A: Dark and hazy black body with a decent, though thin, mocha head. Good lacing down the pint glass.

S: An intoxicating coffee aroma. Sweet chocolate as well.

T: The coffee is still plentiful, but it's complemented very well by milk chocolate. Vanilla there too, as well as some possible cinnamon and nutmeg.

M: Good, but not very full as a big stout can be.

D: Nice and pleasant, especially for the coffee lover. Somewhat one-dimensional, but it works.

A- Pours a pitch blackness with a thin tan foamy head, looks like a large espresso. When held up to light, the edges are a burnt mahogany. Slight clinging edges. No streamers seen.

S- Potent aroma for sure. I can smell it wafting around just from the initial pour. The usual roasty, smokey, dark chocolate....with some lingering woody bitter sweet chocolate slight rummy-ness to it, some Kahlua. Smells good.

T- Starts off with that bitter sweet chocolate, fades into the woody roasty grain and then that rummy Kahlua flavor. Lingering biitersweet flavor, and a little Etoh burn. Not as advertised on the nose though.

M- Light carbonation, creamy smooth silkiness that is thinner than I would have guessed by the look.

D- I really enjoy a good stout, I haven't had an abunance of milk stouts, but I really enjoyed this one. I would seek this out again. There are some etoh giveaways to it, but overall an easy drinker.

this beer is delicious. I too picked up a growler at WholeFoods today.

it is smooth and creamy with a very nice coffee taste. Much like espresso in flavor. I am a huge fan of this beer.

the aroma is of coffee with milk and sugar, light and airy. The head is a bit thinner than I expected from a milk stout but it has staying power. The taste is just light and delicious, and I really expected it to be heavier than it was but it is incredibly drinkable for a milk stout. Great beer.

I just picked up my first 32oz growler from the beer room at Wholefoods on the bowery. Can I just say I love that there is a special beer room, it's so smart to have this space cater to the beer geek.

Sorry, back to Joe Mama!

I've always liked the creaminess of the Milk Stout style, but this one has the coffee notes that the others are missing. I really am enjoying this. Nice smooth mouth feel but less thick than a standard imperial stout. Yeah! Thanks Keegan!

From a 32 ounce bottle/growler filled at DeCiccios in Ardsley, NY. Pours the anticipated black, carbonation seems to be on the low side, but a more agressive pour reveals a tiny bubble film and then nice looking fine sheets of lacing. The nose on this one is of dark coffee grinds and sweet dark malts. Full on coffee infused stout. Yum. Dark grains, burnt grains, coffee, espresso, you get the idea. Nice stuff and gotta love fresh beer from an up and coming local NY state brewery. Go get some and enjoy, especially you stout lovers

Appearance: black in color with a thin tan colored head that slowly falls to a thick surface foam.

Smell: loads of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate are bold and pleasurable, and some hints of alcohol linger in the background.

Taste: big bold flavored beer here. Roasted malt and heavy coffee flavors are up front. Some chocolate sweetness compliments the coffee flavors. Bitterness is pretty hearty here along with some hints of alcohol warming.

Mouthfeel: heavy in body. Lightly crisp to start, nicely smooth at the finish. Aftertaste is long as the flavors glue themselves to the tongue.

Drinkability: an awesome flavored stout that goes down smoothly but slowly. I could see having two or three of these in a long session.

On tap at the Terrapin; Rhinebeck, NY.

Came poured with little head. Black. Big espresso hit with burnt sugar and black currant to follow. Thin feel to start opens up to creamy. Good sustain.

Distinct from Mother's Milk, and a drinkable example of type.

Joe Mama's Milk stout is basically Mother's Milk stout brewed with Muddy Cup coffee. Muddy Cup is a coffee house in Upstate NY.

On tap at Press 195 in Bayside, Queens.
Pours a deep black with a creamy looking off-white head. Lasting lace.
Nose is roasted coffee, chocolate and molasses. Hints of wood and grass.
Taste is burnt malt, coffee and a double espresso with three sugars. Low hop profile. Light caramel flavors pull through towards the end. Bitter-sweet aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is silky and smooth, but not thick. Almost oatmeal stout consistency. Very nice.

This is a mild sweet stout that is very easy to drink. I love a few pints of this or Mothers Milk every now and then. A great session stout and a great mod to a tasty year-round brew.
