I’m having this almost two years old. It was bottled 7/19/11. This was for discount at the store.

The beer pours out with a Coca Cola very dark brown/black. There is a rocky head that slowly dissipates.

The aroma has sweet roasted malt, caramel sweetness, and coffee. There’s some boozy vanilla in there too. The aroma isn’t very big, but it’s appropriate for the style.

The flavor hits you with a very sharp almost burnt malt, smokey flavor. It’s quite strong and catches you off guard at first. There’s espresso, licorice, and bitter chocolate with that. Then the beer comes with a good amount of bitterness on the end.

The mouthfeel is pretty standard for a porter. Not very creamy, quite light to medium body, and drinkable. Despite the age, I enjoy this beer a lot. Having had Edmund Fitzgerald and Black Butte recently, this I would say is on par. It definitely gets points for its huge smoke and bitterness, although being strong at times.
