12oz bottle, best by 4th week of March 2013. Served at around 40-45F.

Pours semi-hazy amber with a two finger white head that leaves globby rings of lacing and holds a good cap.

Aroma is oranges, some pine, apricot, caramel, bread. Good to very good strength. Hoppy but balanced with a good bit of malt.

Flavor is orange citrus, apricot, resinous hops, good amount of caramel malt, mild to moderate sweetness, moderate to good bitterness, some alcohol on the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, somewhat creamy, little sticky, good carbonation.

Good IPA. Definitely more on the balanced side, decent bit of caramel here, not exactly my style, but pretty good.

Picked this up at Craft Brewed Nashville while in town for business.

A-pour is a crystal clear orange amber with a frothy white head and great retention and lacing.

S-some piney hops with lots of strongest character.

T-quite tasty indeed. Nice malty sweetness up front, sond good piney hop bitterness in the back. Good balance overall.

M-medium bodied, a bit slick. I prefer a somewhat lighter body in this style but it's not bad.

O/a fine local brew.we enjoyed the six pack in the room. None made it home.

A- pours a dark and hazy amber-orange with a small creamy white head that reduces to a small layer on top

S- orange and grapefruit citrus hops with a sharp peppery spice, caramel and bready sweet malt

T- citrus hops are there but more floral hop nose come out in the flavor, good amout of caramel malt sweetness to balance out the hops, the finish is slightly sweet with more floral hops on the finish

M- medium-heavy body with low carbonation, foamy mouthfeel leads to a chewy-yet-smooth finish, definitely doesn't drink like the over 7% is consists of

O- big hop flavors but enough malt to balance it out evenly, very easy drinking for the ABV, floral notes are nice.

Bottle into Duvel Glass

Appearance: LIght ruby orange, one finger thick white head, lots of lacing

Smell: Citrus, grapefruity, earthy notes, lemon, pineapple, the aroma is amazing.

Taste: Very hoppy, this beer is a hop bomb. Lot's of pine, citrus, grapefruit, and other fruity flavors.

Overall: I would buy this again, the best IPA you can get from Nashville, or TN for the most part. Lot's of hops, bitter and dry, perfect for hop heads but probably too intense for the casual beer drinkable. It's remarkably drinkable as well.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazy lighter gold wiht a one finger white head. Thick lacing all the way around the sides of the glass with pretty good head retention.

The aroma is quite dank with some hints of onion. Citrus is present but it is a little bit muted with just a little orange, pineapple, and grapefruit sneaking through. Pretty unique and quite mouthwatering.

Definitely more citrus present in the flavor in the way of pineapple and grapefruit. There is a little clove/banana yeast character but not enough to really throw off the flavor. Some earth and not a whole lot in the way of maltiness; the hops are the driving force in this beer. Bitterness is assertive with a little stickyness left over.

Overall, a really good offering from Blackstone and a solid IPA. While it is not as fruity as I prefer, it is a beer worthy of picking up and one of the better ones I have had from a Tennessee brewery.

Pours a relatively clear orange gold with 2 full fingers of paper white head. Laces decently and retains the head relatively well.

Nose is more orange than grapefruit with a strong malt underpinning. Smells stronger than the abv would warrant. Well done.

Mild hit on the tongue, orange citrus builds. Just a hint of tart grapefruit compliments that in the end. Finish is fairly dry, but still retains the orange sweets.

Decent malt backbone backs up the orange citrus. Body well matched to the flavor.

Overall a very tasty drinker. Next to their Maris Otter, my favorite from this brewery/pub.

Appearance is very clear, light amber, obviously filtered. Nice but pretty average white head.

Smells of sharp orange and grapefruit citrus, spicy almost rye hop character, strong floral notes too. Smells great and pretty complex.

A little less citrus in the taste but even more spice and even more flowers. Considerably more malt character too, a tad more than I'd like. A pretty well balanced, very tasty IPA (technically they're DIPA but not really high enough ABV to clearly qualify as a DIPA).

Well carbonates which blends well with the spicy flavors, a little thickness in the mouth which hints at the slightly higher than average abv.

Overall a really nice IPA and I'm glad Blackstone is starting to bottle cool things like this! The day might come soon when we don't have to be depressed about the state of Tennessee breweries anymore.

A: Served on tap at The Flying Saucer in Memphis, TN. GO HERE!! Anyway, Pours a lightly haze golden amber, with a nice head

S: Definitely hoppy, a bit piney with a touch of sour

T: WOW! I really enjoyed this one. I had never had Blackstone before visiting Memphis, and I really hope they come to St. Louis. I'm definitely a hop-head, and this didn't dissapoint. A wonderfully complex beer, I would rate it as more of an amped up single than a double. It was missing the malty sweet of a double, which I'm good with. Grapefruit, citrus, maybe a hint of clove

M: Smooth for a DIPA. A crisp beer, but still easy drinking.

O: Man, it's almost worth the trip to Nashville to grab a few growlers. Definitely a great beer

I LOVE fresh hop beer and beers over 100 IBU. (As far as I know this in NOT fresh hop, but even then... well, read on.) The appearance was fine, though a bit hazy, and the aroma great: a Centennial like aroma with grapefruit-hint. Head pillow mixed with big bubble that goes away fast. It's when you get to the mouthfeel and taste where this falls. Harsh. Understand: I love 100 IBU beers but this is grassy: not in a good way, astringent: as if boiled too long, or dry hopped to the extreme. I'm guessing the first. This would be a GREAT beer, but something went REAL wrong with the hops here. Bear in mind: Tim Rastetter in Ohio and KY was doing IBUs way over 100 and I loved them. Had to cut some back then, not now I would think, but loved anyway. This was hard to drink.

I love Blackstone's beer. That didn't used to be quite as true. Years ago they stuck mostly with a few styles, but when Travis came they started mixing them up. Indeed, if you're looking for on the style mark, and very good, Blackstone's the place. My guess: since TN has abv issues, and this according to what I have read this is their first high grav offering, (Bottled?) they tried to compensate and over shot that mark.

They hand pump beers. I'm guessing I'd like this a whole lot better on hand pump: tends to soften out the harshness.

12oz bottle into pint glass.

A: Golden Straw/Amber Hue, Passes Some Light, Thick White Head, Some Lacing

S: Bready, Mild Resin, Mild Floral

T: Crackers, Resin, Mildly Soapy

M: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Semi Drying, Mildly Bitter

Overall, a really nice APA except for the soapy finish but solid otherwise.

A- poured from a bottle into a glass. Deep, dark orange with minimal head that dies quickly.

S- smells of hops. Still learning but it smells like chinook and centennial to me.

T- somewhat sweet up front with the hops quickly overtaking the taste. Good hop flavor with some bite. The bitterness is not harsh though. Very good balance which plays well with the smell.

M- I get a little tingle from the hops, not too thick, not too thin. As Goldilocks would say, "This beer is just right."

I really enjoyed this beer. I'm glad it is local for me.

Ale pours with a dark gold with a white head that dissipates but laces down the glass. Aroma of mango, pineapple and citrus. Flavor starts with bracing bitterness that transactions to more tropical fruits and finishes pleasantly bitter. This reminds me of Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA and is certainly a nice surprise from the more typical tame products from Blackstone. This is a very enjoyable double IPA (at 7.3% maybe a high single) and a worthy repurchase.
