My Fathers Day treat to myself.
Nice slightly hazy deep red appearance with a tall tan long lasting rocky head.
Nice aromas of dark, sweet and some bitter fruits. Even the smell of this beer is rich!
A real flavor bomb with the fruitiness up front, a wave of hops mid palate followed by more ripe fruit and a hind of sweet chocolate. Alcohol is not to obvious even at 9.3%
fairly thick full mouthfeel with gentle carbonation.
A real taste treat that was very enjoyable after my dinner of bbq ribs and home made potato salad

A: cloudy, amber/cherry color, little carbonation
S: sweet, caramel, spicy
T: spicy, cherry, malty, sweet
M: moderate, thin, slightly flat
O: sweet barleywine with a rich flavor, exotic aroma. Would be great by the fireside and a pipe. This is definitely a beer I would keep in my cellar to share with others. Certainly a good introduction to barleywines.

from a 22 oz Bomber, no visible bottling date:
A - Nice ruby red color with just a bit of head. minimal head with some nice legs.
S - several muted dark fruit notes, including raisins and dates, nice malty character and a bit of booziness. a touch of sweetness as well.
T - just a bit of hops then a nice caramel body. The raisins and dates were as present as on the nose with a touch of maybe toffee as the sweet finish.
M: Full bodied with minimal carbonation and a boozy aftertaste. Not sure of the age on this one but the hops were definitely muted.
O: Overall I really enjoyed this and will seek out more. Not as hoppy as other American Barleywines but this may have been on the shelf for awhile when I rescued it. May update with future samplings. I would say this may somewhat of a bridge between the English and American style...

5/1/12 bottling date. opened 6/5/13. poured into a snifter
pours a dark reddishbrown with a half inch thick white head.
smell is of dark fruits and booze. very much a barelywine here.
taste is quite mellow and smooth. figs and bitter fruits shine through, with a boozy mixture. surprisingly easy to drink for a barleywine. enjoyable. full bodied with low carbonation. good feel.
overall a solid barleywine, though not really anything too special. good, not great or in a must try category. i prefer my barleywines to be barrel aged and this one definitely isnt, but its still quite good. if youre in the mood for a barelywine this one fits the bill nicely.

Growler filled at the brewery (thanks, 1sophrosyne1!) two weekends ago, 2013 vintage, poured into a 3Stars snifter, drank 6/3/13 over one hour.
A: 4.50 - dark brown coloration, minimal clarity (can't see or read through), yellow-brown one finger head dissipates into subtle glass lacing, moderate-to-large alcohol legs
S: 4.25 - really malt forward notes...lots of toffee, caramel; no hop aroma as far as I can tell
T: 4.50 - big candy sugar sweetness on the front of the tongue, lingering burnt candy, caramel, toffee and slight vanilla, alcohol burn persists on the back of the palate that pleasantly lingers
M: 4.50 - full-bodied (mostly alcohol), chewy, boozy and sticky; mild-to-moderate carbonation
O: 4.50 - this beer is advertised as an American barleywine but, to be honest, this tastes like much more like an English barleywine with mostly malt forward and little hop aroma/flavors; nevertheless, this is an excellent beer with lots of complex malt characters in the nose and mouth that are very pleasant; I want to drink this beer again in the cold Winter months by a fire, which is where it will totally shine
