Semi-transparent golden in appearance, with decent carbonation. Lace is pretty spotty but present, nonetheless.

Nose is grainy and malty. Seems adjunct and corny to me.

Taste is mild and watery. No sense of hops at all, despite the bottle's claim. Not sure if this was a better beer before SABMiller bought the name, but this one's really pretty uninteresting. Avoid.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, Private Reserve is a clear, staw-blonde color with an active, fizzy white head. The nose is of lightly toasted grains and muted hops. Flavor reports more of the lightly toasted grains with a citrusy, slightly fruity finish. Hops are only to balance, they contribute little to the flavor of the beer, not exactly what I was expecting from a "Northwest-style lager". Mouthfeel is light in body with minimal carbonation. Overall not a bad beer but nothing exceptional either.

Pale yellow--looks indistinguishable from Budweiser, a touch darker yellow than Coors Light. Little head to speak of.

Smells slightly sweet and has that "mash" smell that you get a whiff of on brewery tours.

Tastes slightly bitter; there's a taste of burnt hops on the front-end, but a sweetness lingers. It's interesting, but not for me so much. Still, I can't score it poorly.

Very good mouthfeel. Swishes up to a nice, thick foam. Very full-bodied for such a crisp beer.

It's a good beer, not great. It's worth drinking, and picking up if you come across it, but it isn't among my favorites.

Got one of these for free from the local 6-pack shop.

Pours a pale yellow color with a touch more color than your average american Macro lager. The beer smells quite sweet but there is a touch of fruity and floral hops...but just a touch. The head appeared and disappeared extremely fast and the beer looks very effervescent. The flavor of this beer is, well, basically like any macro American lager. It has tiny bit more hop flavor than a Bud etc and a slightly richer flavor. The MF is thin and crisp and bubbly.

Glad I had one for free, but this is basically crap. This is an average beer and nothing else. Very bland and boring. But it is what it should be for the style I suppose.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap aquired at a local 7-11 and served into a Uinta pilsner glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average; this is me first beer from this brewery. Best before June 10th, 2013. Label art is okay. This is their flagship according to the label.

Served cold, straight from the fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a 2.5 finger head of beige colour, okay cream, decent thickness, and average (~2 minute) retention. Body colour is a weak pale yellow; fairly dull. Transparent and translucent. The insane bubble quantity makes it appear overcarbonated; it's almost champagney. No lacing as the head recedes. Pretty bland looking.

Sm: Artificial lemon extract, artificial lime extract, pale malts, corn adjunct, straw, sugars, a bit of medicinal character, grains, and bland floral hops. Off-putting. Not at all inviting or fresh. I'm not looking forward to trying this. An average strength aroma.

T: Structurally brief, with no real depth of flavour. Bland corn and straw grains form the weak pathetic body. Some bland floral hops sit atop the foundation. Weak lemon zest - very artificial. Too sweet and sugary. Not very enjoyable at all, but luckily not watery either. Crappily balanced and poorly built.

Mf: Smooth, wet, overcarbonated. Poor presence on the palate. Not very full-bodied; empty and devoid of flavour. Doesn't suit the flavour profile well at all. Unrefreshing.

Dr: Drinkable but forgettable. Very mundane. Not worth the $2 I paid for it. I definitely wouldn't get this again; there are far better beers in the style - many of them even made by American macrobreweries. This stuff is garbage. Avoid.

[Suggested Glassware: Lager Glass]

The pour was a crystal clear sparkling yellow with a small (less than 1 finger) white foamy head that reduced at a steady pace, down to a thin wispy film with fair spotty lacing.

The aroma was mild of a light grain malt, light floral hops and a mild cobweb yeast with notes of caramel and an adjunct (corn I believe).

The taste was lightly bitter with a very mild caramel sweetness early on, and then became a tad bitterer and a bit grainy with a crisp adjunct presence towards the finish. The flavor lasted only a short while after the swallow, with the mild crisp grainy taste fading fast from the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a ticklish carbonation.

Overall this brew was definitely nothing special and typical of an American Lager, although it was crisp and refreshing and might be good as a lawnmower brew. If you like this type of beer that is...
