A new-one-to-me IPA. A buddy had a sixer of this in his fridge the other day. As a sucker for all things-IPA, I grabbed one. Poured into a pint glass.

Pours a translucent pale orange with a small white cap of foam on top. Good sticky lace on glass. Fresh hoppy aroma, some citrus notes, grass. Not sharp in any way.

Crisp, clean feel. Refreshing. This one is easy to drink. Mild hop bitterness makes this one up. This is definitely not one that'll scald the palate. Some sweet tangerine, honeysuckle. Easy drinking. This one won't compete with the big trendy IPAs out there, but it has its place. Sometimes all I want is a mildly bitter beer that I can have a few of, and this one fits the bill perfectly. A good 'gateway' IPA for the curious.

A: The beer is hazy yellowish amber in color and has a light to moderate amount amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high white head that has very good retention properties, only dying down a bit and leaving lacing on the sides of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of floral and citrusy hops in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except the malts contribute hints of caramel and the hops contribute a light amount of lingering bitterness as well as some spicy hints.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate with some hints of crispness and a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This isn't a bad IPA, but it can seem like a run of the mill beer considering the flavors and bitterness that others in the style can offer.

12oz bottle, pours a crystal clear golden-amber color topped with a fluffy white head; decent retention, minimal lace. Aromas are floral hop, lager yeast (?), grain, caramel, metallic, a little soapy, which I find cascade hops to smell & taste like (no pun with the name). Tastes are toasted grain, light caramel, floral cascade hops glow from beginning to finish with a semi-bitter ending. Mouth-feel is thin to medium bodied, pleasant carbonation. Overall, pretty good, but seems to be lacking something. Probably wouldn't bother with it again.

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of floral hops, sweet malt, pine, slight pale malt, and candy sugar. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight earthy malt, slight caramel malt, hint of pale malt, and slight hops. Overall, good aroma, but the body is all malt and little hops.

I can get this for $5 a six-pack, making this a great alternative for your average American adjunct lager during a night of drinking with friends. An inoffensive, if not refreshing IPA (more of a pale ale) that works best when consumed in double-digit quantities over the span of a night in good company.

When it was poured, it has a fairly plain and pale appearance in the glass.
It unfortunately it does have much of a nose.
On tasting, it is very weak on the hops. I have definitely had pale ales with more hops.
It does flow smoothly across the tongue and throat. There is very little bite.
Overall, this is very average at best. To me, it feels like a weak pale pretending to be an IPA.

The beers clear golden amber with a tall dense head with lite carbs actually bordering on flat. Plain looking.
Smells mostly of malts, malt husks and toasted malts.
Taste is a bore with simple malts and husks.
Drinks fairly smooth and not abrasive as I was expecting.Easy drinking but lacking big time.

Had this on tap at a Quaker steak & lube. I didn't have much choice in craft beers, but I wasn't unhappy I ordered this.

A: a golden, copper color, very clear, no hop haze. Zero lacing.

S: I couldn't get much aroma off this beer at all. A slight toasty, bready smell but its almost neutral

T: a slight caramel flavor. Not much in the way of malt. It's tart but not bitter. Finishes tart, but not bitter. If there was any dry hops in here at all I can't taste them.

M: finishes clean and dry, bitterness and tartness don't linger

O: given the choice between BMC and this beer I will chose this every time. I'm not sure I'm interested in paying $5 for a pint of it.

First off, Ive been a Weinhards fan for years. This is their best brew I have tried yet. It contains a nutty aroma topped off with notes of caramel. The beer is creamy and has a nice tart taste. The beer is a bit too carbonated, but is relatively smooth. A very pleasant surprise.

Pours a slightly hazy copper with a dense one inch cream head that dissipates slowly, leaving sheets of lacing.

Bready, sweet, toasted caramel malt and a hint of dank and citrus hops form the aroma.

The flavor is dominated by toasted malt, bready at the finish, but more caramel early. Citrus is secondary, underlying the malt flavor. Nondescript citrus and a bit of a metallic flavor switch things up a bit. The finish is slightly bitter.

Body is a touch watery, with moderate carbonation and a bite of astringency at the finish.

A bit lacking in hop character, both bittering and flavoring.

Pours a golden orange with a fluffy white head. Decent retention, and a nice lace. Aroma is of bready malts, and piney hops. Body is on the lighter side of medium with some carbonation. Taste is of malt up front, with a fruity, yet bittered finish. On the light side, but I enjoyed it.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, Woodland Pass is an apricot-golden color with a two-finger pillowy white head. The nose is a mix of muted, washed out hops and sweet, light fruit malty notes. The flavor was displeasing on the first drink but as I sip on it it seems to be growing. There are biscuity and caramel malt notes with just enough hops to bitter; however I feel the need to lower the score based on the style this is listed as... where's the hops!? Mouthfeel is very, very light with a minimal, mouth-burning carbonation that goes down very easy (again too light for the style IMO). Overall, as an American IPA, this beer totally sucks. I do think however, if it were re-classified as an APA it would be more accurate and therefore get better marks. I would certainly drink this as opposed to BMC but would much rather reach for a Two-Hearted!

12 ounce bottle

Pours typical looking lighter almond amber, light khaki head, that stays nicely. Moderate strips of lace left behind on the glass.

Light bread on the sniff with minor hops also present.

Pleasant enough "IPA", this really fits more in as a pale ale, for what that's worth. Moderate resinous hops, pared with a touch of caramel late. Nothing special, but this a passable sessioner and/or a good one for you to turn newbies onto craft beer with.

This is not an "in you face" ale, with some unexpected taste. It is one the best ales I have tasted. It is fairly hoppy with a full body and nice foamy head. It reminds me of the best British bitter ales, although it's an India Pale Ale design. It leaves a great after taste on the tongue. The kicker is that it's priced very low compared to the competition. I only hope it remains available in my Ohio location.

A - Pours a very clear, bubbly amber with a one finger white head. no lacing.

S - Lots of grapefruit up front, lemon peel, slight toasted malt.

T - One dimensional. Moderate grapefruit and moderate malt. Not complex at all, But not bad either.

M - Medium, slightly watery body with almost no carbonation.

O - Overall, I noticed that a lot of people bash on this beer. Why? It's a good, easy drinking beer and nothing more. It would be great for somebody just getting into crafts.

Had in a mix-a-six from Kroger.

Good head! Two and a half fingers. Cloudy amber body

Smells of malt and hop, not much to tell.

Tastes not too bad; pine, grapefruit, but the finish is horrible. Way too sweet for me. Reminds me of the Honey in Windmill Wheat

Mouthfeel: Typical for the style.

Overall this is an average beer. I cannot say that I'm impressed. I'd try it again, but on draught.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and some herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and somewhat medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average IPA but it's drinkable and cheap.

The other two I had from them were pretty bad, so last one I was really skeptical about, the IPA.

Ug, again a friggen screw cap, although it does pour with a decent lookin 1.5 finger creamy pasty white head that fades at a med pace, with spotty lacing, over crystal clear tan straw color... surprising so far.

Nose falls a bit flat though, very light hops, mostly grassy somewhat herbal and earthy, if these are cascade hops they are either old, very small amount, or very poor quality, there may be a slight, and I mean very slight, hint of citrus. And a light amber malt aroma.

Taste is better than their other beers I think, but still quite bland. Hops are there, more dominant than the aroma by far, a bit spicy hop character comes out, fairly earthy as well, and a bit grassy. Bitterness is fair but not a lot. There is a caramel amber malt with a bit of syrupy sweetness, nothing too big. Finish is a bit flat on flavor, somewhat dry, light spicy earthy hops, a little sticky syrupy flavor.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.

Overall not as bad as I expected, but still not great. The nose is quite lacking, although nothing off, and the flavor tries to be there but misses a bit.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Passin' through the woods to tap some IPA. Or so the legend goes... Yeah, anyway, this stuff pours a clear blonde topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises sweet perfume, light wheat, light biscuit, and a hint of what may or may not be grass. Wow, this is sad. No word-mincing here, folks. The taste holds notes of mild caramel, very light pine resin, and a hint of lemon rind. Man, this tastes more like a really bland wit or something than anything resembling an IPA of any substance or worth. I'm sure at least A hop was tossed into the kettle, but anything beyond that is mere speculation based on the label text that apparently calls this stuff an "IPA". The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a slightly drying finish. Overall, this is a pathetic little "IPA", one that exists in the style only because the label says so. ...And that's really all I can say about this bland nonsense.

A: Tarnished orange with a brilliant clarity shows a light mention of slow steady carbonation rise. Sturdy, frothy 1 finger head is eggshell white in coloring and bready in texture. Thin film lace is nothing to write home about.

S: Caramel sweetness on the nose is light with a background of musky citrus hops. Aromatic level is very light and mundane, nothing that will make your nose hairs stand at attention, perhaps more of a pale lager. Fresh green leaves and a toasty freshness is faint but recognizable. but as anykind of ipa it truely is lackluster.

T: Flavor was clean, the malt base a bit reminensce of thier northwest style lager with a touch of speciality grains. Slight bump of cascade hops but hardly lager level let alone ipa level of respectfullness. Fresh forest tones of greenery and hops, slight toasted breadiness with some off metallic ting. Abit boring as such, light, bland with a faint detection of pine.

M: Light body, a bit watery with some caramel but lackluster in its feel and carbonation factor. a lazy lay on the tongue with some sour caramel twang coming on the swallow and a hint of silty residual coating.

O: Overall its their private reserve lager recipe with some specialty grains and a bump of cascade hops which makes this only marginable better by comparison but somewhat worse by style. Again more for the pseudo-craft crowd, and will surely dissappoint those looking for a good hopilicious ipa.

A: golden, straw yellow, 1 finger head, tight/thick foam. some lacing on sides of glass, disperses quickly

S: not much of an aroma, very feint maltiness

T: nothing very pronounced or noticeable. some hint of hoppiness, but not forward or prominent. Not typical of an American IPA.

M: noticeable carbonation on tongue initially, disperses quickly

Overall: not a memorable beer. It's not offensive or unpleasant, it just doesn't have much going for it in character. It's drinkable, but it doesn't stand up to the plenty of other great examples of American IPA style that are far more enjoyable than this one.

12 oz bottle pours a crystal-clear gold color with a small cap of off-white head. Not much for retention or lacing.

Nose is pretty bland...some light grains and the hops are a bit floral and grassy. Not overly appealing, but not offensive either.

Taste shows a bit more activity. Modest wet grass flavor, followed by a toasty malt and finishes with a herbal bitterness. Mouthfeel is not as thin as expected and the sweetness level is not overbearing. While nearly all facets of this beer could be improved, I am actually a bit surprised by this beer...especially since I just drank a tasty Flower Power before it. It's not half bad, I like it way better than the Reserve and the Amber Ale.

Pours deep golden with a thin white head that stays, leaving some lacing.

The smell is of floral/fruity notes with some bready notes. Mild, but pleasant.

The taste is on the thin side for the style. Still, it is pleasant and "inoffensive" enough. Some floral, hoppy spicing with a bit of caramel. Mild alcohol noticeable in the somewhat chalky, dry finish.

The feel is thin, but has enough to it to hold it together. Medium carbonation.

Fits the style well enough. Nothing great compared to others of its kind, but a decent enough easy-drinking, mild IPA.

Henry Weinhard’s Woodland Pass IPA has a thick, soapy, cream-colored head and a hazy (which gets more hazy upon swishing the bottle), bubbly, orange appearance. Lacing is quite pronounced. The aroma is of bread, bread crust, and hop oil, and the flavor is sweet, bready, and has a mild hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Henry Weinhard’s Woodland Pass IPA finishes semi-dry, mellow, and quite drinkable. Overall, this is a very good beer.
