Not the best of the Weinhardt choices.
Pours a pale yellow. Decent sized head, but looks suspiciously macro-lagerish.
Taste, and smell, is bland an unappealing. Somewhat crisp, and not skunky as many beers of its ilk, but nothing to write home about. There are much better Weinhardts to try.

The label reads "Blue Boar Pale Ale" not "Blue Boar Ale" which is why I put the review here. They may be juggling/condensing their labels. Take note, this is not a pale ale by any means, but a light golden ale, with significant lager-like tendencies. I was recently offered a bottle of this out of an enclosed 12-pack, and was wholeheartedly impressed by how good and fresh it was for this style of beer (macro) and how crisp the hop character was. I then purchased a 6 pack, and it's turned out to be inferior, perhaps due to lightstruck green bottles in a non-enclosed carrier. Perhaps it's an older sample too. Henry's gets ragged on quite frequently, but with production at Full Sail's brewery, expect things to improve. If the original sample I had is any indication, there could be some very decent, cost-efficient beer with Henry's name on it.
This sample itself is a pale straw color. Head rose nicely, dwindled to a thin ring and left a good bit of lace. Slight Euro-skunk aroma that should appeal to Heineken drinkers. Your basic macro lager, with clean malts, fortunately not too sweet or adjunct-y. A light fruitiness from the ale yeast and just a trace of diacetyl. Hops are significantly weaker than my original, superior sample and offer little more than a light gumminess. Still, the beer goes down easily enough and is an improvement over the Pabst Blue Ribbon that preceded it. An adequately refreshing bottle of suds.

This pale ale is about average. It pours a light amber color with a foam head that fanishes to quickly. The smell is of strong hops with hint of malts. The taste is strong with hops in the beginning flat in the end. In the mouth you feel the hops kicking and then it leaves much to be desired. A drinkable pale ale, lighter than most, an average beer at a great price. You can find these if you look for 3.99 a six pack. Not bad when you are low on funds!

Pours a clear golden color with a thin white head.
The smell is of a little pine and maybe some champagne.
Taste is a crisp bite of champagne, there is some hops here and a little malt. Quite watery. Nothing special here.
Mouthfeel is light and crisp.
Drinkability is mediocre, very lacking in the flavor department. Not something I would seek out again.

poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass, poured a clear golden yellow color, with a white head that dissipated to small ring very quickly. This beer does not smell like the pale ale's I am used to, it smells skunky sort of like heineken. The taste is very plain and boring. Drinkability is ok, but this is nothing I will purchase again.

Had this beer at the Amesbury Beer Festival on Sep 22 2012.
Most of the beers were served from bottles into small 3oz plastic pixie cups.
Although I took notes on the 20+ different beers that I tried, it is difficult to remember all of the details associated with each beer. My apologies to readers of these notes. However, I did pay attention to my overall scores, and noted what I thought were unique positives and negatives w/ each beer.
Note that for me:
< 2.5 = probably would not finish the beer
3.0 = drinkable beer, but likely would not buy again or look for
>3.5 = will try to buy again in the future
Found this beer to be very smooth. Nice blend of hops and malt. Less bitter than other IPA's
FYI: the ABV is 6%
Will review again in the future, and will try to pit it against some of my favorite IPA's to see how it fairs.
