This is a lovely beer from one of my favorite Alberta breweries. It pours with a lovely but short lived tan head that fades to a ring of foam. It is a nice copper colour and has a lovely nose of bread, hops and honey. The taste is lovely - malt forward, with toffee and faint fruit notes. It is an interesting mix that hides the alcohol well. An incredibly solid beer that I like to pick up when I want a real treat.

Bomber poured into a tulip glass. A light golden bronze color with a moderate amount of beige head. I am getting various elements on the nose, all expected and of moderate intensity: Honeyed breakfast cereal, a fruitiness like apples, grassy and slightly spicy Noble hops, slightly toasted grain. Malt-forward and with a propensity to alternate between sweet and bitter. Sort of an identity crisis. Palate begins mildly toasted, with a notable dry nutty note and moderate Noble hops providing a tasteful bitterness, although for me things evolve toward a more prominent sweetness, recalling more Honey Nut Cheerios cereal, butterscotch pudding, perhaps a hint of cotton candy, and then the bitterness reestablishes itself in the finish, which is quite crisp and dry, perhaps a tad grainy. Certainly keeps me interested. Moderate body and carbonation. This one's struggle to establish a clear-cut taste identity actually added to the experience for me, although purists might prefer the goat to take a stand.

Appearance - Pours a clear copper/amber with two fingers of foamy white head.

Smell - Bready, biscuity malts, Noble/Saaz hops, hint of fruity esters.

Taste - Strong malt flavour profile with toasted biscuity and bready malts. Low hop content to add a touch of bitterness. Subtle amount of pepperiness.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall - A nice malty maibock from Alley Kat. Would be nice to have just a touch more hop profile in it, but otherwise a nice toast to the spring season finally upon us in Alberta.

A- Pours a clear coppery color with an average looking white foamy head, which doesn't retain overly well, but does settle to a solid layer over the brew. Carbonation also looks to be average for the style...not too overly done, but not mild either. There is minimal lacing.

S- Malt dominates, which is fine with me, but also contains some spicy floral notes on the finish. In the middle, there is a distinct yeast quality that reminds me slightly of raw bread dough...just a bit of a tang. I suppose there is a bit of a hop bitterness on the finish as well, but it's unassuming.

T- There is a decent blend of sweet malt upfront, with a biscuit like middle and finishing with a very noticeable spiced hop bitterness. It's actually quite nice, as the after effects on the palate resume back to a malty taste that shortly lingers before the next taste.

M- This is most definitely a thin bodied beer, but remains smooth and creamy in flavor and carbonation, but I'd like to have it slightly more zingy on my palate, as I feel this style almost needs it.

O- I'm not loving this one, but I would certainly purchase this again upon Alley Kats' next release without regret. I think it's flavorful enough, perhaps a little to lite bodied and/or not zingy enough. I would still recommend anyone to try this and think Alley Kat did a decent job on this one.

Pale amber/orange colour, minimal off white head, no lacing to speak of. Smell is malty, some caramel, light european hop profile, light sweet notes, bread like qualities. Taste is malty and toffee like, lightly sweet, mild bitterness, bread like grains, light alcohol thats quite understated. Full body, light carbonation, syrupy at points, solid feel overall. Fairly solid and easy drinking, ABV not noticeable in taste but believe me its there, quite drinkable, nice stuff here. Thanks to Boney for sending this.

A large bottle of an Alley Kat speacialty that I picked up at Kensington Wine while getting my CAMRA Calgary tickets. $6.59.
Brown with bronze orange hilights, off white head that faded to a thin ring, left a few whisps of lace. A good mix of aromas, floral/herbal hops with bready/caramel malts. Taste starts with the malt sweetness, toffee and caramel, and then is balanced by a flavor filled hoppiness, grassy and floral. A nice blend.
Alcohol is there, but does not distract from the flavors. Good level of carbonation gives a medium body, smooth mouthfeel, clean and dry finish. Easy to drink, nice flavors, well done.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a schooner. Best before date of Oct 17/11 in black ink on the neck of the bottle. A little tricky to see, but it's there. Good job having BB's!

A - clear amber with a small one finger head that disappears after a minute or two. Slight bubbly lacing left behind. Obvious carbonation rising within the glass.

S - nice sweet malt on the nose and not much else

T - slightly sweet, but not overly so. Lots and lots of bready malt throughout, but never too much; this does a lovely job of living on the edge.

M - slight heaviness too it, but not thick. Lots of carbonation to balance it out.

D - very drinkable. The slight sweetness doesn't go too far and leaves it reasonably satisfying.

Overall a solid beer from the fine folks at Alley Kat. Nice version of the style.

This is my kind of lager.

A: Bronze with an off-white head, thin ring of retention leaves a touch of lace.

S: Pleasant floral, slightly herbal hopping with hints of grass and mineral. Somewhat bready with light caramel & toffee.

T: Bready malt has a light caramel & toffee sweetness, but a solid bitterness for balance. The floral hopping is a little herbal, with hints of steelie grass. Alcohol is subtle. Very well done.

M: Well attenuated moderate body is smooth with a crisp finish.

D/O: A really easy drinker for its strength. It fires on all cylinders, but just isn't super charged. ;D
