First brewed by Harvest Moon in 1997, this beer is a multiple award-winning dark ale brewed in the Burton, England style owing to the similarity of water chemistry in Belt compared to this classic porter producing area in England. Plenty of body without a sharp bite, this ale is brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate and black malts to create a creamy, smooth, roasted, slightly chocolate tasting ale with a touch of hops in the finish. This ale can be enjoyed in every season and is best when served cool, not cold. And why the name? While drinking this new brew one evening back in 1997, the local hog farmer showed up to collect our spent mash and we that what could be better for fattening pigs?

Love the name!
A: Poured this dark brown brew into my Duvel Snifter that produced a 1 fingered khaki head that slowly dissipated. Some lacing exhibited.
S: Bisquity malts, semi sweet chocolate, molasses, subtle dark fruits.
T: Biscuit malts, semi sweet chocolate, earthy undertones, and subtle coffee hints. Flavors seemed a bit dull and underwhelming.
M: Light for the variety, crisp, and dry.
O: I enjoyed this beer, felt earthy and raw, just wish some of those flavors were more prominent.

Based on a review form 2013. Had on draft.
A: pours dark brown body with small, tan head with ok retention and lacing
S: no much of a smell to it; a little roasty
T: a roasted taste, but seems watered down; not sure of it's the beer or the bar that did it
M: a little thin; carbonation actually seems ok, so prob not the bar that watered it down
D: ok mouthfeel, but the roastiness of the beer could be a little more robust; fairly decent

Real time review. Decent feel. Not too sweet. Not bad. Not really good. Nonoffensive but not a lot of flavor either. Not to be harsh but this is just a middle of the road porter. Had worse. Had much better.

Solid Solid like a rock. For some reason reminds me of bully porter by boulevard. One of the better options up montucky way for a porter so maybe my score is biased because big fish small pond like hot buttered soul on the radio

Had bottled at Copper Horse in the Bozeman, MT airport
Appearance - Poured into a pint glass produced an auburn brown brew with a khaki colored, quarter finger width head with poor retention, resulting in mostly barren surface.
Smell - Mild aroma, hitting on fair caramel notes, toffee and distant chocolate. Faint earthy hop notes as well.
Taste - Follows the.nose. Mild, but flavorful. Toffee and caramel with lesser chocolate undertone. Mild earth hop character. Ghostly fig? Finishes with a touch of roasted malt; balanced and bittersweet with the aforementioned flavors.
Mouthfeel - Medium body with fair carbonation. Starts slick, then finishes fairly dry.
Overall - A solid English-style porter. Its no Samuel Smiths, but few are. I wouldn't say no to another one.
