12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
A: Pours a hazy golden-orange. One inch off white head settles fairly quickly. A swirl of the glass will revive it, but only briefly. Lacing consists of thin, spidery veins that stick to the glass.
S: Good balance of malt and hop scents on the nose. Leafy and citrusy (orange and sugary grapefruit pith) hops run alongside a sugary sweet and slightly bready/grainy malt base.
T: Rind and resin hop bite at the outset settles into some gentler tropical hop tastes. Grapefruit rind, grapefruit pith, blood orange, pine resin. Hops go leafy and tobacco-like on the mid palate, and a touch spicy. Staunch malt presence of toasted grain and bread crust fights to keep its head above the water as the wave of hop flavor tries to drown it out. There's a sweetness in the malt base too; perhaps crystal malt. Finishes with a fading tide of citrusy hop tastes, bread crust, and maybe a touch of yeast.
M: Medium bodied. Creamy and very smooth. Aggressive, prickling carbonation. Good.
O: Not my favorite beer from Troegs, but certainly not bad. As American Pale Ales go, it's fairly generic. It relies perhaps a bit too much on its hop profile, as so many APAs these days do. I found the sweetness (crystal malt?) to be a touch off-putting too. A little bit more malt character would go a long way, as would a less heavy-handed dose of hops. Still a refreshing quaff, and worth a try.

bottle to pint glass.
Sampling of 4 troegs beers on New Years Eve.
AROMA: Light piney Hops. Grass, Barley.
LOOK: Dark Yellow
TASTE: Stale, grains, grass or hay. Not great. Strong alcohol taste for a plain old Pale Ale.
FEEL: light to meduim body, flat.
