This is not an "in you face" ale, with some unexpected taste. It is one the best ales I have tasted. It is fairly hoppy with a full body and nice foamy head. It reminds me of the best British bitter ales, although it's an India Pale Ale design. It leaves a great after taste on the tongue. The kicker is that it's priced very low compared to the competition. I only hope it remains available in my Ohio location.

I'm very surprised by the low rates for this fine ale. I found it to have an excellent aroma, firm head, great color, and a balanced bitterness. I also like an ale that is not excessively alcoholic. This is an ale you could enjoy throughout the evening. My personal assessments for pale ales and IPA's are almost always well aligned with those from Beer Advocate. This is the biggest exception by far. I will buy this ale again!

I am biased here, I have yet to meet an IPA that I didn't like...I'm smitten. That being said, great flavor, nice bite. Like it alot. Will buy again. Great body, had with Carne Asada Tacos. Enjoyed bbqing out of bottle, just a beast that way. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Henry Weinhard’s Woodland Pass IPA has a thick, soapy, cream-colored head and a hazy (which gets more hazy upon swishing the bottle), bubbly, orange appearance. Lacing is quite pronounced. The aroma is of bread, bread crust, and hop oil, and the flavor is sweet, bready, and has a mild hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Henry Weinhard’s Woodland Pass IPA finishes semi-dry, mellow, and quite drinkable. Overall, this is a very good beer.

On draft at The Good Life, Massapequa Park, NY.
Poured a medium copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.
The smell featured piney hops with a light soft caramel.
The taste consisted of an upfront piney and citric hop with a pleasant doughy round malt.
The mouthfeel was typical of the style.
Overall a very tasty and highly quaffable IPA. I think this beer suffers from the competition of the West Coast.

It pours a clear, light amber with a white head. Head retention is decent and the lacing is alright as well. It carries aromas of citrus and caramel, with a light malty backbone. The caramel is first tasted followed by some refreshing grapefruit notes from the hops. Malt shines through in the finish. There is a good amount of carbonation with a moderate mouthfeel. Overall, not too bad. Pick some up if you get the chance

I really like this beer. It's cost at $6.99/six is great, and while it's hardly a stellar IPA, I think that is what makes it so appealing. It's a milder IPA but definitely has that hoppy character that I love, but it's also smooth and you could drink a couple of these in succession without feeling put-off.
It's nothing to write home about but it's definitely a great standard, regular beer that I will continue to buy stateside and sneak back up into Canada on a regular basis. Gotta love these Northwestern brews!

In the end this is what really happened... Miller made the dicision to drop this label and make Lat 44 aka Latitude 44, which is basically the location of Eugene Oregon to better market the beer for Oregonians that like micro-brews but it failed and now it's gone. I think this sucks because Henry makes some good beer but they have no IPA and this would hev been a great addition to their label but now it's gone. The reason I mark this as on-tap because that is the only way they marketed the beer when it was called Lat 44.

Pours a light copper color with a 1/2 inch white head. Carbonation is visible. Head recedes to a splotchy film across my glass and leaves stringy lacing. The smell blew me away, it is sweet, grassy and floral. I almost feel that it could be described as smelling like an Oregon forest. The taste starts with a slight sweetness then I get a tangy citrus. Body is a little on the thin side but it has nice carbonation. Overall, this would be a great beer for a summer day when you don't want a full bodied IPA, but don't want to sacrifice the hops. My expectations were not high for this beer, but it really surprised me. This is really not meant to compete with inversion IPA, or Laurelwood workhorse, but I think it fits a niche of hoppy lawnmower beer.

it's back in stores in eugene oregon and will be available as a year round selection!... as of april 2011. i first tried this beer during the summer of 2008 and loved it, as IPAs are my favorite during the summer. it's not as nearly as bad as a macro but not quite as good as more expensive micros, but that's what is great about it... coming in at under $6 per six pack and sales on 12 packs for $11, it's a really great intro to IPAs.
i probably be drinking this all summer after exercising or mowing the lawn during the weekends. and according to the press release (google it), it's supposed to be available on draft in may. this is my favorite henry's beer.

poured into my favorite rainier beer pint glass
appearance is a translucent pale copper, like an uncirculated penny if i could see through it. decent head with an attractive lacing which remained as i made my way down the glass.
smell is of florally hops and faint citrusy fruit
taste far surpassed expectations. complex, if slightly unbalanced, but lingers long enough to appreciate the array of flavors present. lighter than your average IPA but this is one delicious brew. and i can usually find this for $9.99 a 12 pack? i'm sold!
this beer is highly drinkable. i find it hard to have just one.
highly recommended to APA fans but IPA traditionalists may find this one to be a bit lacking

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass
Clear copper in color, with a big, off-white head of foam.
Aroma-Faint toasted malt and floral notes
Taste-"soft' herbal hops, subtle caramel and toasted malt. A nice "entry-level" IPA. Easy drinking "burger brew".

I'm burned out on hops, so I'm biased. Pours to a thin White head and copper color. Aroma is piney PNW hops and a bit of sweet caramel malt. Flavor picks up the same as the aroma. Not intensely bitter as is the standard for American craft IPAs but does have all the elements, the malty backbone, bitter, resiny bite and dry, tangy finish. Mouthfeel is light for style. not to IPA snob standards, but passes as an English IPA in my book and has that American hop twang. If there ever was a sessionable American IPA, this is it. Good call.

Pours a clear, golden orange with a thin white head. Aroma was light, but good. Smells of hops, a lot of citruis. Taste has a lot of hops with a minor bitterness. Aftertaste has some hops but very "wheaty." Good texture, good flavor this would make a good session beer.

First off, Ive been a Weinhards fan for years. This is their best brew I have tried yet. It contains a nutty aroma topped off with notes of caramel. The beer is creamy and has a nice tart taste. The beer is a bit too carbonated, but is relatively smooth. A very pleasant surprise.

color is a pale orange actually more of a light rust, which when compared to even "light" ipa's is really pale
the smell is a little better some hops actually present but also present is the odd smell weinhard's beer produces
the taste is not bad hops and malt are both present, but once again it has the taste of a weinhard's beer of which i have drank every type and quite a few of them before i discovered craft brews
this beer is very thin but well carbonated
the drink ability of this beer is awesome for a few reasons the first
and most important is that it is a decent beer for an extremely cheap price $5.00 a six pack about $3.00/4.00 cheaper than (local) redhook, pyramid, or Bridgeport ipa's. The next is that this is a beer for the masses so it is basically drinkable no matter what your
pallet level is

Appearance has a clear mid amber color with a steady head and clingy lace. Smell has a sweet malty nose and mild citrus hops. Taste of grainy sweet malt, mild piney a little grapefruit, a fairly good balance. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. Personally I'm not much into Henry's and it's nothing complex, but this is actually a pretty good brew.

New one from Henry's Typical orange colour of an IPA with a nice enough looking slightly off-white head. Aroma is certainlly hoppy but really doesnt grab your attention, there is in fact a little unpleasantness underneath, but i had tio strain to catch it..so OK. Flavour is quite OK the hopping isnt too agressive and there is a nice enough complmentary semi-sweet maltiness, in deed the hops coat the tongue near the end, not bad. I liked the palate on this beer, not really watery but easy to drink, nice lingering hoppy after taste. Not bad at all at this price range ( under $10 a 12 pack). I am rather enjoying it. A good lighter IPA for the hotter months ( its is a Spring/Summer release). Overall excellent value for money.

Pours a pleasantly golden orange hue not far from tree top apple juice with a fairly vibrant two-finger head that fizzles to a thin bubbly film rather quickly, but redeemingly leaves some nice frothy sheets of lacing.
Smell is simple. A decent caramel malt profile with some ample green pine hops. The hops are typical nw ipa in profile, yet somewhat subdued and unmemorable, although inoffensive.
Bready malt, hints of caramel and honey, followed by a fairly strong hop profile, with some earthy bitterness, some fresh green hops, and a healthy dose of citrusy hops. Kinda funky, but not awful. Pretty one dimensional but also pretty damn drinkable.
Mouth has some crazy carbonation... vibrantly fizzy... not so much as to detract from the overall brew, but almost. Astringent bitterness lingers.
All in all, this isn't one I'd particularly seek out, but it's a solid six-pack IPA that drinks easily and certainly doesn't break the bank. Surprisingly hoppy and bitter. One to drink without abandon. It's a good burrito or pizza beer, and the price point is solid enough I know i'll be buying more.

Pours a dark golden, amber color. A good amount of carbonation with a sticky white head that laces down the glass all the way down the drink.
Smell is very nice. Definitely a stereotypical Oregon IPA. Hop dominated with smells of flower and orangey citrus.
Taste has a good balance to it. Subtle hop notes linger on the tongue with tastes of Oregon hops. Flowery and piney hops.
Mouthfeel is nice. A good thickness, but very smooth at the same time.
Drinkability is good because of a nice balance of tastes. Nothing crazy or special going on here. However, if you have a buddy who doesn't like craft beers or thinks IPAs are "skunky" get a 6 pack of this beer for them. A great IPA to convert the masses.

This beer pours up a pale copper with an off white one finger head and lots of delicate spider web like lacing on the glass. The smell is floral, grasses, and citrus. Taste is a little bit of sweet orange on the front and the usual hoppy grapefruit finish. Mouthfeel is sort of medium but the aftertaste, while mild could be better. It's not bad, but there are better IPAs out there.

Clear dark gold color. Good head for a bar pour. Leaves ring lace after each sip.
Metallic (iron-like) smell. Light and mild pale ale aromas. Muted hop.
Better flavor than the smell indicates. Fairly middle of the road, taste-wise. Dry, as if a bit of rye were added. Hop bitterness provides balance but isn't enough to fit the typical IPA profile. Medium bodied with a mildly elevated carbonation.

The beers clear golden amber with a tall dense head with lite carbs actually bordering on flat. Plain looking.
Smells mostly of malts, malt husks and toasted malts.
Taste is a bore with simple malts and husks.
Drinks fairly smooth and not abrasive as I was expecting.Easy drinking but lacking big time.

This is a good low priced NW IPA, I paid around $6.00/six -- great price really. Pours a nice healthy head that sticks around to the bottom. Not much aroma, bready with a hint of a skunk. The bitterness is just right -- not too much bite but this is supposed to be an IPA right? I really enjoy this beer -- refreshing and clean tasting. This is Henry's best so far.
