Local place for me I always turn to when I want a tasty meal with some beer brewed in house. Service can be spotty, just sit at the bar if you see a young lady with black glasses, she's always over the top great service.

Always have a tap list of their house beers flowing. I've never had anything by them I'd describe as bad. Nice solid IPAs, great porters and brown ales.

Definitely recommend a stop by here at least once. They've got a great brunch on the weekends as well, and the beer is flowing!

The beer and the food are fantastic. Unfortunately, they have been known to put a hockey or soccer game on in September and October, which borders on a capital offense.

Always at least a bit lively with TV’s, billiards, foosball, shuffleboard tables, and occasional live music. Two bars and lots of additional seating, including some outdoors. 8 taps of house beers (although just 7 on tap at my most recent visit) and a good variety of cans and bottles from other US brewers. Service is neither problematic nor stellar.

The beer was average at most. The sampler was $16, which is what I pay in NYC for the same- so you are better off getting pints. I preferred the food over the beer when it came to quality. It was my second time at this place and I am still not impressed. Although it does seem like a cool place to be social with a pool room, 2 table shuffle boards, darts, and few other gaming options.

Not impressed. Asked for two different beers and were told they were out, but only after the server went to the bar. Sorry, but if you are a beer place, hire servers who know what's available. Also, one of our guests, ordered a Gin and tonic, and the tonic was flat, server went to get him another, and just brought another flat drink.

Hamburger, and other sandwiches we ordered were good, and the beef quality was above average, but the fries were limp and cold. They were attempting to do the blanche/fry method, and failed.

The server himself was pretty blasé. Seemed like he couldn't give a damn about a table of "older" unhip un-tatted 50 year old's. Hope his tip educated him on that aspect. In my opinion, they are banking hard that pool tables and shuffleboard will carry the kitchen.

All in all, dissapointed. I will probably give it another chance, but I will probably not bring friends or family there.

Love this place! Super chill, a little hippie-ish and dirty. Very spacious inside, plenty of tables, billiards, shuffleboard.. fun.

10 taps of house beers, including Pudd' Head stout, Tropicalia IPA (Aussie Summer), Dirty DIPA (collaboration with Sweetwater), Hell for Society stout, Vanilla in Hell, Gingerbread Brown...

As for food, we had the burger deal, $10 for a burger and beer. Great Brasstown local grass-fed beef, cooked perfectly rare, plus garlic fries and an array of sauces.

Beers were very good, service was warm and quick and the burger was outrageous. Reasonable prices. Loved the ambience as well and can't wait to return in my visit to the ATL.

Twain's has been a go to place for me. The brewmaster always has a trick up his sleeve and leaves me happy and please with his new creations. Twain's has pool tables and shuffle board, but quite frankly I have never used any of them.

My favorite things to order are the Garlic Fries and Honey Garlic Wings from the menu. The beer selection always reaches out to different pallets and pleases me every time I am there.

Recently, I had my 30th Birthday there and was not let down by the brews that were-a-stering.

Twain's is my local spot that I try to make it to at least once a quarter to see what the Brewmaster has in store.

stopped into Twain's after dinner at Leon's and more beer at the Brick Store, both walkable to this spot.

interesting place - more of a pool hall than anything - tons of pool tables, a few shuffleboard tables, some odd arcade games as well. There was also some (bad) live music going on.

Oh yeah, it's also a brewpub. Pretty brief list - I went for the IPA, which was fine, but not noteworthy.

There are also some bad tv's and a sense that this was probably once a very smokey poolhall.

Odd place, i would stick to the brickstore.

I go here from time to time, as it is the closest brewpub to me, by far.

Overall selection is fairly good, and they do have a list of everything they carry. I pretty much just drink their in-house stuff when I go there, though. It's usually pretty solid, if not spectacular, and it's about the same price as their domestic bottles, a nice deal.

The food is hit or miss. I recommend the fish and chips, though.

The service is fine.

The atmosphere (solidly on the hipster side of things) doesn't do it for me, personally, and keeps me from going there more often. However, that is totally a personal preference issue, so I can't dock them for that.

Overall, it's a pretty good spot for beer lovers in the area.

Visited Twain's on the first night of my spring break with my girlfriend. We ordered the fries appetizer (with sriracha mayo), the beer sampler, a 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die, the mussels, and a Saisson DuPont

Let me start out by saying that I did not enjoy a single beer they offered in their sampler. I felt bad because I hate to trash a place like this, but there was nothing good about it. Their Rye beer tasted like I was drinking bacon. The fact that that I didn't like that tells me this is not the place for me.

The service and food was good though. The bartenders were friendly, though not the quickest to refill our glasses.

The mussels were tremendous and complemented our Siasson wonderfully. This was the first time I had mussels (you're welcome, Megan) and I think it was a great plae to start.

Overall, their guest beers selection is pretty good and I would go back for them, but I do not see myself ever ordering another one of their house brews.

This was my first every day bar as I began my beer journey in life and what can you say but, You always have a special love for your first spot.

Service is top notch. The bartenders remember you by face and name after just a few visits. Yet they also know your ways. I dont think I ever asked for a beer there in my life unless it was to try some thing I didnt normally have.

Atmosphere is relaxed and complex all at the same time. A great multi purpose seating arrangement through out the various spaces of this place.

The food it by far the absolute best bar food I have ever had. Their cooks are sensational and the portions are substantial for the price you pay which is far better than reasonable.

The selection does seem to lack a bit, but what they offer is what is popular for that region of Atlanta.

Overall, a great friendly place to have a Brew.

Love this place.... Love their fresh-brewed beer... love their food... love the service. The ONLY complaint I have with Twain's is the lack of a large craft/import selection. Don't get me wrong, I have never been disappointed with their house brews. And they DO have a handfull of bombers, singles, and visiting beers on draught. However, I just wish they had a larger selection. EVERYTHING else about this place is nearly perfect. Thanks to all of the management and staff of Twain's for the amazing food and fresh beer... I will see you all again very soon!

I've been to Twains numerous times and sampled lots of their offerings from both menus so why I havent done this review yet is beyond me.

The place is pretty standard for a brewpub - bar, dining area, patio and the added bonus of games and stuff. Live bands weekly and a nice location off the Decatur square, going to Twains is never a bad idea

Beer wise, again, pretty standard for a brewpub. Some really nice hits (XL DIPA), some disappointments (Belgian Black) and some nice standards to come back to (Mad Happy). Their beer is always fresh and priced well, with a couple of rotating bottles and a few dozen bottles offered (a lot of crap macros that they sell a ton of too). Bar service has always been attentive, but I have had slow service in the dining area a few times.

The one thing that has always disappointed me is the food. Not sure why, I mean I go here for the beer, but maybe just being in Decatur I expect some pretty good food to go with it. Have tried a few things and never came away impressed by anything other than maybe the wings.

Probably not the most glowing review, I'll admit that, but I still really enjoy visits to Twains. A great stop in the Decatur beer scene.

Updated to lower some scores: half of the taps are now guest, I could have sworn it used to be Guinness and just one other guest. Truthfully, the lineup that is available has been weak - not un-drinkable by any means, just very average. Service has been downright rude on occasion. Its getting harder to spend my time and money there. The score may seem low, but its an average brewpub with some questionable service - a C is about right in my book.

I have been to Twain's numerous times over the years, as it changed from smokey pool hall to brew pub (with half the pool tables). It has been a welcome change, in my book. Atmosphere is very diverse, since it is not a brew pub alone, it pulls in the billiard crowd and the other younger BMC drinkers. The place itself is much nicer after the remodeling. I have enjoyed a number of the beers they offer, and have been impressed by and large. They normally have a fairly nice mix of their brews, a couple guest taps, and as previously stated all the BMCs. Service is pretty good, but don't expect a the same beer knowledge you might encounter at all brew pubs, its definitely a mix. Food is good (I have not been to a dinner, but need to). I almost did not include a rating for it, as I have only eaten there twice, and both times had what amounted to standard pub fare. In the end, Twain's is a nice stop on any beer visit to Decatur, they have a few beers that will really impress, and makes a nice stop at the end of your swing through town.

I visited the place on a Tuesday evening. There was a decent crowd, not crowded but it definately grew by the time that we left. Nice long bar, very spacious and a good number of tables to eat at. The atmosphere could be better, but the night that we went there were a bunch of kids running around and that is generally not something that I look for when I am going out to get a few beers.

I think the night that we went they had 7 beers or so on tap, plus Guiness. My wife got a sample of all the beer and for the most part, all were well done, some more than others, but that is expected. I tried the Bullfrog IPA, which I thought was a solid beer. They probably had 5 different styles that night. Our service that night was not good. Our waitress forgot some of our food and drink orders and when were going to leave, she was not to be found.

The food was very good. We had the fish & chips and some chicken wings and both were done really well.

Overall, Twain's is a solid place and for $3 for a 12oz, it is a good deal. I will be back.

This bar is fairly wide open giving you a free-to-move-about feeling. Nice long bar that would seat at least 20 patrons.

The quality of the beer was just average. Some were spot on to style, but others were nasty; e.g. the pale ale. What a horrid drink. My friends and I all had the sampler and we had to 'shoot' the pale ale out of disgust.

Our waiter was helpful and informative for the most part asking questions about our tastes/favorite styles and offering help for our selections.

They offer a wide variety of styles so I would say the selection is quite nice. I remember too that they offer some local stuff as well as some BMC so there is something for everyone here.

The food was definitely the best part. I enjoyed a nice BBQ sandwich and was not let down one bit. From our party of 4, we all agreed that they have better than your run of the mill pub food.

Pricing was right in line; maybe a little bit on the low side to make them very reasonable.

While right down from the BSP it is a must stop, if you are on limited time, skip it and go straight to the BSP.

Went here on a Wednesday night. A good amount of people were here, but not enough to make it unbearable.

Atmosphere is a lot better than I expected. A lot of open space with a lot of pool tables. There's a great outdoor patio with plenty of tables and greenery.

Quality is good. Everything was done well.

Service was also good. Had a snag with the bill but the waitress made it work, and was very accommodating with splitting up the bill. Food and beer both came out pretty fast.

Selection is good. They had 7 of their own brews on tap, two other beers on tap - Guinness is always there, with the other one being Weyerbacher Hop Infusion. Unfortunately they were all out of the Weyerbacher, which was disappointing. Other than that, they have a pretty large selection of bottled beers.

Food was very good. Someone I was with had the black bean burger and loved it, and I had the fish and chips and loved it. Very tasty.

Everything was very reasonably priced. All but one of their own beers was $3.00, one higher ABV one was $4.00, and their draft beers were $3.50, a good deal for Weyerbacher if they'd had it, and a good deal for Guinness. Their bottles and food were also reasonably priced.

Definitely a place to check out if you're around. They always have a different guest beer on tap, and their own beers change at a decent interval from what I understand. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

Warning this in NOT an unbiased review but is it not an uneducated one either.

We are "loyal patrons" as they've said of Twain's and are there more then we'd like to admit to. It is our neighborhood pub, our local, our hang-out of choice and place for celebrations. On any given night we may be there with our neighbors and see parents of our kid's classmates, church members, members from the home brew or beer tasting/educating clubs. Other brewers, restaurant owners, chefs, bartenders, servers, brewery sales managers, writers, musicians, politicians and fellow Beer Advocates are there regularly too.

Food: The menu may read like standard pub fare but with a culinary degree and 10 years experience in the industry I can assure you it is not. The burgers are seasoned and hand pattied. The wings are not tossed in sysco hot wing sauce but a homemade one heavy on black pepper. They reach vegetarians with their chili and mediterranean platters. Kids with turkey/cheese wraps, pita pizza and spagetti after 5. The beer dinners bring it up one more notch. Smoked Prime Rib was the entree in the fall and a Vegetarian menu for the spring is in the works we've heard.

Beer: That is why we're here right? In the simple opinion of a homebrewer, beergeek and beer tourist...Mad Happy is our regular pleasure but we enjoy the whole list from there. There is a joy about these recipes that is missing in some overly complex and sometime higher rated beers. Not that there is a lack of complexity, most certainly not in the special beers that Jordan brews. There is a new cask introduced every other Wed. and sometimes more often. Jordan has made an Imperial Stout with Jameson soaked oak-chips, an Oak-merlot Triple, and most recently a Smoked Rye Ale with Chipolte. If you are lucky enough to get a tour of the "brewery" (or just peek in the fishbowl) he works wonders in a small space. When Twain's pub-brewed beers are sold out the owners work hard at getting unique and special guest taps in, i.e. Butte Creek Organic Revolutions XI Imperial IPA.

In conclusion, I think I've run out of allotted words.

Twain's Billiards and Tap is a unique brewpub located in Decatur, which just seems to be the heart of beer culture in the Atlanta metro area right now. Located a stone's throw from the Brick Store Pub on E. Trinity, the place is a bit bigger than the world famous beer bar located around the corner. Walking in through the front door reveals a fare share of seating to the right and straight ahead, while a very nice sized bar is on the left. There is even a patio that had some dead vines hanging around, but you have to imagine that it would be quite nice once the weather warms and things start turning green again. The bar is decorated with various sports paraphernalia focusing on hockey along with various airplane propellers and other aviation gear. A few pieces of brewerania hang around as well, including a huge mural dedicated to the now defunct Dogwood Brewery. What makes this place different than your average brewpub is the presence of typical "bar games." Pool tables, dart boards, and even a few arcade games keep patrons entertained, plus they have a whole extra room with even more pool tables. Additionally, Twains is often the host of some live bands, so check their website for more information.

The brewing equipment can be viewed from an outside window, but unlike most brewpubs, it remains completely hidden while inside the bar. During my particular visit, five of their beers were available which included Heaven for Climate Golden Ale, Mad Happy Pale Ale, Stubborn River Bitter Ale, Mugwamp Brown Ale, and Captain Stormfield Abbey Ale which was a strong Belgian golden ale at 7.8%. I chose go with the abbey ale, which was quite enjoyable and a solid example of the style, worthy of the style. The menu promised that this was to be a part of a series of Belgian ales to be brewed throughout the year. They also features a few taps for other beers. This selection included Highland Oatmeal Porter and Butte Creek Organic Revolution XI.

The menu is comprised of mostly standard pub fare such as burgers, chicken fingers, and sandwiches, but a few other items are available like a New York Strip, Pork Chops, and Turkey Meatloaf. I chose to go with a Cuban Sandwich and an appetizer of onion rings which is made with their bitter. They also use the same batter for their fish and chips. Beer is often used in batter for deep frying because of the carbonation helps to keep the breading light and crispy. Think about using it during your next fish fry!

Twains is a great brewpub in Decatur worthy of a stop if you are in the area. My visit happened to be during a Sunday afternoon, so I would like to get back at night when the atmosphere is undoubtedly busier. I would also like to see a few more interesting beer choices, but I their website indicates that they have other beers at other times. Looks like I will be making some more visits sometime soon.

Enormous size with lots of pool tables, clean and efficient restaurant and bar in DeCauter. Not upclass like the Brick, nor university like Manuel's. Definately worth a stop. Above average brew made here, though only one guest tap and the occasional cask. Bartendress was the one in charge. A change of pace from the Brick, go to the Brick if you have only one place to go midtown or south in Atlanta, and some related ownership involved. The IS was the best of the line and is separate from the samplers, and is made small batch.

I went in the middle of the afternoon so yes business was slow but even with that the service was above and beyond the call and my bartender was extremely knowledgeable, cheerful and prompt..extremely good service.

I unfortunately did not have a lot of time, but I wanted to be able to stop in and at least see all these places as there seems to be a good amount of scene here in Decatur. This place actually seemed right up my alley. I really love brewpubs and thought this place was laid out very well. Nice decent sized place compared to some of the smaller spots in town with lots of typical bar games. Looked like they had all their own on tap, but unfortunately was in no shape to try them with a 3 hour drive home and ahead. Was not loud or crazy, but I could see how it would get quite lively on a good night. Twain's, the brew pub down the block from the Brickstore!

Beers: hitting Twain's is usually enjoyable, but the beers they actually make haven't blown my mind. The one exception to this would be a bourbon cask aged stout I had a few months ago which was superb. You can get a sampler of their standard beers if you've never been, but like I said, I find most of them to be average. This doesn't mean they're not suitable for a night of beer drinking; just don't go looking to have your life changed.

Food: food has been hit or miss for me, but the last thing I ate there (cheeseburger) completely hit the spot and was very enjoyable

Atmosphere - enjoyable. Not quite as cozy or interesting as BSP, but Twain's does have darts, pool, and shuffleboard

Overall, Twain's is fun and a nice place to head with a large group.

This a big bar with pool, shuffleboard, and darts, combined with a big outdoor section, a second big room with pool tables, and somewhat separated tables up front.
The atmosphere varies, but Emory students/faculty and locals alike can be found there. Gets busier and rowdier on weekend nights. Selection is decent.
I haven't actually had a meal here, although the various appetizers I've had were all great, especially the sweet potato fries.
There's a few big hockey banners hanging from the ceiling, you gotta love finding that in Atlanta. Anyway, hit up Brick Store first if you're limited on time, but Twain's is only two blocks away and is an excellent stop to add if you are in Decatur.

Update: Selection is getting better, and they are cranking out some quality beers recently.
Reedit, 10/08: The beers are getting even better, with some excellent cask ales and very unique, inventive beers coming out recently. They also seem to be getting better bottles. I ratcheted up selection to 4.5, deservedly so.

Decor is decent enough but overall I was disappointed in this brewpub. My biggest compaint is the beer. The brown was way overblown with crystal malt and chocolate flavors. I could not drink more than three sips. The IPA was average at best and not well balanced overall. The menu was un-imaginative in all aspects with maybe the exception of how the dishes were named. Bar fare doesn't have to be lame. Since I am such a Mark Twain fan I kind of took it personal that such clever Southern gentlemen's name had been desecrated in a way. A: nice decatur bar, comfortable, windows around and a good vibe - the rennovations of the last year were worth it - nice feel inside.
Q: Good selection of house and import beers - all craft that I noticed. We tried 2 of the locals, and both were decent - the brown ale especially.
S: Atrocious service, and I'm willing to take my time in a bar! Almost 15 minutes before we even saw our waiter, and this was after asking for him at the front. We had to go to the bar to get a second round of drinks, and 2 of the 4 received the wrong food.
S: Decent selection of in house and local.
F: Good, but nothing great. For the price, and the fact its a bar, I'm fine with it.

Overall, a good place with good beer and decent food. Atmosphere is great, now all we need are some new waiters.
