growler fill poured into my trusty mug.

A- a yellow/light amber/orange color, very cloudy, with a very puffy off-white head, that leaves some absolutely fantastic lacing down the glass.

S- Citric hop notes, with strong notes of peach and tangerine. A little spicy rye on the back end with some crackery malt notes.

T- Very interesting. Hits me with a lot of the peach and tangerine notes up front, the citric nature of the hops are a bit subdued. Some crackery/bready malts are mixed in with the restrained spicy notes of the hops. Complex, and quite drinkable.

M- light carbonation, like from coming out of a growler. A slight creaminess, and just a touch dry on the finish.

O- Very interesting with the interplay of the dominant flavors (peach/tangerine and a light rye) Not sessionable by any means, but very complex, and very interesting.

A - Served with an amber body that shows some orange highlights...the head was white in color and stood about two fingers tall...it becomes a spotty cap, but there is nice lacing left behind

S - Tropical fruits are everywhere...bright and fresh citrus with grapefruit, orange, and mango...the hops work well in the nose with the malt backbone and rye addition also coming through

T - Not too much changes from the nose to the palate...the citric hops still reign supreme in the finish...the hops lend a nice bitterness at the finish...in between the rye and malt bill add to the flavors...the malt gives off some caramel, but it's subtle and not overly sweet...the rye addition adds a slight spice (which goes well with the hops) and a bit of bread dough flavor

M - Medium bodied...lingering finish with a bitter note and some spiciness

O - This was a nice Rye IPA...the citrus in the nose was top notch and it was present throughout the palate...the addition of the rye was subtle enough to be noticed, but not too much to be overpowering

Served on-tap at the Brewery.

A - Pours slightly hazed copper orange with a nice one finger tall white head leaving spotty rings of lace down parts of the glass.

S - Smells of juicy citric hops, spicy rye, bready malt, pine resin and some light tropical fruit. The fresh, fruity character goes a little dull toward the end of the glass, otherwise a really nice nose.

T - Starts off with a big citric hop bite that never really fades away. Some chewy / spicy rye comes in mid palate; combining with hints of pine, fresh citric rind and some lightly toasted caramel malt; to help rein in the intense hops. Finish is quite hoppy with some light chewiness, lingering on the palate long after the finish.

M - Medium-Full body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, slightly chewy feel with a ton of hop bite from start to finish.

O - I am not the biggest fan of these rye hybrid beers but this one worked really well. The rye offers a nice break from the intense hop bitterness and helps keep things balanced. I am glad I got to try this one before it disappeared.

Had this offering at Troegs brewery last week.

A- Pours cloudy amber/orange color, with one finger length head. Head retains froth for remainder of tasting. Nice snake skin like lacing down the glass.

S- Destinct fruit and citrus aspect to the nose. Citrus hops and a bit of rye malt at the back end.

T- Frothy grapefruit or mango characters up front. Mildly spiced hops next in line. Not to overwheling rye bready malt taste on the back end. Almost no alcohol taste coming across. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Very complex and balanced.

Bottom Line- I drank 3 in a row with no problem. Troegs got this one right. It is very drinkable. Balanced beyond words. This recipe should be saved for next seasonal opening.

Draft offering at the Troegs tasting room. The brew appears a clouded color of amber brown with some orange hints. A finger of off-white head sits atop and slowly recedes leaving spotty to patchy lace on the glass.

The aroma is strong with a fruity to floral and citrus hop aspect. Some toasty grain to accenting rye fruity character is present. It gets a bit herbal as it warms but overall the aromatics are pretty nice and well integrated here.

The flavors here taste of fruity and floral hops with an edging of citrus character. Some toasty grain inclusion and a solid fruity rye sweetness is imparted that blends well with the more floral components and alcohol esters. It finishes a bit herbal with a lingering citrus to fruity hop character.

This is a medium to fuller bodied brew with a smooth almost creamy feel imparted by the rye and yeast thats hung up in suspension. It is a nice rounded character that deviates from the norm and displays quite an ease of overall drinkability. I would drink this again.

On tap @ the Tröegs Brewing Company (Hershey, PA) on 9/28/12.

Pours a clear copper, with a finger of frothy off-white head. This retains with a sturdy ½ finger cap that rings the sides of the glass with sudsy lacing. The aroma smells fresh, piney, and citric, with more of gentle feeling combination of herbal notes and light tropical fruit on the edges. The dry doughiness of the rye sits underneath, which works well with the tanginess of the hops, while a strong spiciness punctuates the nose throughout.

The taste has bright grapefruit bitterness to it, tempered a bit on the sides by that same mix of herbal flavors and juicy tropical fruit character. That spicy graininess of the rye really stands out here; with it lingering in the finish with hoppier notes of resin, pithy bitterness and even more spice. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a firm and prickly feel to the carbonation that then smoothes out more on the edges of the feel and helps keep this fairly accessible. There is a touch of alcohol present in the body but nothing overly instructive to the other flavors.

This was OK but the more I drank this, the more that combination here of those Galaxy hops and rye didn’t work for me like I wanted it too. I think that it was the heavy emphasis on the herbal and tropical flavors that just clashed with it a bit too much for my taste. Anyway, it’s definitely an interesting mix of flavors. I’d recommend checking it out for yourself.
