The colour is black with a brown-red rim. The finger thick head is airy and beige. No lacing.
The smell got notes of heavily roasted malt. Some sour notes hints of coffee and a mild clean bitterness.
The taste is quite mild, roasted notes of coffee and pumpernickel, some notes of dough. Clean flavpurs overall. Hints of cream, bitter hints and bread in the aftertaste. Spices in the finish.
Medium carbonation, small smooth bubbles. Very smooth liquid.
As expected a nice beer: Very roasted and a bit sweet.

Tried this beer at the Approach Tavern, East London, on 23 April 2005. It was served on draught and tasted by half-pint.
Appearance: it pours a dark-reddish brown colour, with vaguely noticeable beer head and very limited carbonation.
Smell: comes light, toasty and fruity maltiness and mild to faint nose of "port wine"...
Taste: very nice compared to the appearance and smell--it feels warm in mouth, with light-chocolatey to lightly-roasted malty and nutty flavour, finished with pleasant, medium-dry hoppyness...
Mouthfeel: the overall body is, as suggested by its name, "mild"; but it has a medium structure against such low alcohol strength (only 3.5%abv).
Overall: quite thirst-quenching, and in my view the dryish aftertaste is the key character which helps strike a balance for this classic drink.

Cask@The Mawson Arms, Chiswick, London. A really pleasant mild. Typical smooth Fullers mouthfeel. Lightly sweet to start, quite nutty, with subtle hints of caramel, and a touch roasty. Quite a light, but rounded mouthfeel. Nothing overly complex or anything, a solid pint.
