Always rate to style...

Clear, yellow, very little soapy head.

Not too much to report on. Rice, dry, peaty.

Wet, high carbonation, crisp, light, not too many flavors.

Uneventful. Great in Sake Bombs. Refreshing for a hot spring day. Recommended as a back up brew.

From 03/09/13 notes. Had this at Koi in Bryant Park, NYC. Probably the best sushi place I've ever been too, though their beer selection was as to be expected. Served in a stange type glass.

a - Pours a clear golden-yellow color with two inches of bright white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of corn, wheat, earthy notes, grass, a little musty, and a little skunky. Not a fan of this nose at all; little sweet and skunky.

t - Tastes of sweet corn, earthy notes, wheat, grains, bread, musty notes, and toasted malts. Significantly better than the nose due to no skunkiness, though still not very good.

m - Light, watery body and moderate carbonation. Overall pretty easy to drink beer and you could drink a few of them, though you probably wouldn't want to.

o - Overall I've had this with sushi once or twice, though not a fan of it. Nose is pretty bad and while easy to drink, don't think you'd want to drink a ton of these. I'd prefer something like a bud light to this beer.

I had this out of the bottle, enjoyed in a ball canning jar.

The color is dark golden with great clarity and thin cap of white which retains okay. The smell is sweet and slightly spiced with a grainy odor. The feel is good with spritzy carbonation and semi-dry middle to finish with light sweetness.

I like the flavor it is decent with some rice taste which adds a sweetness to the profile with light yeast tinges and mild spice aspect in the very dry finish - apropos. Overall a decent lager and I wouuld not hestitate to get it again, but not above average really, just good overall.

12 oz beer poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a clear pale golden with a 1.5 finger white head. Average visible carbonation. Head sticks around for a few minutes before dissipating.

S: Reminds me of most macro beers but with a bit more sweetness and I suppose that is rice coming through.

T: A slight variation and twist on the macro-tasting brew I was expecting. The rice gives it a sake sort of taste but on a much lighter booze scale.

M: Good carbonation and it does have a clean finish. Pretty smooth and easy drinking in regards to mouthfeel.

Overall not something I would seek out but am not disappointed. Has a unique flavor that I'll sit on the fence whether I like or not.

Note: This is the Japanese version Brewed in Japan, and very fresh (Brew date same month as drinking date, February). May vary if purchased outside of Japan.

A. Very clear, good initial head, sadly soon dissipates to nothing. Nothing interesting or exceptional.

S. Little smell, but slight lager note, not unpleasant.

T. Fine lager taste, nothing unpleasant, a bit of a dry bite to it.

M. A little sharp for my liking.

O. Easy drinking beer that is quite refreshing. This is served all over Japan, and whilst being very dull isn't at all offensive. Can't really go wrong with it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it if I wasn't living in Japan.

I should also mention that whilst being a big lager drinker (due to that be the only thing on offer beer wise in most places here), I'm not a big lager fan, so the numbers may reflect this.

If your in Japan you'll struggle not to try Asahi, if not, I wouldn't bother.

A-Pours a crystal clear yellow. Head is thin and creamy. Head is bleach white. Minimal lacing here.

S-Sweet and grainy with some cooked mixed rice. A tiny, tiny, tiny hint of grass. Watery but I have experienced worse.

T-A bit sweeter than the nose. Still has the cooked rice and grain. Minute hint of hops. Less watery than expected.

M-Super Dry this is not. But it is semi-dry. Light bodied but not all too watery. Zipping carbonation.

O/D-Better than some, worse than most. I think I like it more than Sapporo?

Got it from Italy. This bottle is made in Asahi Europe branch in Russia.

A-Very dead look in the glass,no bubbles tiny white head and darker pale golden color.

S-A bit usual for pale lagers,a bit sweeter malt.

T/M-Plus is that you could feel some bitter aftertaste, similar as IPA-a. Low carbonation, which is also plus, but main taste is no more then usual lager.

O-Nothing special,but easy to drink.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance – Pours a lighter golden color with a two finger white head. The head fades very fast to leave only a very light patchy lacing.

Smell – The aroma is malty with notes of rice. With these aromas is a very light citrus hop aroma.

Taste – The flavor begins with a light sweetness and a malty flavor. The flavors up front are a mixed with some notes of a mild rice flavor. As the taste advances some more sweetness of a more sweet light caramel and corn flavor comes to the tongue. These sweeter flavors then begin to die down again more toward the end, where some light hop flavors come in to the taste and with the drying out of the sweetness, they combined to leave a crisper taste on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is moderate in thickness and smoothness with a carbonation level that is a little above average. Rather appropriate for the style and makes it more refreshing.

Overall – A fairly standard lager style for the most part. Quite easy to drink, non-offensive, but nothing with tons of flavor.

From the twist off bottle into my pilsener:

A: super light yellow colored body, two finger super foamy white head stays around for a good two minutes. There is fast rising carbonation. Some light lacing is left.

S: corn and rice adjuncts up front.

T: sweet with the corn and rice adjuncts up front, some hops are very faint in the background.

M: extremely light and there isn't any harshness on the tongue.

O: I haven't had many Japanese Rice lagers, but I guess its on par for the style. For me, I probably won't seek it out again, but if this was all that served, I could probably tolerate it for that night.

As the name implies, this is a dry beer. The bee rpours a typical golden lager color. Very average and bland looking. The aroma is pretty much non-existent. The beer is not bad though, it could be a bit better, but is one of the better Japanese brews I've had. I've never been a fan of Japanese brew. Asahi is a worthy addition to the lager category and is relatively easy to find in the U.S.

A: Twist off!!!! Haven't had a twist off in forever. Also I was mad to see that this bad boy was brewed in Canada... I guess I don't understand. Otherwise an epic pour yields little head. Pours super light. Head stays around for a while though. Light light light golden color. Lots of bubbles.

S: Bleh, smells like stale yeast. Watery. That's about it.

T: Water at first with just a little bit of yeast and malt. Then some stale hops that are dry indeed. The goal was for light I see but it doesn't finish clean which for a light beer like this is maybe not so good.

M: Sits light. No flavor development. Bad linger.

This is quite bad. I the goal for light beer was not very well attained with the attempt at flavor here ending in a stale imprecise bitterness. Pass on this one.

A - copper-gold with a thin layer of soft, white head that has little retention

S - very faint nose; sweet and grainy

T - apples, fruity sweetness, grainy

M - light to medium bodied, well carbonated

This is way too sweet. It honestly tastes more like apple juice than beer. This is definitely a one and done. I'll avoid this in the future.

nah. id rather have water with my sushi i think. pours pisswater yellow with zero head. smells like metallic mass produced adjunct crap, but doesnt taste nearly as bad. actually some nice tang in the malt flavor and a sort of hoppy back end. mouthfeel is brutally light, but with enough carbonation to get the food moving. overall this is not a craft lager, but the rice malt makes it unique to a degree, and its lightness makes it crazy drinkable. have quite a few before you realize you dont like it, ya know?

12oz bottle served in a standard shaker pint.

pours a light golden/yellow tone with a tall, spritzy white head that recedes fairly quickly; not much lacing to speak of. nose is mild, with some grainy, rice aromas being it's centerpiece. not getting much in the way of hops.

flavor imparts a vague maltiness along with the grainy, rice-like notes evident in the nose. again, hops pretty much nonexistent. finish is clean. an underwhelming, inoffensive macro beer. not much better than your BMC. medium-light mouthfeel with average to above average carbonation.

overall, meh. don't have a big frame of reference for this style, but to me it falls somewhere in the macro continuum alongside coors and heineken. drinkable but really not doing a lot for me.

The beer pours a very pale yellow color with a foamy white head. the smell is almost non-existent, I just noticed grain and a slight grass smell. Not much taste at all either, just a hint of grain and lemon. Very light with lots of carbonation and it actually is pretty dry. I could see this being refreshing on a hot day, not much else going on though.

Asahi Dry... Part of my "Let's try random beers from around the world"

A-Typical adjunct pour. Crystal clear darkish yellow color with a half finger super short lived snow white head. Lacing is spotty.

S- Sweet grains, slight earthy aroma, I'm actually getting a touch of cooked rice. It's not offensive, just blah...

T- Cooked rice, slight cereal with a touch of boiled cabbage? land, typical adjunct. Again, not offensive just bland.

M- Clean, crisp, and slightly refreshing.

O- When you think of Japan you think of many things; Ninjas, Mt. Fuji, large doe eyed animated characters. No one ever thinks beer, I mean there are several Japanese breweries but they aren't known for their liquid libations (except maybe Sake)

12 fl oz/355 ml brown glass bottle with twist-off pressure cap acquired cheaply at Trader Joe's and served into a conical Guinness pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are extremely low given its reputation.

A: Pours a one and a half finger bottle of very slight cream, fair thickness, and okay retention. Colour is a clear yellow. No yeast particles are visible.

Sm: Stale barley, hints of stale cream, hints of rice, unclean malts. A mild strength aroma.

T: Unclean malts, dirty barley, and stale cream. Simple, bland, and boring. No layering. Neither complex nor subtle. In your face, tired, and meh. No alcohol or yeast comes through.

Mf: Smooth and wet. No real cream mouthfeel-wise. Overcarbonated. Too thick for its lack of flavour. A bit dry on the finish.

Dr: Drinkable but bland and boring. Of severely limited quality. Might pair well with spicy food. Would make a decent table beer (that's as politely as I can describe this beer). It's priced okay. I would never get this again.

I'm not familar with Japanese Rice Lagers, but I have had more than enough American Macro lagers (that often use rice in their mash), so I'm going to compare this beer with those.

Overall, this beer is better than one might expect. Pours a clear gold with a quickly disappearing head. Almost no aroma. The flavor is crisp with some nice grainyness. Just a little bit of hops. Not too sweet.

Mouthfeel is medium. Not sure if it has "satin smoothness" as the label promises, but it isn't watery at least.

Overall, not bad at all. I could see this being a good pairing with sweet or spicy foods.

Is it worth paying micro-prices for though? No.

Asahi is now number one in Japanese market share. I lived (stationed) in Japan and I can assure you that Japanese drink beeru endlessly. Kirin was number one when I lived there.

Asahi pours from 220z bottle into beer clean glass with light golden color with foamy head that disappeared in less than 30 sec with no lacing present.
The smell was of cooked veggies and the taste was minimal....not much taste at all...I tought my throat and taste buds had numbed from the fresh ginger but my companions reflected watry taste as well. I see where the "dry" came from as it finished quickly. Its easy to finish quickly when the taste is water. Good carbonation.
Will order again but only at a Japanese restaurant and would not buy for home. I am surprised given the innovative abilities of the Japanese and the unquenchable thirst of the Japanese that Asahi has not refined this formula better. Why it has become tops in Market share is beyond me. Maybe the price point is low.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of March 2012. Despite being a famous 'Japanese' beer, this is brewed under licence by Shepherd Neame.

Poured into a straight pint glass. A pale straw hue with perfect clarity and good carbonation. Forms a large head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding. Aroma is very faint; a hint of light malt and rice with some sweetness. A whisper of stewed hops and a mild stale note in the background.

Tastes of light malt with a dry finish. Some rice/grain notes and mild stewed hops. A stale flavour in the background. Mouthfeel is light and watery, with prickly carbonation. An unpleasant harsh aftertaste - not nice.

Bah - another boring lager. All the consistency and flavour of water, along with some unpleasant undertones. Worthless; avoid it!

Reviewed from session notes.

A. Clear medium strength yellow color with a fading fizzy foam collar for a head, no lacing.

S. Vaguely grassy smell and thats it.

T. Initial gentle herbal bite resolves into a corn / rice minimal sweetness, which surprises me since the beer is called "super dry" It is, however, within splash damage distance of being super dry, so the target wasn't missed by a mile or anything like that. The finish does deliver the 'super dry' promised on the label.

M. Aggressive carbonation and lighter body, the crisp dry finish does deliver.

A- I couldn't see as it was in a bottle but I assume it's a standard light beer
S- nothing exciting. Smells like a bud or miller
T- A standard light beer. Consistent through out
M- High carbonation and refreshing

This has a look and feel of an American light beer. I'd only drink it at an Asian restaurant.
