Visited for breakfast on 05/11/08.
The exterior of this place is a little off-putting, what with the dog paintings on the building's exterior and the sketchy neighborhood. Once you walk inside, though, you're surrounded by nicely executed red brick walls and dark wood. Custom made neon signs for their brand adorn the walls, as do old-timey photographs.
The bar is large and is of course covered with video poker machines. Of course there are flatscreen TVs showing sports.
There is a dining area off to one side, but my friend and I sat in the bar area.
I had only one of their beers, and it was a doozy: Black Lab Stout. Such superlative execution of a familar style, it made me reevaluate how I feel about it! My friend had their IPA which he was impressed with as well.
The food wasn't quite up to the same standards, as some of it was overcooked and lacked strong flavor. Still, it wasn't like we were choking it down.
Prices seemed reasonable and the wait staff was attentive and accurate. Heck, even the bathroom was nice and clean.
I took us a million years of wrong turns to find this place, but I'm glad we did. This or one of the other Big Dog locations will be on my "must visit" list next time I'm out in Vegas.
I miss Holy Cow, though.

arriving to vegas a bit too early for hotel check in, decided to stop here with the family after doing some outlet shopping. this location is about 10 miles away from the strip. driving there takes you through some interesting parts of what i call the 'real' vegas.
with the dog theme any dog lover would enjoy this place. the food was pretty good. if from california and aware of bj's, the beer at big dog's is a step below. i found the holy cow original a little to light with not much bite. a better choice is the dirty dog ipa. it was much better than the holy cow. but, overall both brews seems very light to my taste. my little boy had the root beer which was actually very good and came out in a freezing cold skinny mug.
service was great. good thing is the restaurant portion is separated from the gaming/bar area and the restaurant portion.
this is a place you want to try at least once but, for i doubt i'll go back unless it's with some friends we know who are real dog lovers and would enjoy the dog theme establishment.

I don't know why it took me so long to finally give Big Dog beers a try. Perhaps the fact that none of the brewpubs are in the vicinity of my house. But thank god I finally seeked it out.
Big Dogs has hands-down the best IPA in Las Vegas. Very fresh, citrusy, well hopped beer of theirs made me think I was in San Diego for a short while. A sample of their other beers made me further appreciate their great job brewing. Although I'm not a fan of amber ales, their Red Hydrant Ale was solid. I really appreciated their Stout with many great flavors of toffee and chocolate. MMM. Their pale ale was solid as well. A well balanced beer for the not-so-hophead.
I went to this Big Dogs, as well as the other on Sahara and Torrey Pines, just in this last week, and I can tell you that both locations make a consistantly good beer. Though all the beer is brewed at the Draft House on Rancho, the quality is still there.
The place itself is nice enough, but like previously stated much nicer inside than on the outside. The bartender saw that we were big fans of the beer and he gave us several free pints, even as we weren't gambling, so for that, I have to give a five for service. Thanks for the great experience, I'll be back in for another pint very soon!

Good all the way around. Adults or with the kids.
Don't let the outside fool you.(you know, don't judge a book by it's cover) Very nice inside, bar area and seperate eating area.
Well prepared food. Staff is usually alot of fun and always willing to help with food and beer selections. The walleye is a must, and so is the soup. Don't forget to check out the daily specials.
Holy Cow Pale ale and Red Hydrant ale stand out, stout pretty good also.Forget the wheat beer though. The rest are pretty good.
