Munich Helles Lager
Limited (brewed once).
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.
If ever there was a beer style that epitomizes the marvels of German brewing, it is the Munich Helles Lager. “Helles” (a German word meaning “light”) is the perfect adjective for this pale, straw-colored, thirst-quencher of a beer. With its origins in Munich, Germany, the Helles style traditionally shares a similar spicy hop character of a Czech Pilsner with a more subdued aroma and less assertive bitterness. Subtlety is the name of the game for this sessionable lager, yet it is artful and majestic in all its simplicity. With that said, Scratch #92 will reward you with a wonderful balance of rich, malty sweetness and a lingering, noble hoppiness followed by a slightly dry finish.

A- Pale straw colored body with crystal clear transparency. Very sticky white head that leaves a ton of lacing.
S- Lots of pale malt, almost smells like pilsner malt. Fresh grass, noble hops, hint of lemony citrus.
T- Big lager tastes, some light bready flavors, hint of citrus. Lots of flavor for lower abv.
M- Light and refreshing, very quenching and drinkable.
O- Really good warm weather beer, very drinkable. Troegs makes some very good lagers.

Served on-tap in the Tasting Room.
A - Pours clear straw yellow with a foamy one and a half finger tall white head leaving sticky rings of lace down most of the glass. Quite pale and pretty.
S - Smells of pills malt, some mild noble hop bitterness, their house lager yeast and a touch of sweetness. Nice and crisp, just like I like.
T - Starts off with some light bready pale malt mixed with the dulled sweetness slowly giving way to some nice noble hop bitterness and a bit of the yeast. The crisp feel really brings it all together, helping this one go down nice and smooth. Finish is a little chewy with some lingering hop bitterness, not leaving the palate dried for very long.
M - Clean, crisp feel with moderate carbonation. It goes down way too easy, my entire glass disappeared before I knew it.
O - Yet another tasty Helles lager from the scratch series. Just as good as the last two they made.
Tröegs seriously brews some amazing lagers, how is one of these not in the regular lineup yet? Lets go already!!

I had this on tap at the tasting room, served chilled in a stange.
The color is golden straw with great clarity and visibly carbonated with thick white head and tight bead. The smell is light with malt of the pilsner variety which brings a light grain note to the otherwise yeast oriented lager aroma with very low hop aroma. The feel is great it is clean and moderately high in carbonation with subtle toasted grain texture and mild sweetness with very light spice and semi dry finish with undetectable alcohol.
The flavor of this lager holds true to the traditional style with nice malty presence, not quite bready but has a malt impact with slight grain taste and mild sweet elements with yeast adding very gentle mineral almost creamy body to the lager. The taste is finished with a very light herbal hop and fairly dry quality. Overall this was the most traditional true to style Munich helles I have had the pleasure of drinking since I returned from Germany in the mid 90's, very quaffable yet extremely drinkable with low abv, it is almost mandatory that you have a second taste, but it is more of a beer that pairs with food- I enjoyed this with a salmon sandwich as the carbonation helped scrub some of the oils from my palate between tastes.
