12 oz twist-off bottle poured into a Leinie's imperial pint.
5.0% ABV, May0613 on neck.

A - Canoe Paddler pours a pale straw yellow color with bright clarity and a frothy white head that's sustained by the glass' laser etching. Thin fingers of lace are left on the glass as this sips lower the volume.

S - With more character than an average kölsch, Canoe Paddler starts off with a crisp and refreshing nose of European hops; a spritz of lemon citrus with herbal with spice notes that compliment the pinch of rye nicely. Clean pale malt provides a good base while remaining largely out of the way.

T - A touch of lemon dances on the tongue with the carbonation while pale malt lingers in the background, softly providing a simple base for delicate herbal hop notes and rye spice.

M - This is exactly what I look for in a kölsch; crisp, though not overly carbonated, light-bodied, refreshing, and generally clean with a nice trail of dryness and faint hop bitterness. The feel ties the beer together wonderfully.

O - It seems a little early in the season for a beer such as this, but if it sticks around long enough, Canoe Paddler would make an excellent warm weather beer with it's delicate but well-balanced hop flavors and crisp, clean finish. Canoe Paddler will undoubtedly find a permanent place in my summer cooler.

Date tasted: May 26, 2013... Glassware: Ayinger willibecker... Occasion: two rooms painted in one day--that's progress... Appearance: straw yellow, bubbly effervescent body with an uneven creamy head... Aroma: punchy metallic hops--creamy rye? not really digging it--it's got a Lord Chesterfield funk to it... Palate: smooth,, light and refreshing--appropriate to its genre and probably weds well with an afternoon on a lawn tractor... Taste: oof--a rather nondescript flavor of fizziness slaps the tongue and throat; this almost tastes like every Leinenkugel's I've had minus whatever additive was on the label (apparently canoe paddles have no flavor themselves)... Overall: a refreshing rinser--not a lot of words to work on this one, and not much wonder to ponder as I watch the glass drain. It's partly a style thing, partly the brew's lack...

Pours to a permanent thin white head and moderate lacing. Color is pale gold. Aroma is pale grains and white grapes. Flavor is much the same with a noble hop flavor and bitterness to balance the scant sweetness that is present in this dry beer. Mouthfeel is light. Overall, not a bad brew, and yes, it passses my Kolsch test (vinous notes detected).

A= Pours a totally translucent yellow color with a light bubbly white head on top that rises and falls fast to a thin layer on top of the glass.

S= The smell is light and "beery" It smells like a more concentrated Linnies red to me. Not too much in the way of rye or hops...

T= The taste almost confirms my suspicion on the smell. A nice light drinkable beer for sure. Super light and airy. I could drink a ton of these and the rye character is minimal. I get a little wheat maybe? I'm not sure if there is wheat actually in this beer but it tastes a little wheaty.

M= light and airy.

O= This is a super drinkable beer that's for sure. It actually may be "smoother" than the regular linies red I think. Worth checking out on a summer day and possibly to repeat if you are looking for an easy drinker.

A: Blonde with a fast-receding white head. Looks a bit like champagne.

S: Sweet apple(ish) and floral scent.

T: A sweet apple like "white wine/champagne" taste with other fruit notes and a touch of rye.

M: Light bodied and highly carbonated that is crisp and refreshing.

O: Very drinkable. Especially on a hot day when you don't want anything too heavy.
