triple Bock. Definitely best enjoyed as a cordial rather than drunk as a beer.
Mouthfeel was more brandy-like than that of a beer, with almost no carbonation and lots of alcohol-burn.
Drinkability was fine, with the stipulation that it is definitely something you want to sip rather than gulp. Overall, very good for its type, but I prefer the regular Aventinus personally.

With all apologies to my friends who told me this was great, I could not believe the difference between the tap version of this beer and the bottled version. There is just no comparison. This beer's pouring at Ludwig's was worth half the price of the beer. The head is a tremendous thing to observe. The barmaid starts by pouring a pitcher full of the beer, which is about 3/4s white head. She lets that work. Then comes back after five minutes or so and pours a glass of the beer, think wide pilsner type glass, which again is 3/4s head. She waits another five minutes and then begins to pour the pitcher into the glass, letting most of the head run out over the glass. She cleans it off and serves a glass that you are now panting for. It is a dark, reddish beer with a smallish head since most of it has now gone down the drain. The lacing is long lasting down the entire glass.
The primary flavors to me are wheat and hops. There is an undercurrent of citrus, but it is not a real aromatic beer. The taste is a divine mix of wheat, hops, and a sweetness that appears to come from a fruity (citrus?) undertaste. This could be an addictive beer if it was actually available at more locations. Unfortunately, in the Philadelphia area, as far as I know, Ludwig's is it, although I haven't tried the Austrian Garden, yet.

I got this on tap at Halftime, in the 10oz sample.
The beer looks like a viscous, roiling mud. Completely opaque, a greenish dirty ochre brown color. Once they got the tap pouring right, it was topped with a thick frothy cream colored head. Not much in the way of lacing, but who cares.
Aroma is intensely phenolic and estery. Massive bubblegum, clove and banana. Clove is the most pronounced. Alcohol is apparent, with a solid caramel malty aroma. Very thick and concentrated smelling. Solid bulky maltiness.
Flavor is intense, with a thick creamy feel on the tongue. Almost syrupy. Powerful wheat malts, with huge phenolic esteriness. Clove spiciness, banana, bubblegum, plum, caramel, and a hint of raisin mingle together for a massive sensory overload. The phenols seem to creep up your nose with a paint thinner burning sensation. Extremely concentrated. A light alcohol burn towards the end, finishing sticky sweet. Slick, creamy mouthfeel, massive body. You can't miss any of the flavors, because they're all right in your face.
I believe the term decadent is listed in the dictionary with a picture of this beer next to it. I don't know what the alcohol is on this beer, but i was definitely feeling the 10oz I got of it. Oh so drinkable, like the best milkshake you've ever had, but the alcohol definitely sets some limits.

Poured out of a brown 11.2 oz bottle into a large snifter glass. Looks to be a 2012 bottling.
Appearance - Chestnut, brown, opaque body with a fizzy tan head of about a finger. Head dissipates after about a minute, leaving a ring of foam around the edge of the glass.
Smell - Dark fruits, raisins, brown sugar, alcohol, some sweetness. Reminds me of a belgian dubbel in some ways.
Taste - So complex. Starts with spicy, wine-like characteristics, with some sweetness and alcoholic ester characteristics. Finishes with plum and dark currant. Really reminds me of a wine more than a beer.
Mouthfeel - Again, very wine-like, in that it lingers and has a cloying aspect to it. Carbonation is just enough to break through the thickness.
Overall, a wonderful beer. I imagine this would go well with a nice cut of steak or a cigar. As it warms up, the flavor just gets more complex and interesting.

In a tulip glass this produces a large crowning head of tan foam, dissipates rather quickly, but leaving a very nice lacing. Colour is a ruby dark brown, a muted spiced rum appearance. 4
Smell has a very interesting character. Mulled fruits, a herbal spicy alcohol prickle. Overripe bananas, thick molasses caramel! Restrained vanilla, bourbon wood notes, just amazing aromas. Stone-fruit and lively earthiness. 4.5
T – an initial plummy sweetness shows a lot of interesting leather and caramel notes, rum caramel cake, sweet pecan nuts, coffee, a slight dry earthiness on the finish, some cardamom spice. Amazingly smooth throughout, light florals and underlying toasty complexity. Full rich and smooth maltiness with a slight underlying bitterness, mild earthy spices. 4.75
M – an amazing spirity warming aftertaste. Surprisingly little alcohol detectable, such a rich smoothness and then a full bodied finish with some drying alcohol really is something. Very satisfying. 4.5
Amazingly drinkable and delicious, with really good complexity. Such an interesting beer, very rich and good balance of flavors. Such a treat. So much going on, and yet works so well as a complete package, not much to complain about here, a very interesting beer, with a lot of satisfying spirit character that combines so deftly together. 4.5

Appearance: Very dark brown, but not quite black, with a slight fogginess / murkiness. The head is a work of art, with amazingly consistent tiny beige bubbles, almost all the exact same size. Thick and luscious, it lasts for most of the slowly-sipped glass. The lacing down the glass is remarkably strong for the ABV, but is not particularly thick. Close to perfect in appearance, but let down by the lack of clarity and some small particulate matter.
Aroma: Wow, this is amazing. Sweet dark fruits (plums, cherries, dates, figs, currants) initially, mixed with some sweet malt and honey. Slight unfermented wort aroma appears, and some caramelised sticky-bun type notes.
Taste: Very interesting and complex. There was a lot going on here, so I will do my best to describe. The same dark fruit in the aroma makes an appearance, but the taste is almost as if they were stewed and candied. Very smooth malt and caramel, with rich juicy Port / Torquay aspects as well. Honey, brandy, grape skins, and a herbal aspect in the aftertaste. Warmth from the alcohol helps boost the aftertaste, and is quite effective at helping to offset the sweetness. The bitterness from the hops was extremely well balanced, and really helped prevent this beer from being too heavy and overpowering.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body with medium-low carbonation. Thick and rich, but never heavy. Unexpectedly pleasant drying aftertaste for a beer this big (I assume from the high ABV). If I had to pick any flaw, maybe a little astringent and a little too dry (but I am grasping at straws here).
Overall: This is probably the best beer that I have had in a long, long time. It is extremely satisfying, amazingly balanced, and just so drinkable. It is something that can truly be appreciated sip-by-sip, like a fine wine or liqueur. I am interested in seeing how this one does with some age on it.

Served in a chalice. Cheers to Corey for making me aware of this one!
A - Deep amber hue with a fair kacki head. Good retention and lacing.
S - Super sweet banana bread, prunes and a touch of fig. I like it.
T - Follows the nose with the addition of nuts and nutmeg. No trace of the booze, short of a slight warmth.
M - Full creamy body with moderate carbonation.
O - A fantastic Eisbock that I will return to regularly. Buy this.

Pours a murky dark brown, with a touch of deep deep red, cloudy and muddy with a surprisingly large off-white head.
Candied sugar, sweet caramel, some dark malt, strong biscuit notes. The same aromas you'd expect from a dopplebock, only exaggerated. Unbelievable sweetness in the nose.
Taste is sweet, sweet, sweet malts all along the front, hiding a hint of caramel, some sweet biscuit notes, and behind it lots of raisin and fig.
syrupy, thick, carbonated. this is a serious beer with some serious body.
All around great, strong, and memorable beer.

Bottle number 2011 009776, so I assume 2 years old.
A: Pours a very dark brown with red highlights. Fluffy and very fizzy light brown head. Head fizzes away fairly quickly, leaving zero lacing and zero head retention.
S: Super strong, sweet and fruity aroma. Liked pure raisins, cherries and grapes. Lots of caramel with a little brown sugar and molasses. VERY sweet, like maple syrup sweet.
T: Super heavy and sweet caramel and fruit notes. Good variety of fruits, again with the heavy raisin (and fig now). Notable cherry and mild grape flavors. Maybe even prunes? Caramel and brown sugar from start to finish. A little bit of solvent alcohol in the finish. Less sweet, almost dried fruit flavors in the aftertaste.
M: One of the heaviest brews I've ever had (even though I have had 18-19% monsters). Has almost zero carbonation which doesn't help. Just feels like dead weight in your belly. Thick and syrupy.
O: A very unique beer for sure. Super sweet, super fruity and super heavy. No real carbonation. Sipper for sure. Good after dinner dessert I think.

33cl bottle into a snifter
A: Pours a brilliantly clear dark amber color with three fingers of dense white head. Retention is superb and lacing is great.
S: Bananas and prunes stick out the most in the aroma with strong breadiness and light gingerbread. Makes me want to take a sip.
T: Strong breadiness starts off with raisins, bananas, nutmeg, and walnuts. This reminds me of a banana nut bread with raisins. So complex, so well balanced. This is unbelievably good. I wouldn't change a thing.
M: Quite thick with creamy carbonation.
O: Amazing. My taste description says it all. Banana nut bread with raisins. Te aroma is very good, but the flavor is basically perfect.

poured into my aventinus glass
appearance: dark, earthy brown with visible carbonation and a half finger off-white head that very slowly dissipates
smell: this is my favorite part of this beer, and I love a lot of its parts. mild sweetness, inviting spices, and dark fruits in perfect balance. no alcohol in the nose, which is surprising for a 12% brew.
taste: this is just flat out delicious. follows the nose nicely with the sweetness of dark fruits melding together wonderfully with the spices.
Mouthfeel: medium to heavy bodied (closer to medium) with good carbonation. Although it is a bit thick, it still retains its drinkability. Its a sipper, not due to necessity, but because you want to enjoy every sip.
overall: Ive seen this around at a few different bottle shops but never pulled the trigger until earlier today, and thank God I did. One of my favorites as of late, and maybe one of my favorites period. Must try.

Bottle number 2012 something something… Tulip glass.
A: Pours a dark, toasty brown with burgundy highlights with off white head which dissipates quickly to a thick ring. Some effervescent bubbles. Very good retention but no lacing to speak of.
S: Rich, malty dark fruit, heavy spice, toasted oak, candied fruit.
T: Boozy dark fruit, sweet spices, candied fruit, finishing with some alcohol and mostly dry. Not at all sweet or cloying, which adds to the drinkability. Some fusel alcohol as it warms to room temp.
M: Warming, full body and smooth medium-light carbonation.
O: An intense, malty, delicious eisbock. A slow sipper.

one of the last samplers from my bro,
cross between garnet red and maple syrup for color. very clear, no yeast in mine, though it was probably poured that way for me. banana and clove make their subtle appearance in both the nose and taste, and a touch of vanilla. a bit weak on carbonation, but not in a bad way. abv is very well hidden . . . caution, too easy to drink!
cloves start to have more presence as it warms. silky smooth mouthfeel, if a bit thin. no surprises in aftertaste, just subtle lingerings

first off... I love high octane.. so right out of the gate we are off to a good start... @ 12% alc./ vol... I am in my comfort zone... poured into a snifter from a 12oz. bottle... looks and pours similar to a barley wine!... so far so good, smells much like a barley wine as well...lots of black cherry and a slight hint of vanilla...the taste is full of black cherry and is very carbonated...the finish is short with some lingering heat and slight flavor... all in all... I like this very much... minus the carbonation...

Pours dark brown with a cream colored head that dissipates to a ring. No lace but I have alcohol tears on the glass.
Nice sugary, spicy toasted wheat and banana note. Brown sugar, boozy fruit, and clove.
Sugared toasted wheat, brown sugar, clove, plum, some grain spice. Palate clears and banana and spice malt lingers. Alcohol has no flavor but you know it is there. Mild malt and spicy sweet on the palate as it dries. Very complex.
Full bodied with a tingle. Slick, mouth coating.
Great beer served in a 12 oz bottle. This one will kick me in the head. Complex, tasty, and inviting. Great brew.

A- Pours a dark brown with a two-finger tan head that retains excellently before becoming .
S- Unique aroma of wheat and spices. Clove, ginger, maple, brown sugar, honey among other sweet things.
T- Tastes like an amped up dunkelweizen. Well-balanced with notes of banana bread, clove and, of course, wheat. There's also a bit of capsaicin burn in the mix but is barely noticeable. You would never guess this was 12%.
M- Lots of snap, medium carbonation and a fullish body.

Picked this up on a recommendation from our brew club expert.
A- Murky reddish brown with a persistent off white creamy head that coats the glass. Very leggy as you expect of a 12 ABV beer. Cloudy is good here since it is a wheat beer.
S- Rich dark malt with floral and fruit notes that swirl together and recombine into something a little different with each sip. And I do mean sip with this one.
T- Like the nose, the flavor shifts across the palate. Dark fruit, fresh cherry and very little bitterness. The alcohol is well concealed but it will sneak up.
M- Full, smooth and well carbonated which captures the wheat beer style and avoids being syrupy. No heat from the alcohol.
O- This is one amazing beer. A wheat ice dopplebock. Complex like a good cognac and I could see savoring this with a good cigar.
