On-tap served in an Erdinger weizen glass at The Penalty Spot, Bangkok.

A:
It comes with a hazy body and a pale yellow color. The white head crowns thickly before subsiding with decent retention and leaving some patch of lacing.

S:
Ester, banana, citrus, clove spice and bready malt.

T:
Subtle and rather monotonous ester, only zesty citrus appears forefront along with decent clove spice and ghost-like hop bitterness. Malt is also there with a bready touch.

M:
Medium-bodied, smooth mouthfeel from fine carbonation, finish is dry.

O:
Fresh and refreshing without doubt with good thirst quenching ability, high drinkable beer.

Poured from bottle into a smaple glass.

Appearance: Cloudy yellowish color with a decent size white head.

Smell: Wheat, maybe some hints of banana, not really a strong smell.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Medium to light bodied and smooth. Taste was average, what you would expect from a mid range hefenweizen.

Overall: Not a bad beer, but nothing spectacular. I guess I would have it again, it is easy to drink.

Bottle: standard 500mL brown bottle, standard German wheat beer macro label.

Appearance: pours hazy light straw, per the hefeweizen standard. Great thick and foamy head.

Aroma: the typical wheat beer aromas are here, but also backed by a bit of alcohol. Not super sophisticated, but good enough.

Taste: not massively flavoursome, but again has those great wheat beer flavours of banana and cloves. The slightly lighter flavour creates easier drinkability, so that's fine by me.

Aftertaste: the flavours become almost dusty, like a heavy malt profile. Quite nice, actually, and something I haven't come across in a wheat beer previously.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied with light-to-moderate carbonation. This is one of the lighter and easier-drinking wheat beers I have had - without delving into the unsavoury world of the Krystalweizen.

Overall: a good quality wheat beer. Not as sophisticated as some others, but a great intermediate and sessional hefeweizen.

Pale, hazy golden with a durable white head and lots of lacing.

The aroma features very bready malt and light yeast with just a touch of fruitiness. The flavor is like the aroma but a bit more yeasty.

M: medium+ carbonation; thin body but not quite watery.

(O: a very pleasant and easy to drink Weissbier that was better than expected.

Served in a bottle at Tonic (Hilton Beijing) in Beijing, China

A: Pours a cloudy medium golden yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a three finger tall dense frothy off-white head that has great retention properties, eventually reducing (about half way through the drinking of the beer) to a thin layer covering the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of banana, clove, and wheat.

T: There are moderate flavors of banana and clove along with some lighter notes of wheat and just a hint of bubble gum. There is a very slight but noticeable presence of yeast flavor.

M: Slightly heavier than light bodied with heavy amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: Refreshing, easy to drink and quite enjoyable. This beer is a very nice summer beer and is quite refreshing in the warm summer. The flavor of this beer is more complex than the smell would indicate.

A - Mildly hazy pale straw. The head fades quickly for a wheat beer.

S - Sweet wheat, grains, honey. Mild fruit sweet aromas.

T - Light sweetness, honey and malt. Grainy biscuit, chalky bread. Faint candied orange rind hints.

M - Light bodied, decent carbonation, highly drinkable.

O - A good go-to.

We pour a clean butterscotch colored beer. It holds a two finger head of creamy, bubbly whitish foam. This retains nicely, leaving sticky sheets of lacing around the glass. There is a thick haze to the beer, but no sediment, while carbonation appears active. The nose is bright with wet wheat, bittering orange peel, and hugely metallic yeast. There is a soft creaminess on the front, with relatively strong white sugar and cidery sweetness. With warmth the grain becomes a bit more metallic, to match the yeast, and becomes borderline adjuncty. Our first impression is that the flavoring is quite soft, and those sweeter Hefe flavors are hard to find. As we sip, wheat and water hit first. These act to subdue a deep spice that is palpable far in the distance. There is clove and black pepper, with a gritty metallic zing of yeast and bready malts. The peak shows a further thinning of the malts, leaving room for again, a flash of that spice, and a curious lemon-lime sweetness that pulls us to the finish. Here there are more metallics, more yeast, and that funny souring citric character. The aftertaste breathes of creaminess, sour orangey citrus, light spice, lactic sourness, wheat, and water. The body is medium, and the carbonation is medium, but a great foam builds in the mouth with each sip and swirl. The mouth is left prickly and alive, and slightly dried with a fine astringency. There is decent slurp, smack, and pop with each sip. The abv is appropriate, and the beer goes down quickly.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about the beer was the inviting look, and how light it was on the drinker. Comparatively within the style, both the nose and the flavoring were bland. The nose was not titillating, so when it came time to drink we were not surprised to find a watery, underwhelming taste hit the lips. This is an easy drinking and refreshing beer, but little else.

Pours medium yellow with a big foamy head.

Banana, clove, sweet grain, yeast in the nose.

Nice smooth sweet grain, some yeast, some fruit notes. Mild bitterness to balance the beer. Finishes with grainy note.

Lighter bodied, full carbonation.

Nice soft version of the style. Very drinkable and refreshing.

From what I can see on here, this beer is a little underrated. I love the colour, a beautiful light straw with an ultra-white head that dissipates a little too quickly. The smell is quite good, with fruity highlights that really stick out. Banana, apricot and citrus all packed in there. The taste is almost a little sour, with very little trace of the fruit in the smell but loaded grains. Very refreshing, light-bodied, and super drinkable. Overall, it's a great beer.

This beer is very drinkable, but didn't have any flavors that really jumped out at me. Not a bad hefe, but there are a few others I would rather have on a nice summer day. It has a wheaty taste with a decent amount of carbonation, just not as much flavor as I would like.

nice change of pace here in bosnia. pours less cloudy that i expected, darker golden color with a lacey head pure white. smells like yeast and fruit, lemons and orange zest. flavor is hearty for a wheat brew, with less of the popping fruity characteristics i am accustomed to in this style. yeast is a little bit floral, delicate and nice.plenty of body too, there is a lemon wedge on the rim, but i dont need it. feel is heavier for a hefe, filling a little, but the carbonation is appropriate and the finish is nice and slow, a little sweet. this was a great beer to have with sushi, and probably other fish dishes as well.

It's a wheat beer, it's cloudy, light golden in color, with a traditional huge white head which dissipates very slowly.

Smells of a hint of lemon citrus, a hint of banana, yeast, and a nice wheat bread.

Taste is mellow, light bready sweetness, with a bit of a lemony finish.

Very smooth and easy to drink, light and airy, without being fizzy.

It's not a Wiehanstephaner, but it's a fine wheat beer from the old world, and the price is right.

Erdinger Weissbier is pale orange in colour. When poured in a glass it has a nice white head. While the smell of malt and hops is present, you can also get a small hint of orange and apple. It's a little strong for my liking but very clean with fine acidity. Definitely easy to have another!

A - Pours a murky yellow blonde with a glorious three finger soapy head and sticky lacing.

S - Wheat, dried banana chips, yeast and salt.

T - Clean and sweet, banana, wheat, grain and spice.

M - Moderate to high carbonation, body a little light as I like a full bodied hefe myself.

O - Perfectly good German hefe but why would you get this when Weihenstephan is so widely available and cheap.

Erdinger Hefe-Weizen has a very thick, fluffy, slightly off-white head and a cloudy, yellow-golden appearance. Some lacing is present. The aroma is not strong, but one detects white wheat bread. Taste is mild, with white wheat bread, sweetness, some lemon, low level coriander, and a touch of hop bitterness. The spiciness certainly increases after swishing the bottom 20% of the bottle. Mouthfeel is light to medium and soft, and Erdinger Hefe-Weizen finishes pleasant and very easy drinking. It’s quite good.

Crisp - almost flavorless, in a good way. What light beers aspire to be, but fail miserably. Went well with very sharp chedder, went down smooth, left a good taste in your mouth, no bitterness. Not too much aroma, but enough to tell you that you were drinking a well crafted beer. I highly recommend that this is a beer you try this summer if you can find it.

look: 2.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3

Appearance: The body is a somewhat cloudy blonde colour with ample carbonation. Two fingers of head were produced, but it didn't manage to lace or retain very well.

Smell: A lot of grain smell upfront with a banana backing and maybe the barest hint of cloves. Warming really helped it out as the banana came forward a bit more.

Taste: Starts with the banana sweetness with a bit of malt at which point dry wheat takes to the field, as the to wage war over a small hint of cloves. It is an ending which manages to come across as decent.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation in the body is very well done and helps out the entire beer. The aftertaste is also nice and balanced but I wouldn't call it epic. Longer lasting head and removing the odd touch of dryness would be nice.

Drinkability: Medium bodied, not exactly for summer drinking but not quite flavourful enough for the winter. It's a bit dryer then I would like it to be, and the carbonation is so powerful, it leave me a little gassy.

Final Thoughts: An above average Hefe, that is for sure. I dunno, it just seems like the banana and the clouding just isn't there. It comes across as a bit too pilsner like. It's still good though, but sadly Erdinger just can't seem to compare to Weihenstephaner. Give it a shot though.

A: Semi-cloudy peachy-yellow colour with a puffy foam head. Great retention with evident lacing down the glass.

S: Grassy wheat, cloves, faint banana (as it warms), some orange, and underlying lemon. Detecting a slightly strange minty floral aroma that's quite faint but present.

T: Grainy wheat, fainter fruit elements of primarily banana and a bit of lemon, cloves, and a slight honey finish. Decent and balanced but the taste profile seems a bit muted.

M: Medium bodied with a high carbonation level. Quite dry with a chalky texture. Giving off a spritzer-like vibe as a result of the carbonation and dryness.

D: Decent but likely not something I'd revisit with tastier Hefeweizen products available on the shelf.

Best before 8/2012.

Pours a murky honey orange with a 2 inch foamy off-white head that settles to a foamy cap on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is mainly of grain and wheat and maybe some slight yeast aromas. Taste is of the grain and wheat with some white grape juice flavors. I am not really getting any of the traditional banana, bubblegum, or spice flavors from this beer. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer all around and not much of a hefeweizen in my opinion.

Pours a cloudy golden-wheat with a white bubbly head. The head attenuates very quickly. The bouquet is mild Belgian yeast and banana. The mouthfeel is crisp with some molecular stabbing. Very pilsneresque, but with a very light mild Belgian flavor. Not great, but drinkable.

Pint glass. Spirals of yeast suspension swirl in a rather clear golden beer. The fluffy head that came from the pour has fallen quickly. 3.5

Lemon rind and muted spices in the nose. Not very active aroma-wise. Breath of hops, wheat malts, and citrus. 3.0

Attenuated flavor. Some clove and coriander, but hardly any fruity esters. Lemony twang that doesn't stay in the finish. The finish actually comes with unexpected bitterness. Herbal hops are more noticeable than any bready malt flavors. Disappointing. 2.5

Watery body. Too thin. Bad feel. Over-carbonated. Ouch. 2.0

I found a German that I definitely dislike. Aside from that, it really is a poor example of the style. They shouldn't tout on the back label that they're 'the World's No. 1 Hefe-Weizen' because they are far from it. 2.5

Bottle of 500 ml, at home.
Head of three fingers, soapy, but with very good retention. Pale honey coloured, hazy.
Aroma is fruity with some banana traces and quite malty.
Taste is sweet with some sour aftertaste, sort of citrus.
Average thickness on the body and very carbonated.
