Ordered from LetsPour and poured into a Hoppin' Frog snifter glass.

Appearance - A refreshing citrus appearance. A short half-finger head that fades rapidly. Weak web-like lacing to the glass. The beer is an opaque squash orange color with average carbonation. Lightly pink.

Smell - Extremely floral with a bit of an elderberry smell to it. A sweet, near pink-bubblegum smell. Very pleasant.

Taste - Definitely a unique beer. I have not had something quite like this before. Floral notes violently grab at the tongue and pull it further into its bed. Sweet honey-like nectar with hints of fresh hops. Extremely bready with a sweeter, banana-bread like backing. Delicious and unique.

Mouthfeel and Drinkability - Medium bodied and extraordinarily unique. The taste of, what I presume is Jasmine flowers, adds a whole new level of depth to the taste of this beer. Extremely complex.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy copper color with some residual white foam. Floral smell, light grassy smell too. Toffee malt taste, subtle hop taste, but really tucked below a tasty malt. Really tasty. At the end, a bitter hop resides. Very good.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy golden amber color with a nice 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some good spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, orange, floral, pine, bread, caramel, flower petals, light honey, and herbal spiciness. Pretty nice and well balance aromas with decent strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange, caramel, honey, pine, floral, bread, flower petals, and herbal spiciness. Good amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pine, herbal, floral, bread, caramel, and honey on the finish for a good bit. Good balance of bitterness with malt sweetness; with some good hop flavor complexity. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly creamy and fairly crisp mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice IPA. The jasmine flowers blend well with the flavor profile; and there is some nice hop flavor balance. Quite enjoyable and very drinkable.

A - Golden, clear, 0.5" head that quickly dissipates

S - Pronounced jasmine nose

T - Very floral, not too bitter... this would pair well with Vietnamese food

M - Light, not too carbonated

O - This is a beer that has a time and place... likely best to be paired with food... enjoyable and different

Avatar Jasmine IPA
Elysian Brewing Company
Style: American IPA
ABV: 6.30 %

LOOK: Copper/orange colored brew with a large soapy head that provides plenty of webbed lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Citrus, orange blossom tea, floral, herbal hops and caramel all make for a pretty pleasing nose.

TASTE: Orange citrus, herbal tea flavor imparted by the jasmine. There is a resinous, piney hop character and provides a solid bitterness. Mild caramel, brown sugar, honey like notes from the malt. Finishes slightly bitter.

FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated, crisp and easily drinkable.

OVERALL: A very solid IPA from Elysian brewing, who is notorious for making well hopped and unique ales. The Avatar makes good use of the hops and the jasmine, a pretty delicious beer.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

Pours out a beautiful hazy gold with carbonation bubbles peeking through the haze. The head is tiny though. The aroma is intensely floral with a bit of citrus hops to round it out. The taste is also very heavy on the floral jasmine, making this a very unique beer experience. There's just the smallest amount of citrus hops and light, sweet malts. I think I'd prefer a bit of a more herbal hop presence to temper some of the sweetness, but it's still unique and well-done. The mouthfeel is brisk, and the drinkability is good. Overall, it's a very interesting beer experience. I'm not sure if I'd go out and get it again, but it's a great change-up from the day to day.

poured the majority of the 22 oz bottle into a large Duvel glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a one finger head that has reduced to a thin layer. It is an orange amber color with slightly hazy clarity. Also, there are lots of signs of carbonation coming up through the glass. Super lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: There beer has an herbal and floral aroma. Sweetness and breadiness also. Hops are hidden well or maybe the herbal essence of the beer dominates the hops aroma.

Taste: Jasmine and floral taste in the mouth, pine from the hops, bready and caramel malts, but a lot of bitterness in the end.

Mouthfeel: creamy smooth, medium bodied, medium carbonation, refreshing, and easy to drink.

Overall: I like the twist Elysian put on the American IPA. The herbal essence was very nice for a change and i could see myself going to check out this brewery next time I am in Seattle. As for now, I will have to hunt this beer down in NY again.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass.

An extra frothy, two-finger tips length of head.

Heavy nose full of blossoming jasmine and purple perilla in the aroma.

Dirty blonde with an amber hue in color.

Mouthfeel was almost slick and syrupy. Less carbonation than normal for an IPA it seemed, but I think that helped bring out it's aroma more.

Taste was a combination of jasmine with a hoppy resin bite. ..Slightly sweet. Toasted, light bread in malt character.

Truly a sublime, and not for everday consumption, IPA that must be carefully paired when considering cuisine.

22oz bottle split with my lovely lady Lauren who also co reviewed this with me. Poured into a NB globe.

A: The beer poured a copper orange that resembled unpasturized honey, large chunks of white sediment. Nice fluffy head with good retention, that left a small veil of spotty lacing.

S: Super floral jasmine forward, yeasty malt on the back end, without being too bready. Really reminds me of jasmine tea and makes Lauren want mushu pork and fortune cookies.

T: HOLY jasmine!! Bright jasmine front, with nice citrus, piney hop finish. Jasmine is the star.

M: Carbonation is spot-on and carries this medium-light bodied beer. Finishes fresh and dry on the palette, with lingering jasmine presence. (Feels like jasmine flowers shoot out of your nose after swallowing.)

O: Overall, this is a unique take on the style, quite enjoyable. I would certainly have again if the opportunity presented itself. (Lauren says, XOXO double heart.)

A: Slightly hazy golden apricot with a thick creamy head that evaporates to a thin cap of tiny bubbles.

S: Sweet floral Jasmine up front, mildly malty with a hint of hops ends with a little spicy pepper. Mild skunkiness as the beer warmed.

T: Floral jasmine flavour is definitely front, with a little bitter mild hop flavour. Sweet and mildly malty too, which balances out the hop nicely. It's clear and crisp and reminiscent of jasmine tea. It's refreshing while providing that jasmine flavour.

M: Smooth, crisp, refreshing, and medium bodied, it's a lovely creamy feeling too, the mouth feel is complex and intriguing - really excellent presentation.

O: This is a fantastic floral forward brew, that will compliment sushi and delicate fish nicely. It's a unique flavour that provides a refreshing break from the regular IPA that's citrus or pine-y. Definitely worth the buy - looking forward to trying it again.

Pours a slightly hazy honey golden color. Half inch white head dissipates to a lacing and retains there.

Smells of mild floral hops and noticeable jasmine.

Taste follows, some mild floral hops and a bit of citrus and mild malt all wrapped up in a coating of jasmine, flowery at first and bitter like tea at the end.

Medium to full body with soft expansive carbonation.

The jasmine is the centerpiece of this beer. It's not overwhelming but it is there. As such, you pretty much have to like jasmine to like this. If you do, you're in for a real treat. If you don't, avoid at all costs. For me, a casual jasmine green tea fan, it's good and enjoyable, something I am glad to have tried and might even have again, but it's a niche beer.

Pours a hazy orange-ish to yellow color with an off white head. In the aroma, floral and a small orange citrus. In the taste, pine like hops to mellow citrus, and a nice floral note. A small hop bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry pine and small floral hop in the aftertaste. Nice floral presence with citrus notes in a sweeter ale.

Enjoyed the Avatar Jasmine IPA on tap at Elysian Fields out of a standard pint glass. The pour shows off a good looking bronze color with a small white head of tiny bubbles.

This beer has a big floral bouquet with sweet jasmine at the forefront and a bit of piney hops.

The jasmine flavor also leads the way on the palate hitting hard initially but mellowing nicely with a little malt carrying through to the balanced finish. The hops blend in very well and work nicely with the jasmine.

This is a very drinkable IPA that goes down smooth. An easy beer to like... if you are a fan of IPA and if you can handle the strong floral notes.

this is a fabulous beer. never had anything like it. pours a hazy pale orange color with a thick fluffy white head. smells like fresh jasmie flowers, reminds me of spring in bloom, its a really profound smell, takes me places id rather be. flowers blend well with the hops which are on the fruity end of the spectrum. it has a light flavor, not perfumy at all, just really fresh and alive. there is a slight bitter element in the finish which reminds you its an ipa. its less hoppy than maybe it could be, but i love the way the jasmine is featured here, great idea, great execution. feel is nice, on the lighter side with plenty of bubbles. the aftertaste is nice too. not sure what kind of food i would do with this one, but i am going to buy it again and figure it out. for about 5 bucks a bomber, you cannot go wrong here. sensational

Served at Coles in Buffalo on tap. The waitress recommeneded it as something different that if I enjoy IPA's I might like. It is really refreshing to have a server actually know about beer.
Appearance-dark yellow, medium to heavy carbonation, some lacing.
Smell-heavy floral notes coming through, Jasmine.
Taste-heavy floral hop notes, the Jasmine really bites you, my wife tried it and stated the same but I enjoy a beer like that and she does not. So different from your usual IPA that I had to love it. I kept getting more and more with every taste.
Mouthfeel-hoppy as hell, very floral.
Overall-I really enjoyed this but probably would not drink more than two in a sitting, I could see that this beer would definatly not appeal to everyone.I will seek this out again, love the floral notes.

If your're looking for traditional IPA grab their Immortal IPA, this is the hybrid herbal flower Jasmine infused IPA where the floral aspects overshadow the hops, I did get some mild citrus and herbal bitterness from hops but the Jasmine smacked me around, a semi clouded golden copper orange hue with an off white khaki tinted head forming thick. Carbonation levels were dead on nothing cloying in the actual texture more the unrelenting bitterness from the Jasmine additions. Flavor wise a nice base beer as jaded by the Jasmine, I just didn't care for this combination or the fact that they have to get so creative with an already stellar style of beer, the IPA. Overall I think I said it, drink the Immortal and try a thimble full of this and move on.

Review from 6/2011 notes. Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a clear yellow orange amber with a one finger white head, lacing and nice carbonation; attractive. Aroma of caramel malt with a odd botanical component that does seem to be jasmine, although it interacts with the malt in an odd way. Medium bodied, almost creamy. Malt, light fruit and a funky botanical taste up front, finishing with nice sweet malt and a hop bite. Faint floral aftertaste. The middle flavor combination does not work for me and seems off, but the finish is nice. Remarkably full bodied and complex for its ABV, impressively made, but the off flavor of the jasmine with the malt didn't work for me. Glad I tried it and enjoyed the bottle, but probably not a repeater.

22oz bottle poured into a Pint Glass. I believe this is old, so I'm hoping it doesn't suck too bad.

A - Pours a cloudy gold with a dense, creamy ivory head that settles to a solid cap, leaving lots of streaky lacing as it recedes.
S - Definite aromas of jasmine, along with some grainy malt, and a heaping dollop of honey.
T - Pretty close to the nose, lots of floral jasmine and sweet honey malt. Definitely missing a distinctive hop "bite" but I'm chalking that up to the age.
M - Smooth and moderately creamy, with a medium body and solid carbonation.
O - Overall a nice floral beer, but in this state I can't call it an "IPA". I'll definitely seek out a fresher bottle since I've wanted this for a while.

Pours a golden ale with a little white foam, no lace. Smells like Jasmine with a hint of lemon zest.flavor is a bit sweet with some mineral like flavors and plenty of that Jasmine.I've had this beer plenty of times and the key is getting it fresh. Body is medium with moderate carb and a semi dry finish. Nice beer for me.

More Elysian IPAs from the recent arrival to PA.

Avatar Jasmine from a bomber.

Whoops!!! I did NOT decant this sucker, and I've got shit specks and clumps running all around my glass. The brew amidst the gunk is a honeyed amber with an itty bitty white head that's a little thicker than one layer of bubbles.

Well, it smells like jasmine. Some other floral hops in there, too. There's also a Sweet Tart candy vibe going on that's a little strange. Semi-funky sweet pale malt contributing, also.

Big jasmine layer, not unlike sweetened jasmine tea. Spritzy floral hop gives it bitterness and some rosewater esters. The malt isn't intrusive like it was in the nose. A crisp cracker malt sturdies the brew and keeps back from the hop and herbal garden show. Nothing particularly exceptional going on here, but this combo makes for a potentially great combo to build a beer from. I dig the jasmine. The hops are still a little too subdued, which is a stinker because they're pretty valuable to the essence of this beer being a success. Wish there was more explosiveness.

I'm seriously trying to forget about the yeast dregs I must have stuck in my teeth at this particular moment and concentrate on body, carbonation, and drinkability. Medium-light body with some persistent carbonation. Decent to drink. Not overly bitter, which helps the feel but not the taste for this style.

I'm not going to 'dump' on this beer. There was nothing outstanding to speak of; just a nice herbal addition without the necessary clout of hops to hold it up. Didn't like the malt profile of this one, and I could have CERTAINLY done without the heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy bottle conditioning! But, who's to knock... a clean pour on-tap I would order and finish with some enjoyment. Sorry, but this one's barely above-average.

22oz bottle with no freshness date. Sediment noted on the bottom of the bomber pre-pour.

Pours a hazy orange color. Not too hazy, but it's not super clear either. White head stood over a finger tall following a medium pour. Lacing is all over the glass. Impressive. Head is still hanging on after more than 5 minutes.

Holy jasmine flowers Batman! It's hard to get anything else from the aroma. A little bit of hops in the background, but you have to work to smell them.

More of the same in the taste. A large dose of jasmine up front. Maybe a bit too much? Some bitterness starts to peaks out from behind the initial wall of flower power. I'm also getting a bit of malty sweetness towards the back end. Finish is fairly clean with a lingering floral taste.

Medium bodied with a carbonation level that sits just below moderate.

A nice and very unique take on the IPA style overall.

Morey's Bottom Line: Once in a while you run into a beer that stands apart from the rest. Sometimes because it's elite, and sometimes it's because it's unique and different. The latter applies to this one. I have no way of knowing how fresh this beer is, but I could use a bit more hop flavor and bitterness to back up the bold jasmine flavor. It's still a good beer regardless though.

Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.

Poured from bomber with a clear orange/amber/copper color. Very nice head.

Aroma is strong jasmine and slight sweetness and hops.

Flavor starts out with a very strong sweet jasmine flavor which lingers a long while. A bit of bitter and citrus hops but mostly sweet jasmine flavors throughout. My initial reaction was as though it was candy, though not in an all together positive manner.

Overall I am glad I tried this beer as I have never had anything like it. Though it is too sweet for me and a little much in terms of Jasmine. I give them credit for originality, perhaps this just isn't my thing.

Slightly hazy with an yellow-amber color. Minimal and short lived head but decent lace. Understated aroma that's balanced between grain and caramel. Subtle jasmine elements as well. The taste is earthy and floral. Healthy earthy bitter finish, more East coast than West coast. Light carbonation and medium body.

This beer poured out as a lightly hazy golden color with a thin white head on top. The smell of the beer was hoppy and a bit floral... perhaps even spicy. The taste of the beer was good, I enjoyed it, it was bitter and yet it kept giving off some other flavors that I couldn't really pinpoint. The mouthfeel was light and smooth. Overall this beer is worth having again I think. It's a good IPA in my opinion.
