Pours a pale straw color with fine bubbles rising to the top of the pilsner glass forming a thick sea foam head. The nose is of sweet corn syrup and malt. The taste is like the smell with a light mouth feel and high drink ability. Not my cup of tea and quite tasteless. I am a imperial stout and Belgian style guy so lagers don't really impress me. Not bad but not good either. Easy drinking my watery

Looks quite nice in the Duvel chalice, though it's probably meant to be drunk from the can. Plenty of white head. Aroma is just a whiff of cereal, but at least not much cardboard.

Rather sharp. Not as metallic as some of these lo-fi brews. I don't think I mind it as much as others in the light sweepstakes. Even a little kiss of malt. Surprising touch of bitterness that actually tastes like hops. I don't think this is any worse than your average Mexican beer. That little hoppy zing brings this up a notch. Actually fairly drinkable.

From the 12 oz can.

I feel like I have to defend Super Dry a little. But I have to acknowledge that, for some reason, it is not good in the bottle. DO NOT buy Asahi Super Dry in a bottle, buy it in a can. Since it is a dry beer, it's taste and mouth feel are different and less sweet than usual, which makes it an ideal pairing with salty foods, especially East Asian cuisines. Served cold it is a great summer time thirst quencher as well.

A: Mid-yellowish in tone. Looks good while being poured. Lots of small bubbles.

S: Not much of a scent. Perhaps metallic or acid. Or maybe this is merely from expectation.

T: Cheap and metallic.

MF: Pretty good. Lots of carbonation and when served extra cold it is OK with yakiniku.

Overall: Only if there's nothing else available. Not recommended.

500 mL can; no freshness date apparent. Haven't had any Japanese lagers in a while...

The brew pours a bright golden-yellow colour, atop which is seated roughly a finger of puffy white head. It lasts for a minute or two before dissipating and leaving a soapy cap and collar on the surface. *Very* faint aroma, with only subtle hints of sweet grains and grass. Similar to domestic pale lagers but a bit cleaner.

Taste is of grainy malts and rice, with some light honey sweetness and a bit of grass. A little drying in the finish, but calling it 'super dry' is misleading at best, and a blatant lie at worst. No real hop presence. Finishes mostly clean, with only that twinge of dryness. Light-bodied with appropriately high carbonation, and it's as easy to throw back as any pale lager.

Not interesting in the least, but it's crisp, refreshing, and palatable enough (or at the very least, not especially unpalatable). Drier than Sapporo Premium, but in the grand scheme of things not much different from most mediocre rice lagers. Something to pass on if you're not a fan of the style, but it works well enough with sushi or salty snacks.

While on vacation I rolled into a sushi place for a light night snack and wanted to have another beer. This was literally the only one on the menu, so I ordered myself a giant can of the stuff.

Asahi dry has a very clear golden body with a ton of carbonation bubbles that lead to a huge white head. The head is huge initially anyway, but it fades away to almost nothing pretty quickly. It does manage to leave some lacing behind though.

The aroma has a plastic-like sweet smell to it, with a touch of sour malt to go along with it. Basically, it smells like most other adjunct lagers I have come across.

Asahi Super Dry may smell like your average adjunct lager, but I think it might actually taste worse. Slightly mettalic flavors are probably the highlight, as they are followed up by a slightly sour, sickeningly sweet malt flavor. It has that corn/rice/plastic thing going for it pretty well. IT does manage to finish fairly dry, which is a good thing for a beer with “super dry” in its name I suppose.

Light, fizzy, dry in the finish.

I doubt that I will be giving this one another try, definitely something I would advise others to avoid.

Super weak straw yellow, muddled clarity, super thin head which quickly disappears. Aroma was restrained and mild, like rice.

Certainly fits the 'dry' moniker, but so does bud 'dry'. Lacks hops. Lacks malt or any toasting. Just a palate cleansing beer, good for if you want to taste food, or wash up your mouth before a beer with taste. Crisp, dry, clean, even a little bit bitter and metallic.

Ok, so why is this so expensive?

A cloud of white foam rests on top of clear fluid that barely registers on the Lovibond scale. So this is what a rice beer is supposed to look like.

Smells of...well, not much at all. There are some German hops lying in wait, but they're lazy and not very assertive. But just the fact that they're there overpowers the rice almost completely. If you really work at it you can get a rice cake smell in there, but it's deep down.

The hops are still around when you take a pull off of this, but now you get more of the rice and an odd chemical off-flavor...kind of like dish detergent.

Dry? Yes, it is. Super dry? No, sake is super dry, this is just dry. It is crisp and refreshing when cold but I bought the 33.5 ounce can so it's a bit warmer now. Despite the flaws in this beer I still managed to finish all 33.5 ounces. I should seek help.

A-Pours a very light straw color with a finger of white head.

S-Smells of very light grain and cooked rice.

T-Metallic twang with a dry graininess and the slightest bit of hop presence.

M-Very thin and watery with quite a bit of carbonation.

D-it serves its purpose as a very light and refreshing beer, but if I wanted a beer this light, I'd probably just drink water.

Second beer tried during my layover in Hong Kong....whilst on my way to Singapore. Asahi Super Dry was much better...to me...than Tsingtao. The appearance is average. Nice clear golden color with good carbonation. The smell is ok....not over the top with grain. The taste is smooth, subtle grain, comes off the pallete clean and crisp...."dry". The mouthfeel of this beer is ok as well. Very easy to drink.

Clear yellow straw color. Fluffy head that dissipates quickly, but it does have some nice lively carbonation. Not much of an aroma, bit of straw and grain. Flavor is obviously light and mostly flavorless, but I am not picking up on much in the way of off flavors or bitterness. Maybe my palate is a bit compromised right now since I am broke and have been drinking mostly cheap beer (I am looking at you Goldmine) but as a cheap macro lager I really don't mind this at all. It's not going to set the world on fire, but I would drink it again as an affordable lawn mower beer.

I love my California ipas, and my muddy imperial stouts, but sometimes you just need something simple at the end of the day. My usual is a pabst with a shot of rye (or 2...:). However, I found that asahi along with a shot of rye is quite satisfying. I can't put a finger on it but I think it's that metallic taste people complain about. I guess I kind of like it. I'll probably come back to this when I feel like a plain old macro lager.

Super Dry looks OK while pouring, and there was quite a bit of head, although not very thick and it disappears very quickly. Its a gold-straw colour, plenty of carbonation. Zero lacing.

The smell is what one would expect from a rice lager - nothing pronounced, whispers of wheat and hops give this just enough to make me look forward to tasting it.

But, the taste falls short. Its quite bitter, a little metallic, and has very little to speak of in terms of wheat and rice natural flavours. Its not horrible, but it isn't good either.

Super Dry is a bit of a misnomer. Its not, well, super dry. Slightly oily in fact. The finish is dry, but you can still feel it on your tongue after. However, its still very refreshing and crisp.

Meh...

12 oz can into a pint glass...this is an interesting beer because what it purports to be is pretty much tasteless. It's crystal clean and there's nothing objectionable going on. It's basically intended to be beer-water that goes with anything. It's easy to swig these down, they're pretty smooth drinkers. Not a bad beer to have around. I'm probably biased sentimentally a little bit from drinking these out of vending machines on a trip to Japan when I was 17.

A - This beer pours a clear decent looking yellow color. It has a big 2-finger fizzy head on it, that leaves just a few specs of lace behind.

S - It smells sweet and slightly grainy. There is a bit of earthy notes and a touch if hop presence as well. Overall, the smell is not that impressive, but it's certainly not offensive like I assumed it would be.

T - The tastes is sweet grains and corn adjuncts. There is some slight hop character and some bitterness. The taste isn't that offensive, but its pretty sweet tasting.

M - This has a thin light body and pretty low carbonation. It goes down alright, and has some lingering bitterness.

O - The drinkability here isn't very good, but its not the worst either. I would choose this over some of the other macros available for sure. The taste isn't too offensive (Just don't let it warm) and it goes down fairly easy. I'd drink one again if some one offered me one, but I wouldn't spend money on it again.

Reviewing this again, don't think my older review was fair when this got an F.

Cloudy straw yellow appearance with bubbly head that slowly disappears. Smell consists of grain, grass, sweetness and a hint of malt.

Taste is similar to the smell, sweet and grainy with a slight hint of malt and citrus. Nothing to complicated and light, but it is also clean and refreshing. Light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Aftertaste has a lingering dry maltiness, probably the strongest part of the beer.

Overall, not the greatest beer, but it's simple and works. If your thirsty and it's hot out, grab a tall can of this.

Appearance: Clear pale yellow color. Had a thick (+1") head, but the foam looked like soap suds, not creamy. The head quickly fell to a ring which left little lacing.

Smell: Very slight sweet smell, a bit of grain.

Taste: A sourness mars this beer's taste. There is a bit of malt sweetness, but very little hops.

Mouthfeel: It does have a very dry finish, as per the name. Light bodied, with a lot of carbonation.

Drinkability: By itself (as I had this one), it is not impressive; just not enough here to interest me. But with food it should do fine.

Presentation: It was poured from a 1000ml can into a German Masskrug. The can offers very little info about the beer. There is only a short description. It has no freshness date or abv%.

Appearance: A bright golden colored beer with great clarity and some carbonation fills my big German mug. On top I got a tall bright white head of foam that quickly faded to a thin wispy covering and as I drank it only made some light spotty lacing.

Smell: In the nose there is very little to pick up. All I got was a light cracker like maltiness with a wisp of grassy hops.

Taste/Palate: The flavor is simple, light and refreshing. I get a mild dry biscuity/cracker like malt base with a light kiss of hop bitterness. The finish is dry and a tad astringent. It has a light body with light carbonation and a thin watery feel.

Notes: Simple plain and yes dry.

500ml can.

This beer pours a clear pale golden colour, with two fingers of loose sudsy white head, which leaves a small ring of lace around the glass as it recedes. It smells of faint grainy rice, and weedy hops. The taste is husky rice, a touch sweet, with a hint of breadiness, and a significant metallic tinge. The carbonation is fairly restrained, the body medium weight, and kind of clammy. It finishes relatively clean, and well, dry, but with a slight sweet rice pudding sweetness.

Easy enough to drink, better with spicy Asian food to hide the sweet character and metal. On its own - dry for the sake of dry just doesn`t compute with me.

135ml can from Japan.

Bright straw colour. Clear. Very light head that disappears quickly.

Not unpleasant aromas. Quite light. A bit of grassiness.

Very metallic on the palate. Hard to get past that to see anything else. Awful.

Thin in the mouth.

I thought the Japanese brewed version might have been better than the OS brewed versions I have tried but if anything it was worse.

Here we go with another adjuncty lager, I find myself wondering (and hoping a bit) if the fact that it's Japanese will make it a tad more interesting than the rest.

Appearance: Asahi Super Dry pours a clear, fairly light golden colour with a decently size white head, that doesn't last much more than 5 seconds and leaves no lace.

Smell: My hopes for something 'interesting' are fading fast. The nose is very light and consists of adjuncty grains, some stale hops and a slightly metallic aroma. Nothing overtly bad I guess, but very dull.

Taste: The flavour follows the smell pretty well, nothing really offensive, but dull. Again adjuncts, metallic elements and a hint of hops are noted. Super Dry, um no, though I will concede that there is a little dryness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Light and pretty highly carbonated. Pretty much par for the style I guess.

Drinkability: As I said, there is nothing offensive in the beer, so if it was ice cold, yeah I could drink it, though I doubt I will buy it again.

So it seems Asahi is nothing different, just another dull lager brewed for the un-beer-educated.

This is not nearly the worst beer I've had, but it's a thoroughly sub-par, thin, tasteless beers even by macro standards.

Slightly pale straw gold, on the paler side for macro lagers and closer in colour to, say, Coors than, say, Budweiser, it at least has a large white head that shrinks steadily but not quickly and leaves a little lace, so it looks reasonably good.

The aroma is reasonably strong, if very simple and typical for the style with mild grain mostly.

The taste is very mild grain, specifically a definite cooked rice character and indeed rather dry with little sweetness or bitterness. It has a rough character in the middle with water metallic quality and only a mild rice aftertaste. Bland up front, it gets a little flavour in the middle, but by the finish completely loses all character of any sort for an abrupt and utterly tasteless, watery finish before its mild aftertaste. Even for the style it is extremely watery, with a rough, unpleasant palate. It tastes like a basic "beer" quality, but only just barely.
