Poured from a bomber into a half-pint chalice.
A: Slightly hazy, brassy golden color with one finger of white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass and a few streams of bubbles climb eagerly in the column.
S: Very mild--a touch of aromatic pine and some feather-light rye, but too little of either.
T: Begins dry, with spicy rye and hop aromatics that are mildly floral with some berry qualities as well. Acidity is restrained, appropriate, into the middle where floral hop flavors continue on and lesser bready malt emerges. It finishes with but medicinal bitterness.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, balanced on the palate, with moderate carbonation.
D/O: This is a fairly typical pale ale for Two Brothers--well made but conservative in its approach. Balance is achieved but no qualities really stand out. As a historical footnote it is mislabeled as being 68% ABV.

I like the Pillar Of Salt. It is a tasty beer. The beer pour a beautiful clear golden color with slight copper hue. The head is nice an thick and is lacing nicely. The smell is a little weak, but you can pick up fresh hops that provide a pine like effervescence. The taste starts with a good rye push, then the jobs kick in which give a good pine flavor with a subtle citrus kick. The mouthfeel is a good medium bodied ale with decent carbonation. Overall it is one of the better two bros comebacks!

Fizzes up out of the neck of the bottle with intensity. That combined with the not entirely common tart spiciness of the aroma made me think for a second it was infected. It wasn't. It's just not normal.
Pours dark. More gold than the name had led me to anticipate, but thankfully much more reasonably fizzy than the uncapping had led me to expect. Smells, like I said, crispy citrusy and spicy, and the combination between citrus and spice nodes is complex in a way that doesn't at first seem intentional. It's a little apothecarian, like an old timey tincture. Also a little like a straight up Belgian. The zippy rye is manifest, but if it wasn't mentioned in the beer's name I might have mistaken it for something else, because rye just isn't normally presented in this manner.
Tastes like it smells: different, but pretty good and well put together. White pepper starts things off, moving into sharp rye backed with pale, biscuity barley. This moves into a middle of lemon zest and orange rind and ends with a yeast profile that reminds me of Founder's' beers in a way I'm not quite learned enough to clearly explain.

This is part of the Retro Release series. Bringing back 15 beers from the past 15 years of operation. This is number 4 of 15.
A: Pours a slightly hazy amber/golden/orange color. A dense, two finger white head forms with excellent retention and lace. This is a looker.
S: The first thing that hits the nose is a perfume like floral aroma. Some fruity esters of apples and pears. Slightly slick and oily, but not bad. Peppery spice, bread and biscuit. Really enjoyable.
T: Follows the nose with a great floral, perfume like flavor. Zesty citrus and lemon. Other fruity esters that follow the nose. Peppery spice and biscuit from the rye. Maybe just a bit to slick and oily. A bit on the soapy side.
M/D: The body is on the lighter side of medium. Soft and fine carbonation. Smooth and creamy. Just a bit of soapy slickness, but not bad. Really easy and enjoyable to drink. The bomber will be gone in no time.
I love rye beers, and this is a good one. It is basically the opposite of the mega hopped Cane & Able, Founders Red Rye, or Hop Rod Rye. Much more delicate, and incredibly enjoyable. The soapiness almost becomes to much, but still something I highly recommend.

It's really an attractive beer with a light copper color, both slightly clear, yet with specs of goodness roaming around in the liquid. Up top is a gorgeous bright white head with a classic IPA look to it. Lots of different sized bubbles, eventually ending up around the sides of the glass. A beautiful thin white lace is left behind as the head finally dies.
Smell could use more aggression. It's faintly floral, with some orange peel and a bready, yeasty scent.
The rye is obvious, but so are the caramel malts and a hint of toffee. I wouldn't think the two flavors would work well together, but they do.
Like the taste, the two feels--the spicy from the rye and the sweetness from the malt-- works very well together to give a nice balance. Has a pale ale feel to it, but it's very mild.
It's very easy to drink, goes down nicely. Moderate alcohol and good flavor combinations. Fairly smooth. Somewhat non-descript, yet good at the same time.

A: Clear straw/amber and low/medium carbonation.
S: Malty with spicy rye note and nice hop aroma.
T: Strong malt yet dry with spicy rye bite and bold hop finish which strengthens as this warms.
M: Medium/full mouthfeel and lightly carbonated
O: One of my favorite Two Brothers brews. Even better than Cane & Ebel.

Pillar of Salt pours an attractive gold color. It’s clear. Backlighting gives it a slight orange tint. A white tan head tops it off. It stands about a finger and a half tall or so. Retention was pretty good. It fell to a surface covering rather quickly, but holds firm there for a bit. Lacing was sticky and moderate in volume. Looks good.
The nose is pretty good. Perhaps a tad weak. A bump in strength would easily warrant a bump in score. It smells earthy and grainy throughout. There is a bit of bready, rye scent. Hops are easily noted. They have a citrus grapefruit and grassy scent. It’s a pretty nice mix. A little yeast is notable on the tail. It’s light and subtle. Alcohol is mildly noticeable. Far from overbearing. Smells pretty good. A little more strength would do the trick.
The flavor is a tad better. The malt base is a little sweet, but it’s definitely reserved. The spicy rye flavor is lively and delicious. There’s a breadlike quality to it that works well. Yeast is more prominent than anticipated. Hops are very flavorful and work well with the rye. Citrus grapefruit, orange, and grassy flavors are noted. It’s slightly bitter and dry. Alcohol is blended well and isn’t all that noticeable. Finishes spicy, hoppy, and dry. Good stuff.
Pillar of Salt has a body that’s on the light side of medium. Carbonation is light and the bubbles feel soft. It goes down pretty smooth and easy. This bomber won’t be much of a challenge.
Pillar of Salt is good beer. I like it. Two Brothers should keep this one in the rotation for the long haul. It really is good stuff. The interplay between the rye and hops really makes it work. If you see it, grab a bottle.
