Poured into a snifter.

A: Clear dark red-brown with a two-finger, tan, creamy head that lasted several minutes. Really good lacing.

S: Sweet delicious malt. Dark fruit.

T: High sweetness and moderate bitterness. Dates and chocolate and a touch of hops.

M: Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Very smooth and only slightly warm going down.

O: Really good Barleywine. Smells wonderful and is so smooth.

22oz bottle. Looks to be bottled 05/01/12. Served in a Dogfish Head snifter.

Pours deep mahogany red with two fingers of fluffy head that leaves significant lace.

Subdued caramel nose.

Sweet smooth flavors of caramel, biscuit, syrup, mild toffee and a little booze.

Medium heavy, syrupy feel with subtle carbonation.

I've never had this fresh but this aged bottle tured out to be a great extra. Sweet, smooth caramel goodness.

12oz. bottle into a Flying Dog goblet (2012 vintage)

A: There is a nice gradient that is mainly dark brown but goes to a nice ruby around the edges where the refraction is. The lacing is very nice and the head was a caramel color.

S: Not too many notes here, it is all malt sweetness. It smells like a standard BW and there is no complexity here.

T: It is good and plain. There is now wow factor here for me. It is pretty sweet with a lot of caramel and syrup to it. However, it does get better as it warms up. Troegs taste description for it is good, but I got none of the Nugget Nectar, but this is a year old.

M: There is a nice combination of smoothness and subdued crispness. It is a great amount of carbonation.

O: I was really excited for this because of the high hop content, which I thought would make it taste like Bigfoot. I would say that it makes for a decent backup BW, but if it only comes in bombers then shoot for something else.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; Spring 2011 bottling, 2 years old now. Pours hazy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, apple, toast, light pine, brown sugar, orange rind, brown bread, orange zest, floral, grass, candi sugar, and toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt notes with a fair amount of hop presence. Taste of caramel, raisin, apple, toast, brown sugar, light orange rind, light pine, brown bread, floral, candi sugar, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, apple, caramel, toast, brown sugar, light pine, floral, candi sugar, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of malt flavors with a fair amount of hop presence; with zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, fairly slick, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent American Barleywine at 2 years of age. Very nice balance and complexity of malt flavors with moderate hops; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

A: Pours a very hazy reddish brown in color with some light amounts of visible carbonation and some mahogany + copper highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy dark beige head that quickly reduces to a wide medium thick ring of larger bubbles at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of caramel malts along with brown sugar and some hints of toffee. There are moderate aromas of pine/resin hops as well.

T: Overall this beer is pretty sweet and the sweetness increases as the beer warms up. Upfront there are strong flavors of malty sweetness with caramel, brown sugar, and just a touch of toffee. Light flavors of pine/resin hops that give it a light amount of lingering bitterness in the finish.

M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Sticky with some moderate amounts of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: There is a very nice amount of complexity in this beer that makes this one best enjoyed by slowly sipping to appreciate it. The alcohol is pretty well hidden in this beer but it is definitely a strong beer and there is a fair amount of sweetness.
