Truly a brown ale here, clean and brown in tone with decent foam and no lace.
Nose is sweet and maple-like. Not really impressive.
Flavor is sweet and malty, with hints of fall leaves and maple. Not much complexity here, just an over-sweet malt bomb. Not a favorite.

12oz bottle poured into pint glass
A Canadian beer brewed in St Louis
A- Clear chestnut brown. Two finger tan head that fades fast into a foamy ring.
S- Very sweet. Lots of caramel and brown sugar. No detectable nutty notes.
T- A lot like the smell, Very sweet. Too sweet for my tastebuds, esp for a brown ale IMO
M- Full bodied. Very smooth.
O- Not undrinkable, but way to sweet for my liking. Probably the sweetest brown ale I have ever had. Would have liked more dryness and some nutty, toasted malt notes.

Picked this one at the House of 1,000 for a dollar.
A - Pours a nice clear ruby brown color but head is minimal and reduces to a mild lace ring.
S - Smell is mild yet sweet with toasted nuts, bread crusts, overripe banana, and a touch of caramel.
T - Well it's much better than their pale ale but still a very lackluster brown. Mild if any nuts or toasted bread, very little brown malt, and an over sweetened finish that doesn't seem to save the overall beer. And I love sweet. Damn...
M - Light to medium it's really thin for a brown ale.
Overall not something to get even for a dollar. Look for better brown ales.

I found this a bit too sweet to enjoy more than one. I wanted to like it, but there are "better" browns out there. The mouthfeel is a bit unctuous, and then I was left with am overly saccharin sweetness. Felt carbonation was on the low side.

Dark red brown, med-big tan head steadily shrinks to foamy ring.
Aroma is caramelized toasted barley, bread crust, hints of wood and nut.
Taste is similar to aroma, lightly on the sweet side with very light but noticeable toasty-woody-peppery bitterness and a light winy hint. It is fairly simple and a bit sweet perhaps, but has good well-rounded character and is very enjoyable.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #57 (October 2011):
Alex has moved to St. Louis, no longer that oddball cult IPA that many have talked about. Intensely sweet, a bit off-kilter but still resists being undrinkable. Some dryness would help a lot, and more depth is needed in the malt department, as that sweetness stays around.
LOOK: Chestnut brown
SMELL: Sweet, caramel, brown sugar, hermit cookies, herbal hop
TASTE: Full bodied, smooth, very sweet, toasted grain, caramel, nou- gat, cake batter, mild bitterness
