Formerly: Petrus Dubbel Bruin Ale

Petrus Dubbel is a dark brown full-bodied beer. The bitterness is derived from six different malts giving it an extra coffee flavour and a slightly nutty character.

Pours a dark-brown color with a medium top of beige head that dissolves quickly.
Aroma is coffee, dried fruits, dark bread, nuts, spices, caramel and some dark chocolate.
The taste is of dark malts with notes off coffee and caramel, allong with some sweet fruity notes upfront. Finish is slightly bitter but a little thin and watery.
Mouthfeel is smooth and soft with a medium carbonation and a medium body.
An absolutely decent and drinkable dubbel, considering the aroma was quite pleasant, the flavour was slightly dissapointing.

Bottle at Las Buenas Pulgas served in a trappist glass. Dark brown colour, medium off white head with medium retention, good lacing. Aroma is weak, some red and black fruits, licorice,, spices and cocoa. Medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation. Bitter finish. Taste follows the aroma with a twist of bitterness. Not bad, not really good.

Poured cola brown with white fizzy head. Head fades quickly. Instant aroma of strong coffee and malt. Taste follows, a little overbearing coffee with nuttiness and bitterness of dark chocolate. As someone mentioned below there is a distinctly chalky feel and I'm not sure about it. Not the nicest dubbel I have had.

Purchased In September 2022 from Nardi's Cellarbrations in Highton, VItcoria, as part of a gift pack with the Tripel, Dubbel and Blond and a big, branded glass. Drunk in July 2023.

L: Dark purple brown with scarlet highlights and a thin, dirty brown head. No carbonation is seen in the glass.

S: Sweet malt, port wine, cough medicine, brown sugar, Christmas cake, dark fruits. It's got it all!

T: Very closely resembling the nose. It's sweet and luscious, with definite port wine overtones mixed with Christmas cake and dark fruits. The cough medicine note is there too, almost Dr Pepper-like in its effect. There's no hint of the 7% ABV.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, and carbonation is mild. There's a slight chalkiness in the mouth; otherwise, the mouthfeel perfectly matches the flavour profile.

O: A very lovely, quaffable beer.

Cheers!

11.2oz bottle, served in a Tulip glass. Date stamp on back of bottle: 41540 (whatever that means). No other label on this, so hopefully it's not way past due.

Appearance: Slow pour yielded a clear very dark brown beer with some coppery/amber/red highlights at the edges and when shining a light through it. Very thin off-white head that died back to nothing - no real lacing noted either. The bottle had a film of sediment in the bottom of it which was pretty well caked on and it took some significant rinsing to get it off. Makes me wonder how long this was on the shelf.

Smell: Sweet with some caramel notes, fruity esters, and some plum/grape aroma. Interesting.

Taste: Sweet with caramel, fruits (dark fruits, some berry notes), and a hint of molasses. A tiny bit of bitterness and metallic at the finish.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, but with very little carbonation. A little sticky on the teeth, but not excessively so.

Overall / Drinkability: Definitely on the sweet side for a Dubbel. Not bad though, and if it was old, it seems to have held up well, but one is enough.

Bottle. Dark brown with a thick, light tan head.
Smells of dried stoned fruits and treacle.
Very malty flavour. Some golden syrup and hints of dark chocolate and charred bread. Slightly sour finish.
Light carbonation at the front and then feels flat at the back. Medium body and a bit tacky.
Slightly above average Dubbel.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Dark brown colour, huge tan head. Nice aroma - some fruit, notes of malts, caramel and bakery, hints of spices. The flavour is malty sweet with plenty of caramel, also raisins (a certain fruitiness) and chocolate. Some hops in the finish. A good beer, but slightly too much on the sweet side.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)…
L- Deep chestnut red, pours clear, filtered I think, witha 5mm super-fine bubble mid-tan head.
S- Deep with a fruit note, almost like stewed rich plums/prunes. Possibly a hint of ABV% peaking through...
T- Big deep malty aspect with an almost sweet+sour facet to it. It's pungent and yep I get the subtle sour again with a dry brushing across my palate...
F- Clever combo of deep, rich yet the light sour bringing balance to the feel.
O- Nice balance here. Very malty and yet the sour/dry edge means it doesn't cloy on the palate. Still pretty full-on, might be better for cold season... like right here 'n now.
Mine was 7% vs 6.5% in the Description. But, my point is it still seems to make very good use of all that % for solid impact.
330ml bottle BB: 19/08/2022 £3.27 Bought from BelgianBeerCompany, Stoke/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

S - Malt and molasses with a hint of cocoa
T – Same as aroma with malt and sweet molasses with a slight chocolate finish

O – I always try t review to the style. The Dubbel has never been one of my favourite styles, but this seems pretty solid

11.2 oz bottle with no bottling or best by dates
Pours a translucent mahogany brown with scant head, scattered spots of lacing, eventually only a partial ring of carbonation.
Cherry, molasses, toffee aroma
Sweet caramel, light cherry, colanut, prune, ginger flavors
Smooth, medium mouthfeel, low carbonation
Bargain Belgian! A dollar less than Chimay, Westmalle, Rochefort in our shops. Not much depth, but pleasant.
