A very nice seafood restaurant located between the university and colonial Williamsburg. Not a beer destination in the winter, but decent beers on tap.

The Taphouse Grill is only open in the summer months. The restaurant is year-round. The Grill has 8 or so taps, but they were not active during our visit. Inside, there are 4 taps with a Starr Hill (Monticello), a St George's (Golden), a Heavy Seas (Loose Cannon), and an Alewerks (Washington Porter). Nothing to get too excited about, but good choices to pair with the food. Beers are served in German glassware in two sizes, 10 and 20oz.

The food is the star here, excellent seafood presentations and selelctions. My wife had cioppino and I have salmon and scallops in parchment. Both were good enough that we went back for more on the second night of our stay. Food is pricey, but worth it.

Service was attentive and knowledgable.

The outside area looks nice and I can easily imagine that becoming packed in warmer weather.

Worth a shot if you are in town and especially if you want some decent seafood.

Berret's is actually two places in one. A nicer restaurant on one side and a more casual "taphouse on the other" While killing time waiting for the Missus to do some shopping I decided to have a pint. Nice U shaped bar in the middle of the room with some tables along the edges of the room. There is room for outdoors seating, but since it is January no one was out there.

The service was OK. I was just getting beer, so I neither asked for or received any special attention. I did have to ask not to get a chilled pint glass. There were a few people in there having lunch and getting out of the cold but it wasnt slam crowded or anything. I imagine in the summer or fall this place can get nuts as it is just on the cusp of Colonial Williamsburg.

Eight beers on tap and most all of them made in Virginia. Oak Barrel stout and Tuppers from Old Dominion, Legend had a couple of taps, as did St. George. Mobjack and some brewery in Fredricksburg had the other. Nice to see local taps so well represented. Unfortunately most of the beers were a Golden, Pale, or Red ale, so except for the Stout it was not the largest variety. Bottles are available as well and I noticed beers from Victory, Harpoon, Corsendonk, Hoogarten.

I didnt try the food , but the menu looked like upscale sandwiches and salads. The entrees looked good, but pricey. Overall I would go back and kill sometime and a few pints here. Its hard to go wrong with an Oak Barrel Stout or Tuppers Hop Pocket while whiling away the hours
