The color is dark brown with a light brown head.
There is not much of an aroma, but of some banana and malt.
The taste does not fit the color. It's light like regular hefeweizens (wheat beers). It has a crystal malt taste. I would compare it almost to lighter fruitier red/brown ale.
The mouthfeel is light and the finish is easy. It's extremely drinkable and really a treat. I would have this many times again.

On-tap served in an Erdinger weizen glass at She Bar, Bangkok.
Dark brown color with thick frothy tan head that stands with great retention, it collapses to everlasting foamy laver covering atop. There is plenty of intricate lacing clinging here and there. Suggestion by a nuance of dark fruits in the aroma yet also reminds of citrus, banana, some spice and hint of roasted malt.
Load of citrus and dark fruits contact the palate sensation. Bready malt and hint of roasted malt participate with some spiciness. The body is medium with smooth mouthfeel and dry finish. Pretty good overall.

On tap at the brewery tasting room.
A: Pours a nice dark brown color with a fluffy off-white head. Nice retention which develops nice lacing down the glass.
S: Very nice aroma with carmel notes mixed with banana and clove.
T: Very nice carmel notes with banana and wheat flavor. Hop bittering is low and well balanced with the malt. Carbonation is high which is typical for the style.
M: Mouthfeel is creamy.
O: I was very surprised with this one. I have not been a strong fan of their standard hefeweizen and didn't expect much. The sample at the brewery definitely would rate up their with the best of this style that i have tasted.

A - A medium brown base with little light passing through. A big foamy head atop that stays around a while.
S - Dark tangy wheat aromas with brown sugar, molasses and other brown sweetness scents.
T - Chewy caramelized wheat sugars and dark grains. Molasses and dried dates hitting the palate. A nice tangy yeast through the sip and a bitter mineral-like finish.
M - Chewy medium bodied beer. Thirst quenching up front with a lightly drying finish.
O - Well rounded dunkel from a classy brewery.

Half-pint on tap at the Euston Tap.
A: Very dark body - hazy vermillion - under a finger of soft, fine tan head. Good retention, nice fine lacing. Attractive.
S: Chocolate-covered bananas, with some floral esters. Simple and enjoyable.
T: Clove, banana, chocolate, and bittersweet floral notes. Long, lightly alcoholic finish. Pretty tasty, but a little underwhelming for the style.
M: Medium body, prickly carbonation.
O: Tasty enough beer, but not quite memorable; way too boozy for 5.6%. There are better Dunkelweizens out there.
Cheers!

Poured into it's own glass. A big fine bubbly caramel head on a very dark brown. Very good head retention, it lasts to the end. Streamers of foamy lacing.
Mils in the smell department. Roasted malt smells. Some spiciness. Tastes of chocolate up front. Fruity in the middle with a mildly prickly finish. No hops to speak of. Very pleasant and well melded flavours.
The mouthfeel is very smooth and creamy with lots of fine carbonation. Very drinkable. I coould drink these all night.

A Dark red not see thru. Decent head, but it faded quickly, lasted most of the glass, but was gone by the end. Nice color very inviting. 4
S Not much smell, clean yeasty, estery aroma. 3
T Roasted malt but slight. Yeast flavor typical of wheats. Nothing standout, but clean and flaw free. 3.5
M Thin in body, carbonation seems light. 3.5
D Very good drinkable beer, easy to have one after the other. 4

Love this in bottles, but at Pub Italia in Ottawa, its on tap.
A wonderfully dark but drinkable German Beer. I often recommend this to friends that do not normally drink dark beer, but wants something refreshing.
Smell - Overripe Banana;s with a slight chocolate overtone. No bitterness in the smell.
Taste - Smoothness is the key here. Overripe banana, figs chocolate (milk chocolate). Such a nice smooth beer. So easy to drink and so refreshing.
of all the dark wheat beers, this is the probably my favorite "every-day" beer. It never disappoints. On tap, its even better.

Beer served on draft at Churchkey in D.C. Beer is brown, hazy with a gigantic head. Head falls away in a few minutes leaving a lot of lacing on the glass. Carbonation is moderate and steady, large bubbles. A really attractive beer.
Aroma is much weaker than I expected. I can't really smell any malt to speak of, there is some hints of esters (banana) like you'd expect, just a lot more subtle than I thought it should be.
Medium body smooth beer. Both this beer and Erdinger hefeweiss have very similar flavors. And that flavor is bland. I know that these beers are suppose to have refreshing and simple flavors, all I'm saying is that I've had better beers in these categories. All of the flavors you'd expect are there, just muted, some banana / clove-like flavor, some malt (since this is the dunkel) just not a lot of it. Perfectly fine tasting beer, just really subtle.
Mouthfeel is good, medium bodied, smooth, no aftertaste. Drinkability is high, as it should be. A pretty good beer.

Ordered a a beautiful half-liter at Sunswick 35/35 for $7. This dark brown beer with its light tan head looked oh-so promising, but fell flat once I started sipping. Sure, the carbonation was fine, but it only tasted like a creamed wheat or oatmeal cereal with a hint of cocoa powder.

Presentation: On tap at the Bier Stube in Rock Island Illinois in a 28oz boot...hell's yah!
Appearance: Dark mahogany beer with a large tan FLUFFY cap with good retention
Smell: dark caramel malt, touches of dark fruit, and just a HINT of spice...this is understated and simple, but quite nice.
Taste: Less wheat/spice characteristics than I expected; there are rich caramel malt and sweet, vibrant dark fruit undertones...again, simple, but nice.
Mouthfeel: Light-medium bodied, smooth as silk
Drinkability: High
Conclusion: Nice, clean, simple, tasty, smooth, full of dark fruit; not quite what I was expecting, but super tasty nonetheless.

Wow, I expected a lot more from this beer.
Pours a dark, moderately clear amber. An inch or two of tan head. Smells like ... really, not much of anything. A faint whiff of roasted malt, I suppose.
Taste is fairly bland. Some roasted malt, an overcarbonated seltzer feel, no rich flavors, hues, or anything special. I'd avoid entirely.
Not a good first impression of this brewery.

I could drink this until the cows come home. My local pub finally had this on tap so it had to be tried.
It pours a dark chestnut brown with a creamy, ivory head which sat nicely and laced the glass all the way down the drink.
The taste is like a slightly soured chocolate bar - a Hershy bar perhaps.
In the mouth, it feels maybe just a little too thin for my full bodied tastes, but just a tad.

Had on tap at Max's the other day. Really don't see many dunkel weizens on tap in the states it seems, so this was a treat.
The beer pours a very dark brown color with good head retention and lacing. The beer is somewhat exotic smelling on the nose, with some sweet malt and underlying banana and spice. It smells pretty good. On the palate this beer is just delicious. It's not heavy at all and has moderate sweetness, but with that tell tale drying finish I get in good German hefeweizen. There are dark fruits in this beer, and frankly this beer is just delicious. The beer has a smooth mouthfeel and is soft on the palate. Drinkability is fantastic. I could drink this all day.
Just a delightful beer. Even as I review it today it's making me want another glass right now. Just delicious stuff.

On tap at The Red in Santa Cruz. Pours an extremely dark brown, nearly opaque, with an off-white head of 1 finger.
Aroma is half banana phenol, half sweet, caky malt.
Taste is less malty than the aroma, almost indistinguishable from a regular hefeweizen. Not much clove character.
Palate is, as expected in a wheat beer, exquisitely smooth and drinkable.

A nice dark reddish-brown with a decent tan head. Aroma is malty but a touch of sour too. It is very smooth going down but does leave a bitter charcoal taste, pretty nice. Not overly carbonated. Quite drinkable but not quite as impressive as I expected on tap. Definitely worth a try but not one I would hang my hat on.

Had this on tap at the Esplanade Biermarket in Toronto. Pours an impressive dark brown with a bubbly off-white head that laces well. Aroma of raisins, cloves, some malt and a hint of cranberry (I would have liked some banana in there). Taste was a sweet chocolately front, with bananas and chocolate malt pouring in, and a raisiny malt finish a feeling I just a ate a banana. Hop character was low, as the style would dictate. Mouthfeel was effervescent yet very smooth and creamy. This is a great Dunkel Weizen.

I had this on tap at Rechthaler-Hof in Munich (across from the train station).
A: Chestnut, slight haze, lots of off-white head, very little retention/lace.
S: Bready malt with a little fruit.
T: Very fruity, banana bread, slightly sweet, a little caramel, fairly malty.
M: Moderate body is creamy, carbonation is light to moderate.
D: Quite good.

Not my favorite style, but a solid beer. Has the flavors of a very light Brown Ale or a Viena Lager with the body of a Bavarian Wheat. Got to get over the muddy brown color, but the head, retention, and lacing makes up for it. Faint roasty aromas, mildly cocoa, and lightly estery and tart. Flavors are mildly bready, roasty, cocoa, and fruity. The darker grains tend to mask what I like most in a Wheat. The darker grains don't display enough character to make this beer interesting. It's caught in the middle. There is more malty sweetness than is detected in the first sip. The body is quite large and full. Finishes mildly sweet and slightly dry. No alcohol or hops detected; just for balance. It's a clean, well balanced beer--maybe too balanced. It's ok, you just got to be in the mood for it.

A few yeas ago, I was fortunate to do some business traveling in Europe and used Munich as the base for the trips. The hotel I stayed at, had Erdinger beer on tap at all of their bars, so I really acquired a taste for this fine product. In a recent trip to Denver, I stopped in at Falling Rock, and saw this beer on draft. I had to try it. If only the reality met the memory. I was mildly disappointed. The beer poured a dark brown with a nice head for a Hefe, and a minimal lace. No real nose to speak of, light citrus aroma, no cloves or malt. The taste was primarily a light malt flavor, and gain, none of the citrus or spice I expected from this beer. As with any Hefeweizen (dunkel or otherwise) it had a nice light mouth feel and was very drinkable. My memories of this beer led me to expect much more. I know the lines had just been cleaned, and the folks at Falling Rock seem to really care for their beer, so I must assume that time had blinded me on the quality of this brew.

A very drinkable Dunkel Weizen with chocolate flavors and a nice head retention throughout the beer. Low carbonation for a Weizen and was sampled at Erdinger's Brewery. This beer has a roasty smell and is delicious, made well and has a great malt character.

The bartender took his time and poured this one slowly with perfect head. Quite dark, almost mahogany colored and off white mountain of suds. Smell of caramel and a little sweet. Very smooth on the palate withy a buttery creamy texture. Taste is a litle spicy, slightly bitter and nicely rounded out.

Labeled as "Erdinger Hefeweizen dunkel" in Germany -- tasted in Berlin.
Served in 0.5l branded weissbier glass. Presented as a dark, ruddy brown beer with some near black depth. Think, creamy foam lace with lost of stamina.
Slightly astringent, tight carbonation feel which induces a creamy mouthfeel and smoothness on the palate. Light malts, touch of chocolate, caramel and molasses. Hints of banana. Mineral body and flavour, with a thin citrus hop flavour that matches the malts and balances things out quite nicely.
A most delicious dunkel weissbier. A highly recommended brew ... from this expert weissbier brewer.

Murky brown color with a two finger off-white head with medium retention.
Light aroma of earthy hops and sligthly toasted malts and wheat.
Similarly, taste of toasted malt and wheat with earthy hops and notes of caramel and condiments.
Light body with medium carbonation and tiny bubbles. Zesty feeling.
A light body dunkel with good drinkability, though I found the other Erdingers more interesting.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle into a Weihenstephaner hefe glass.
Color is dark chocolate brown with a good amount of ruby hues. Head is about two fingers thick with a good retention. Not a huge head for a dunkel. Decent lacing that does not stick much. Bubbly. Almost opaque.
Aroma is very thin. Strength is moderate to low. Wheat for sure. Typical hefe yeasts. Some roasted malts. Coffee. Caramel. Sweetness.
Taste is full of wheat. Some huge malts as well. Yeast is a lot. Coffee and caramel. A bit of roastiness. Finish is dry and semi sweet.
Mouth feel is full bodied. Good thickness and well rounded. High carbonation. Easy to drink and very pleasant. No astringency.
