A) Bronze summer straw hay, hazy & thick with abundant suspended carbonation and yeast. Fluffy white head settles but leaves a smooth white layer

S) Citrus juice, esthers, baked bread. Muted sour mash

T) Sweet candy sugar, bananas, orange, caramel malt. Very refreshing & crisp. Alcohol is mild but you'll know its there soon enough

M) Wonderful effervescent bottle conditioned carbonation. Lasts and lasts. Very smooth.

D) I really enjoyed this well crafted, refreshing triple.

Petrus' tripel is a fairly subdued version of the style, with sweetish pale malts and mild apple/pear fruit esters leading the aroma and flavor charge. The simplicity doesn't work against this beer, though for a tripel it feels a bit uncomplicated and somewhat lacking. An average tripel, not something I see myself returning to again.

Pours a very tall head of small to large-sized bubbles (large making up the top 3/4, small the bottom 1/4), which has above average retention, lasting several minutes. The head gradually falls to a 0.5cm cap atop the body, leaving modest lacing along the sides of the glass in the form of a few large spots and irregular lines. The body is a deep gold color, transparent, with light bringing out a deep, cool, pale yellow color. Carbonation is very extensive and quite active.

Aroma of pale malt sugars, cooked corn (DMS), and less noticeable yeast and uncut apple and pear scents. Not particularly wonderful, but not terrible, either.

The dominant flavors are pale malt sweetness and apple/pear fruit esters, with background flavors of honey, yeast, and bittering hops. Opens with pale malt sweetness, apple and pear flavors, very mild honey and yeast. Mid-palate finds continued pale malt sweetness, apple/pear flavors, mild honey, some beer-soaked white bread, and even more mild European hop bitterness. Back of palate continues to taste pale malt sweetness, mild honey, white bread, apple/pear esters, and lightly bittering hops. Aftertaste is of pale malt sweetness, honey, slight European bittering hops, and slight yeast.

Beer is medium-bodied, with carbonation of medium intensity. The resulting mouthfeel is slightly fizzy, then smooth and foamy. No ethanol is detected on the palate. Closes dry, with moderate stickiness remaining on the palate.

Pours out a massive head, and it goes no where, settling into a dense meringue. Hazy, yellow body.

Really good aroma of fresh bread, floral hops, fruity yeast, and something akin to a unique water source scent.

Big carbonation and bubbly body help hide the 7.5% strength. Kicks off bready/yeasty, then a floral/herbal hop bite cuts it all off dry. Very nice.

Really solid Tripel! Maybe my favorite ever. So easy to drink, no indication of its strength. And the flavor is so well balanced and delicious. Loving this!

Good beer, refreshing and easily drinkable for a Belgian Triple. Even though not very complex as you may expect from this kind of beer.
Taste is medium sweet with light bitterness.
Medium body, average carbonation and bitter finish.
Overall, I would not particularly recommand this triple.

750 ml bottle into chalice, bottle code 38596. Pours very hazy golden orange color with a nice 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of apple, pear, apricot, grape, honey, bread, herbal, floral, candi sugar, earthiness, and lightly spicy yeast esters; some slight cardboard but its not too noticeable. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/malty notes. Taste of apple, pear, apricot, honey, grape, bread, herbal, floral, candi sugar, earthiness, and lightly spicy yeast esters. Lingering notes of light fruits, bread, honey, herbal, grass, candi sugar, earthiness, and light spicy yeast esters on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of fruity/malty notes; with zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly slick and lightly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Tripel. Very nice balance and complexity of fruity/malty notes; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

A- The beer pours a full glass of off-white foam that eventually boils down to a clear golden yellow body with a gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles.

S- Notes of nectarine skins in the yeasty esters that finishes with some wet stone notes and some ripe fruit notes in the finish.

T- The dry stone fruit flavor has a jam quality to it with some soapy flavors to follow. The taste is very quick with a clean finish brought on by the tight fizz. There is some dry green hops has some unripe fruit notes to it.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a full fizz in the mouth with no real alcohol heat noticed.

O- The nice blend of subtle flavors is nice but it is missing more of the classic yeasty flavor or malt or hops that would make this beer a bit more tasty.

OK, I did not plan to review this rather odd Petrus offering, but the unusual reviews from others dragged me into the discussion. This is an extremely fine mediocre Belgian. True it is nothing special, but Total Wine offered a four pack special and the price justified giving Gulden Tripel a try, it is well worth the discounted price. I hesitate to judge a brew by the price, but I always fall back on Anchor Steam or Sierra Nevada for precisely that reason, fine beer and justified price. Now, as what to expect, nice clean taste and appearance, decent head with average carbonation. I detect a touch of citrus closing out a very acceptable alcohol level, no bitterness and about half way through the clean finish actually begins to please the tastebuds. I will not stock up cases for aging, but I will be more than happy to run out of Total Wine with another four pack.

Bought this 750ml bottle a few months ago and indulged on 17OCT12 while enjoying one of the few remaining warm, Fall days...

Poured into a small tulip glass. It was mostly clear, and medium-golden hued. Head was a healthy, fluffy mass of white foam. It lasted quite well, ebbing slowly and it left excellent lacing. Nose was mild, with some bready qualities plus some tropical fruit. Medium in body, the feel had a touch of prickliness on the tongue, yet it was still solid.

Tasted light sweetness of some crackery malt and it was a little doughy. Mild green fruit (pear, apple) came into play, and it was quite on the dry side. Had a touch of peppery spice near the finish. Not bad, but nothing to write home about either. Prosit!
