a: cloudy orange with about a 1/4 inch of bright white head.

s: wheat, banana, apricot, spices, yeasty esters, maybe some apple as well.. pretty nice..

t: touch of wheat & grain upfront.. banana & yeasty esters then come in.. more of that apricot flavor & also maybe a touch of apple.. finish is a bit chalky/dry with hints of spice.. maybe some nutmeg flavors with an underlying citrus flavor..

mf: light-medium body with good carbonation.

o: a good brew.. refreshing, especially for summer

On tap at the brewery in Sedona. Poured a muddy yellow/orange/amber in color with a small, creamy, dense, white head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer and around the edges. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of wheat, banana, vanilla, coconut, and some clove. Medium body. Slick then dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Wheat, banana, clove, vanilla finish is dry. Overall, a really nice American hefe!

Pour is hazy yellow to amber. Nose of over-ripe banana and a bit of burned malt - clove comes in.

Entry is a bit spritzy, big clove flavor followed by banana. Soft feel from the oats. Nice hefeweizen flavors - hits german style weizen quite well. Mouthfeel waters out a just a bit as it moves through. Very refreshing beer which should play well in the summer heat of Arizona. Excellent flavor profile with a fine representation of the style.

A - Pours a cloudy golden orange with a 1 finger white head that doesn't stick around long.

S - Banana peels, solid wheat backdrop, nutmeg, with a hint of orange

T - Yeasty bananas, stone fruit, clean wheat, nutmeg, clove, oranges, subtle sweet malt.

M - Very smooth medium body with low to medium carbonation.

Not too shabby. This is a very enjoyable Hefe.

(12oz bottle). Pours hazy golden with minimal white head. Aroma of ripe banana, spices and wheat. Taste is sweet-almost perfume like. Medium bodied with slick texture. Very smooth finish. A decent hefeweizen and not bad at all for the hot Arizona summers.

Bought a sixer during a trip out to Sedona.

It pours a very slightly hazy yellow straw color, a bit disappointing in my opinion.

The smell was more promising than the color. You definitely get a good bit of wheat, citrus, and banana. Banana is the strongest part of the scent for me.

The scent is tied pretty closely with the taste so the flavors of banana and citrus come through.

Basically, nothing stellar here, but pretty refreshing especially when viewing the fantastic local scenery. If I wasn't wanting something local to enjoy while enjoying the red rocks I wouldn't have this again as there are much better hefeweizens available at great a price.

Oak Creek's Hefeweizen -- I've had this a few times and never been blown away but after a disastrous encounter with Old World Brewing's Irish Red I want something simple and pleasant to sip. I might even drink a Bud Heavy if I had one, but a nice Hefe could be good too. Is there a Franziskaner in my fridge? Whoops, no...

A: Very dense body with not much head.

S: Sweet with a hefty doze of amyl acetate -- not unlike a banana cream pie. There's something unsettlingly chemical about it, though.

T: The banana is heavy but it seems artificial. It's hard to suss out much beyond that, though I get a little clove and a hint of white pepper.

M: Pretty thick as compared to most of the more commercial American varieties but lacking that really pleasant crispness of the best European Hefes.

D: One is more than enough.

I spent the week in Sedona Arizona and tried the Oak Creek brews both at the brewery itself as well as at a lot of the other local places. I had this as part of a sampling and my wife had a full glass of it. It was one of the better beers of the bunch.

The color was a bright cloudy orange, very enticing. Smell was typical of a Hefeweizen and pretty strong at that. Flavor had a lot of wheat as well as oranges, cloves and yeast. Overall, this was a good beer and if you like wheats it is one you'll definitely enjoy.

The brew of this evening was a pale wheat beer made in West Sedona, Arizona. Oak Creek Brewing Co's Hefeweizen is a beautiful golden orange with a touch of haziness when poured from the bottle. The head is light and dissipates after only a few minutes, but what little lacing is left behind while sipping holds to the glass like a champ, sparkling and refusing to let go.

Before we get to taste, however, I should mention the odd scent. While not completely out of the ordinary (it is beer, after all), it is nowhere near as bitter-smelling nor does it reek of hops and barley. Being made with 50% wheat, it is much lighter and the fermented grains give way to an undercurrent of bananas and cloves. The weirdest thing about this for me is that on my first glass, I had absolutely no whiff of bananas, though I did recognize something grassy. Only on my second glass a few hours later did I manage to pull out the banana scent...it's a good thing you can't get high off of sniffing beer, as I had my nose stuck in the glass for a good 3 or 4 minutes.

Then, after a few sips and swishes over my tongue, I recognized the faintest hint of a sweet plantain at first contact, but found that it disappeared the second after it hit my taste buds. I tried a few more times to find the flavor, and the result was always the same. I suppose if I were insistent on drinking this beer for the banana taste, I would have to take a lot of quick sips and savor the half second of sweetness before trying again and again. Oh, and carbonation was spot on for the smoothness and airy richness; it really complimented the feeling.

My other favorite part about this particular beer, was that there was zero bitterness or sour aftertaste. Once it was down my throat, it was gone. No lingering around on my tongue waiting to be distracted by a bite of food or something salty, it was a quick wave of flavor and then disappeared, leaving my mouth ready for the next gulp.

Found ontap in Sedona amongst the breathtaking sights. Pours a brilliant dark yellow almost orange. Beautiful color for a hefeweizen. Hazy. Smells like wheat, banana, light citrus and spice. Tastes good with some clove, more banana and low hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a good level of carbonation . This is a very solid beer. Went well with a bbq brisket sandwhich.

Pours a slightly hazed pale orange color with a small and sticky white head. Straight banana in the nose, with an almost artificial additive aroma, cotton candy sweetness, lemon skin, smarties candy and marshmallow circus peanuts. Sweet and relatively dead to the tongue, some brighter carbonation would liven up this party a little. Easy enough to drink, not sure how many id want though.

No freshness date on bottle, poured into a pint glass.

A: Pale yellow/gold in color, initial thin white head that quickly dissipates to nothing with no lacing.

S: Strong wheaty citrus and some light hops. Spices and coriander abound. Tangy and sweet nose.

T: Vanilla, orange, coriander, spicy sourdough, clove and wheat. The flavor rushes through the mouth and leaves a tingly and malty aftertaste lingering for a long time. A minimal and pleasing hop balance to the characteristic hefewizen tastes.

M: Surprisingly smooth, this beer ends smoother than some fine German beers that have been brewed in this style for hundreds of years. Whether or not the high smoothness is good is up to the individual's opinion, and will not affect the score for this beer.

D: Very drinkable; crisp and refreshing without being thin.

Overall: A very good hefe. I strongly recommend you drink a bottle if you can get your hands on one. Would be nice paired with some light crackers and sharp cheddar cheese.

A: Pale straw color. Decent head.
S: Instantly hit with scent of banana. Banana of all all things. It was really quite strong.
T: Not as flat as the other Oak Creek brews. Had some substance to it but nothing remarkable.
M: Fair to middlin'. You could tell it was there but it didn't sing.
D: with the low (4.5%) alcohol, you have a few of these brews on a hot day. If you're in Sedona looking for a local brew, this is the Oak Creek one to try. This is better than the Amber or the Brown Ale but nothing outstanding.

Opened 12 ounce bottle, poured into pint glass.

Pours a nice low head atop a cloudy light orange brew that has a nice "jelly-fish" looking suspension.

Smell is of clove and banana, taste follows through. This is typical Hefe to me, nothing superb, but a solid brew. Bubbles are nice and refreshing and finish is pleasant and unobtuse.

POurs slightly hazy golden/straw color with thin white head. Surprising lack of haze and minimal head. Nose is disappointing, but has some faint banana, yeasty/bready aromas, and citrus. Palate is very fruity, nice malt, banana/clove as expected. Just ok.

On Tap at Frog and Firkin, Tucson. Appearance is a cloudy bright yellow/gold. Not much head, but the bartender didn't really leave room for any. The aroma is sweet and yeasty, with a nice banana aroma and some light clove-like spice, very classic. The taste is lightly sweet and bready, with fruity notes of banana, pear, and light lemon. It's lacking a bit of that phenolic, spicier funk that's present in some of the better German examples, but overall it tastes fine. The mouthfeel is light, with a good dose of carbonation.

The drinkablility is excellent. It's mild, but with enough complexity to keep it interesting. A very refreshing beer for a hot day especially, I recommend trying it...
