May0211 stamped on bottle.
Poured into my nonic pint glass a crystal clear bright golden color with a loose, wavy & dense bone white settled head of 1/2". Moderate visible uprising carbonation with tiny-sized bubbles. Looks very elegant and glowing. Nice wide splotchy rings/walls of lace all the way down.
Mineral lager yeast with saltine cracker-like scents. Smells very crisp and fresh with a stoney, citrus framework.
Edgy flavors of burlap and earthy damp hops. Very dry and prickly with quickly diminishing notes of lemon rind and salty rocks.
Mouthfeel is creamy and emcompassing for such a dry and crisp lager. The ultra fine carbonation bathes the tongue in layers of playful bubbles that caress more than attack. Such a great feel. The finish is bitter/chalky with quickly ending flavor.
Drinkability is very good for a utility beer for sure.
This lager feels utterly fantastic and looks very elegant. The flavors are good, not great. I'd drink this without hesitation in a warm weather setting where I wouldn't want to 'think' about my beer experience. Although it is pretty decent and unintrusive, it still is a bit edgy and without any depth.

Review from notes
Pours into pint glass a hazy golden color with little presence of head to speak of but decent carbonation.
Smells of biscuit like barley malts with a slight scent of hops in the mix as well.
Taste/Mouthfeel a hoppy front end that mellows to a lager finish with a slight hop after taste.
Overall, I was intrigued by how this beer seemed to be a nice cross between a lager & a pale ale. A good session beer in a crowded field if Leinenkugels were priced to compete w/Molson & Labatt instead of Sierra Nevada I'd nab it more often. Decent stuff

This is the old Northwoods Lager, which has a mystique similar to that of Coors in Smoky & The Bandit. It's hard to find, so it must be worth seeking out.
But, hell, I'd be liar if I said mystiques didn't sometime make beer taste better. Likewise nice packaging--and this one is packaged exquisitely.
I haven't had this beer since 1999, back when I was 16 and I thought this was some kind of bizarre amber brew, possibly akin to Newscastle. Now it smells and tastes like a nicely brewed adjunct, but it's exceptionally dark for the style.
The aroma and flavor are both quite similar to the new-old Schlitz, only the yeast profile here is a little unpleasantly chewy. Still, crisp cereal malt, a just a wee tiny bit of nice adjunct corn. This is backed by a kiss of the hops, and really everything super tasty until the yeast messes things up (though it only messes it up a little bit).

Clear gold, little head.
Grainy smell, mostly.
Taste is mainly grains too, a hint of something more going on, a bready note, some grassy hops.
Mouthfeel medium, carbonation medium.
Eh. Nothing remarkable here. Better than some Leine's offerings, but most of them are in the mediocre department so I've stopped keeping track of which is less mediocre than the others (barring the big eddy series - how 'bout brewing less of this and more of that?).
