Notes:
Our sweet stout is made in collaboration with Connecticut's favorite chocolatier, Munson's Chocolate. Copious amounts of oat malt produce a silky, full bodied beer laced with hints of roast and chocolate derived from dark malts. Each sip ends with a mild chocolate bitterness from Munson's proprietary cocoa powder, added generously to the brew. To round out this beer, we add several pounds of cocoa nibs at the end of fermentation to provide a fresh chocolate aroma.

A: Looks like a stout.
S: Thick chocolate, but when I swirl and sniff too much, I get a really odd, plasticy smell the reminds me of horse manure (although it doesn't actually smell like manure--it's quite odd but unwelcome nonetheless).
T: Lots of chocolate that is neither very sweet nor bitter, then roasted malts with a touch of balancing bitterness (I'm not sure if it's char or hops). No manure on the taste. This is very chocolatey, and it's definately a dessert beer, but it's not cloying.
M: Pleasantly medium-full, suiting the chocolate well.
O: Not a style I ordinarily go in for, but this is an enjoyable beer. One does the trick though.

Finally a beer that I can smell! Cocoa (obviously) and burnt toast on the nose. A slight bittersweetness on the fore with hints of orange or lemon-peel. A great silky-smooth moutfeel that really coats your mouth and lingers on the tongue. The chocolate or cocoa, rather, doesn't really come in until the very end of the finish. It's truly a bittersweet chocolate flavor only a few full seconds after you swallow.

Appearance: dark brown. Good bit of transparency around the edges. Tan head that recedes pretty quickly.
Smell: typical stout roastiness with as expected an evident, though not terribly rich, chocolate.
Taste: very much as the nose predicts.
Overall: a tasty enough good, not great effort. Glad I tried. Might pick up again, might not.

12 ouncer, "born on 12-27-12" etched onto the neck of the bottle.
Pours near black with a dark khaki head, leaves a nice looking fine film, collar and ample low sheeting and spots of lacing.
Dark bitter chocolate on the nose.
Flavorful sweeter stout, with more dark chocolate and a moderatly dry dusty hop finish. Chocolate lingering on the palate. Well done and well worth a try.

I sampled a few of these drafts at Home restaurant in Branford while meeting with a friend. The beer arrives in a pint glass chilled. The beer is a dark cola brown with frothy tan head of about .5 cm.
Aroma is roasted malt, dark cocoa bean and some brown sugar. Seems about right for the style, the roasted notes are dominant by far.
First sip reveals an average body with fine prickly carbonation and general smooth texture.
Flavor is heavy on roasted malt and dark chocolate. Almost coffee noted with the deep roast, the flavor is more robust than I anticipated and is very enjoyable for the beer. Some sweet notes come through on the finish and there is a slight palate coating quality to the beer.
I have recommended this one to others and think you should try it to as it is a winner as a stout in my book.

First had: on tap at Rattle N Hum, NYC, NY
Despite the bartenders' suggestions to skip this one, I decided to go for a sample. And it really wasn't as bad as they said it was.
Poured a dark brown color, deep and nearly opaque, with a thin cap of tan head. Aroma was pretty chocolaty, lesser notes of caramel and cream. Taste was similar, sweet chocolate, caramel creme candies, cappuccino...overall a pretty sweet beer, with a touch of roast in the finish. Where this one suffered was in the mouthfeel. It was nice and tasty, but quite thin in body, definitely more of a porter than a stout. The beer was served somewhat chilled, and I actually think that was a good idea. I liked it overall.
