The Take Two retro from Two Bros is a very good American Pale Lager. The beer pours a clear golden yellow with thin white head that is lacing. The scent is faint...some grassy notes and piney hops. The taste is very good balanced lager. The mouthfeel is light to medium body with good carbaontaion. Overall this is a great session ale....I like this more than the path...it comes off the pallet clean.

Pours a very pale orange. Very clear. The head is a fairly bright white, a finger thick at best, but lacks significant retention. Decent lacing as the head falls and the beer warms.

Pilsner malts are mostly what I pick up. There's a slight floral scent, but it's mostly the pils malt and some lager yeast.

You can almost taste the different yeasts fighting each other. The boring lager yeast and pilsner malts give you that ho hum taste, but then the ale yeast gives sharper edges and some actual flavor that make the lager worth drinking. Very peppery, with a caramel malt finish.

It's got some sharp spicy notes from beginning to end. Faint floral, earthy feel. Crisp with slight sweetness. Some carbonation in the end, mild bitterness.

It's a much better beer than I expected, but very strange. Easy to drink, very easy actually. More or less a session beer with crisp flavors.

22 ounce bottle into pilsener glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a nice 1 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some nice spotty lacing clings down the glass, with plenty of carbonation streaming up retaining the head. Aromas of apple, pear, lemon zest, herbal, grass, pepper, bread, and wheat. Nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of lemon zest, pear, orange, pepper, floral, bread, wheat, grass, and herbal spiciness. Fair amount of spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, bread, wheat, grass, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance of flavors with decent complexity; no cloying flavors at all after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with a slight warming noticed well after the finish. Overall this is a nice pale lager hybrid beer. Nice amounts of flavor with good balance; and extremely smooth and crisp to drink. Really quite enjoyable stuff.

Shared with a testing group, this beer was poured into a sampler goblet. Showing a golden yellow color, the beer had a bright white head. I was not sure what to make of this one since it is a hybird of styles. There was not much of an aroma present. With scent playing such a role in the experience, this was a bad sign. The initial taste was a smooth carmely note. It was not particularly sweet, so it was far from overwhelming. A malty backbone blended into the carmel notes, but demonstrated little contrast. In this sense, the beer was one-dimensional. The malt faded before disappearing quickly amid the carbonation in the aftertaste. I expect a little more bang for a special release beer. There really is nothing special about this one.

Poured from a bomber into a small pokal glass.

A: Clear, medium golden color with one finger of diminishing white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass and a few streams of bubbles rise unhurriedly in the column.

S: Grain is pale and toasted, with faint lime peel that adds refinement.

T: Begins barely off-dry, with light malt that is slightly biscuity. Early hop aromatics are understated, with just a hint of floral quality present. Acidity is low into the middle where some weak bright fruit is detected. A fairly sharp mineral edge contrasts all other qualities toward the finish but then drops abruptly, yielding to some late but determined bready malt.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, smooth and balanced on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: Wow, the Two Brothers sure know how to party... To celebrate their 15th anniversary they selected a variety of recipes from their past for re-release. An ambitious plan, but their choices have been mostly puzzling ones thus far. Perhaps none are more puzzling than this beer: despite the gimmick behind it, there is nothing memorable or particularly worth repeating here. It is nice to look at, and the textural qualities really do impress, but the backbone of it turns out to be American-brewed helles lager/ale/whatever.

Deep golden yellow color, clear body. No lacing and minimal head retention.

Grainy and grassy smell, not much else.

Grassy taste with a slight buttery tone. Slight bitterness.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter side and a little under carbonated.

It's a safe but completely unexciting beer.

Poured a bright golden with lots of carbonation running through it. Has a big pillowy white head, good retention and nice lacing.

The smell is light and grainy with a touch of grassy hops.

The flavor is very pedestrian light bit of sweet grain with a touch of grassy hops. Not much else.

The mouth feel is light with good carbonation.

Pretty boring special release. The only thing that would be at all slightly different in this so called hybrid beer would be the two yeasts of which I don't taste either.

22oz bomber from 15 beers for 15 years series - #5

Pours golden, excellent clarity, foamy white head holds good retention and leaves some lacing on the glass. Aromas are biscuity grain, grassy, lager yeast, slightly fruity - apple or grape juice perhaps. Flavors are mild, with notes of toasted grain, yeast, grassy, faint apple, dry grape juice. Body is medium, while being smooth, and crisp. Overall, it is what it is. Not much to compare it to that I can think of as far as the style goes (ale/lager hybrid), but it's very well executed.
