I had this beer on-tap at WABL Belgianfest 2013 in a snifter taster glass.

Appearance: medium golden hue; body is clear with no haze. Minimal effervescence is present and there is no head on this pour. Not particularly interesting-looking.

Smell: aroma is very light in intensity; sweet malt with a hint of toastiness and a hint of Belgian yeast. Not terribly complex but decent.

Taste: sweet malt without a lot of complexity. Flavor is a little hot in alcohol, and has a light spiciness. Decent, but not particularly nuanced.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation; creaminess is alright but not big and satisfying like a tripel's should be.

Overall: a workaday tripel, but nothing outstanding. There's just not a lot of complexity here, subtle or otherwise, which I like in the style.

On tap at St Augustines in Vancouver.

A: 1/8" slight cream coloured head over cloudy amber liquid.

S: Banana and yeast.

T: Yeast, banana, cloves and malt.

M: Thick viscosity and a low level of carbonation.

O: I had high hopes for this beer, but didn't find it to be very drinkable.

A: Poured a medium gold color with good carbonation presenting a nice white cap and some bubbles

S: Immediate clove, some pepper and banana

T: Upfront clove and pepper, with a hint at green apple, a little booze sting

M: Medium to big body, no carbonation issues, light booze sting with fading flavors that leaves a clove and peppery finish

O: A drinkable Tripel that I would probably drink again

Had this on tap at Collins Pub as part of the BB night for Beer Week.

A - A nice looking tripel. Deep gold and clear, with fine white foam that lingered. Fine lacing as well.

S - Mild aromas of spice and yeast. Some bit of fruitiness, but fairly basic. Thought perhaps my sniffer was off that day, but...

T - Tasted as expected from the smell. The right flavor components were there, and overall it tasted decent, but it needed more of everything - outside of sweetness which seemed about right. More spice, more yeast, more malt, more fruit - more complexity.

M - Highly carbonated with very fine bubbles, almost champagne-like. Dry and crisp finish.

D - Still, it was a warm day and I was sitting outside so it did refresh. Not my favorite BB beer, but I still liked it.

Served in Tulip glass. Poured a slightly cloudy deep gold (almost light brown) color with the expected fluffy white head that had very good retention and heavy lacing.

The aroma was very subdued, the expected yeast and fruit flavors were rather hidden hidden under the solid malt foundation. The flavor was nearly identical to the aroma, everything was subdued and understated. Which is notable for this brewery, which has a tendency to go more towards the over-the-top end of the spectrum.

The body and drinkability were both typical for the style. Overall, a good first attempt at stepping out of their comfort zone. It's refreshing to see BB do a brew where the answer isn't "more hops". Hopefully they can play around with more different yeasts now and bring more flavor profiles on line. This beer is worth a shot if you see it, if only to compare with how it changes in future batches.
