A. A slow, steady pour yielded a finger and a half of bubbly head. Body is a dark translucent reddish brown, like a dark mahogany. A curtain of bubbles can be seen slowly climbing their way to the top when this beer is held up to the light.

S. The aroma is sweet, like dark fruits soaked in pancake syrup, the fake stuff, not the maple. You know what I mean. I also get whiffs of malt and booze. Candy sugar also present, as well as a slight nuttiness when it warms up a bit.

T. Whoa. Sweet, syrupy malt up front. Then it whips into what tastes like the liquid interpretation of a nut and dark fruit salad that has been covered in sugar and caramelized.

M. Medium to heavy bodied. Coats the mouth well, doesn't dry. Kind of relies on the carbonation to keep her going though.

O. Way. Too. Sweet. If it was thicker you could pour it on your pancakes and have an alcoholic syrup.

Long neck 500ml bottle with a simple black and gray label. On this label is a red rectangle with "Primator" in shiny gray letters. Below the name are 3 gold medals and a fake red wax stamp. The back label contains all the mandatory US info and a bottle number of some kind. The large neck label has the brewery's crest and everything you want to know about the beer.

I poured this high proof Doppelbock into my Samuel Smith Imperial pint glass. Out of the bottle came a beer that looked like a solid black ink beer. When I got a good look at it in the glass, I saw that it was more of a dark mahogany brown with a dark ruby center. Either color was fine by me. On top was a creamy 3/4 to 1 inch light tan colored head of foam. This head of foam had great retention! It dropped down to a 1/4 of an inch and stayed with the beer until the last drop of beer was gone. The head of foam was the icing on the cake. It's a sight to see!

For some stupid reason, I found this aroma to be sleeping. I know the aroma could have been maltier, but it decided to keep the malt down to a minimum. This was a slightly malty aroma with some sweet caramel, a splash of chocolate, a hint of black cherry, and then this sleeping aroma finished up with a faint aroma of hops and alcohol. I thought the alcohol would come out more in this 10.5% beer. Of course that's what I said about the malts. The aroma was fine, but it had more potential to be better than this.

After my first sip of this Doppelbock, I was surprised to find this beer very sweet. Not sugar sweet or candy sweet. It was just a shade under that. The taste was sweet with toasted caramel malts, those caramel square candies, a pinch of brown sugar, a drop of molasses, a subtle hint of raisins and plums, and then it finishes up with a mild taste of sweet alcohol. Even the alcohol couldn't get away from being sweet. I like my Doppelbocks maltier than sweet, but going down the sweet road isn't all that bad. The first few sips is where it shined, but then the sweetness came swooping in and took care of that.

This almost too sugary Doppelbock was medium bodied. It was near the full bodied border, but I think it was the sugar from going over the line. As for the aftertaste, that was sweet too. Who would have guessed that? It was sugar sweet with brown sugar, molasses, toasted caramel malts, regular caramel, and a little sweet alcohol to round off this beer. Around the half glass mark is where you'll feel the 10.5% ABV start to kick in.

It was nice for this beer to walk down the sweet road. Just for once I wanted this beer to divert off the sweet road and go down malt alley. This beer had tunnel vision. It was sticking to the sweet road. It was a nicely priced high ABV beer. In case you don't like the sweet taste, you can always use it as a cheap sleep aid.

A nice finger of tan head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is a blunted roasted malt and mild chocolate. A bit weird.
The taste is rich and sweet and sweeter. Wow.
The texture is sticky with low carbonation and medium body.
The super sweet taste was tough to handle and the aroma was interesting.

This pours a dark, dark brown—almost black—with tight foam which rapidly dissipates.
It has a distinct malty-sweet aroma with some caramel notes. Mouthfeel is immediately boozy—you can definitely tell the ABV from first sip on. It tastes sweet and malty with notes of light cocoa and a caramel sweetness. Oddly there is a whisper of tin on the finish that is unwanted and distracts from the beer as a whole. Otherwise it warms well and makes a solid sipper.
(And, as an aside, mixes well with colas.)

500ml bottle poured into a pilsner glass.

A - Small tan head from a vigorous pour has some big bubbles. Dark brown in color with good clarity. No lacing left on the glass and the head completely dissipated.

S - Rich with some sweetness. Complex caramel aroma approaching raisin-like quality. Alcohol sits in the background.

T - Rich caramel all over the flavor which is a little on the sweet side. Slight chocolate tone with a red fruit/raisin quality. Clean finish along with considerable alcohol warmth.

M - Full bodied, sweet, light carbonation.

O - Very smooth and full malty flavor. A little on the boozy side, better doppelbocks have a bit more drinkability. A little too sweet and overly fruity malt.

Told Matt the beer guy that I was looking for a good bang for the buck beer thet was not too hoppy. I have been getting into doppel bocks. He denoted raisons and alcohol, and I think he was right on. Like many doppelbocks I had to aggitate on the pour to get any significant head. Minimal lacing, and just a thin layer of white around the perimeter of surface. A dark coffee color with brilliant red when held up to light. Nice carbination.
The nose is fantastic and really reminds me of the quads and crand cru beers I love. The taste is very dark fruit and raisons, however the alcohol is not hidden as much as some of the higher end beers. My wife mentioned the syrup flavor, but this beer gets better as it warms up- and like many of the dark fruit, malty beers, they are great for sipping and flavors change as the temperature does. At 10.5%, this beer can really hit you...

Enjoyed this bottle out of a large snifter glass.

A: Pours dark brownish/black hue with a thin off-white head that ends in a wispy lace leaving a partial trail down the glass.

S: Sweet licorice and malt aroma.

T: Similar to the smell the flavor consists of sweet licorice and malt which finishes on the sweet side..

M: Heavy body and medium carbonation. Had a syrupy quality too it.

O: I’m not a huge fan of double-bocks – always seem a little too sweet for me.

A: Pours dark reddish brown with a half inch tan head that quickly fades leaving light lacing
S: molasses, alcohol, cherry
T: notes of brown sugar, raisins, and cola over a ton of malt
M: medium body, not overly syrupy, with a lasting smooth sweet finish
O: At $3.29 for a 500mL, I consider it a good value for a Czech double bock. I would purchase again if I were in the mood for a sweet, dark, malty beer.

Primator Double Bock (Double 24 Specialni Tmave) has a thin, beige head and a dark brown (ruby under light) appearance with some bubbles and little lacing. The aroma is of alcohol right up front and some dark-roasted, sweet barley malts. Taste is of dark cherries, alcohol, dark-roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and molasses. Mouthfeel is medium, and Primator Double Bock finishes semi-dry, syrupy, and super-sweet, yet not disgustingly so. Overall, this is an excellent beer. Drink with trepidation!

Pours a warm reddish brown, clear throughout with a tan head atop it. Retention isn't great but who expected it to be on a 10.5% ABV beer? A thin film is all that remains after a minute or so.
Smell is malt, peat, smoke and caramel. Well balanced.
Taste is malt, smoke, whiskey with an odd, sugary sweetness. It isn't a bad sweet note, just unexpected. The balance is pretty good but the the alcohol does tend to stand above the rest somewhat.
Full bodied with a light effervescence up front. Warming, especially in the throat, this drinks easily at the lips but says you should slow down at the swallow. A strong drink for certain, but a good one.

Pours a cloudy brownish with an off-white head. Nose is bread, maltose, and cardboard. A little bit nutty and toasted, light alcohol notes, and some sugar. The flavor is sweet sugar, maltose, bread, and caramel. As with the aroma, some toasted malt character, a bit of cardboard/paper, and a bit of alcohol.

Poured from a 500mL. capped bottle (no date) into a pint glass.

A strong pour yields a 1/2-finger tan-colored head that quickly dissipates in seconds to a minute dusting and thin foam ring. The body is a deep dark brown with traces of amber crimson when held to light. Very little lacing can be seen at any point during consumption.

The nose can be summed up as dark, roasted malts and booze. The malt gives notes of caramel, burnt nuts, and roasted coffee beans. The booze gives notes of cough syrup and soy sauce. Together, these components create a very rich, complex, and slightly off-putting nose.

Like the nose, each sip starts dark and sweet with notes of caramel, molasses, and cough syrup alcohol. As the beer is swallowed, dark fruit and brown sugar flavors come out. An overlying sweetness is present during all stages of the tasting.

Full bodied with moderate carbonation, this beer is the epitome of the word "sipper." The body is thick and coating with a sticky syrup-like quality. The carbonation is only barely noticeable. Even just a little more carbonation would help this beer's drinkability considerably.

Strong, malty aroma has an overtone of caramel and hints of horehound and apple. It pours a barely translucent dark coppery brown with a fairly thick, if not too persistent, light tan head. Mouth-filling malty flavor has a strong caramel overtone and is rather sweet but not cloying. I get hints of apple, hops, and - is that butterscotch? The subtle bitterness offsets the sweetness somewhat. Full-bodied texture has a fairly strong and persistent fizz that leaves a tingly, sweet, subtly hoppy-bitter finish. If you like bocks, I heartily recommend this one.

So I thought this was a legitimate German doppelbock when I bought it, and only just found out --halfway through --that it’s basically Czech jet fuel. Pours dark mahogany with a large but fizzy brown head. Aroma is rubbery with lots of sweet boozy bready notes. Flavor is extremely sweet, homemade caramel, rich toffee, and alcohol. Lacks the roundness and drinkability of the real deal German stuff. Like a malt liquor doppelbock.
