Poured a clear, golden straw with very little head. A funky brett aroma is evident even with the glass away from your nose. I also get chardonnay and soft, stinky cheese with a swirl. Pale Belgian malt serves as the evident backbone with white wine, brett, and a little champagne flavor as well. Subtly bitter malt and hops set in slowly to end on a soft note. Thin and dry, this is a very sippable beer.

I was at The Trappist and my friend wanted to try Petrus, which I hadn't heard of before. When the bartender said that the Petrus Aged Pale was made for Michael Jackson, I stopped him in his tracks and asked him to retrieve a bottle for us. While he was pouring it for us he explained that Bavik approached MJ himself to ask what type of beer he would like them to make. When he asked for a Flanders Pale, Petrus was confused. How would one make such a thing? They put their heads together and made it happen. The back story surely changed my expectations of the beer, but despite this, I feel I can look past it and say with certainty that this is a great beer. The only flaw I feel worth mentioning is that the taste profile is a bit thin and fleeting. Still, this is a complex beer showing all the colors in the thin spectrum of flavors it illuminates. Not something you'd want any given day of the week, this is a special beer for a special occasion. Our occasion was a Saturday night. When you find your occasion, seek this beer out and enjoy.

Poured chilled in flared sample glass @davewhite4, the third of a Petrus trilogy.

A: pilsener-like; little head; very good carbonation; not much lacing
S: very sour aroma; quite prominent for a sour ale (the best nose of the three we tried)
T: lemon, honey, much like a cold hot toddy; very sour, Pimms-like; I don't detect the aging; flavorful throughout, with fruit flavors matched nicely against the sourness
M: decent

Best of the three Petrus beers

Appearance: Frothy chardonnay...that description about sums it up. A bit darker than a white wine.

Smell: Doesn't match up with the rest of the beer. Sourdough...slightly off-putting. It's good, but I would like it a bitter stronger.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Pungent bleu cheese and vinegar with a lemon finish. A grapey wine flavor as well. Petrus Aged Ale gets very complex as it warms and improves on its yeasty characteristics. Clean finish that complements the acidic traits perfectly.

Overall Drinkability: Takes some getting used to, but this will wake you up. World. Class.

Serving type: on-tap
