A- Garnet with a thin, one finger off white head that stays firm as a slick. A couple wisps of lacing.
S- On the nose, I'm a bit surprised it's a rye beer. It comes through heavy on hops with citrus being front and center. A bit of sweetness on the nose, but it really seems like a lighter IIPA on the nose.
T- There is a bit of caramel malt at first. Actually this beer is very sweet throughout. Fairly soon a big hop kick comes in with citrus and pineapple flavors very heavy. Rye malt is noticable but it takes a backseat.
M- Medium body. The carbonation is mild at first but seems to pick up a lot in the mouth. Very very dry finish, especially given how sweet the beer was.
O- Very good. A big hoppy beer that is complex and I can enjoy these often.

Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.
Received this as an extra from Rob in our trade! Thank you!!
A - Pours a deep rich mahogany color. Perfectly clear with a nice 2 finger creamy head which lasts a long while which huge lacing.
S - Huge hop character aroma. You can almost taste the bitterness though the nose. Piney/Earthy hops with a deifnitive rye spice.
T/M - Not what I was expecting, really, but good. It stars out with huge hoppy flavor - more earthy tones than a citrus character. The beer quickly transitions to an almost peppery flavor. A different sort of sweetness in the middle towards the end which melds nicely with a less intense bitterness than I anticipated. A complex flavor that is actually quite smooth with a spicy rye bite - nice! Medium bodied with a nice carbonated body.
D - Very! I didn't notice the alcohol and it went down very easy.
Overall, this is a very good beer and I am very grateful for the chance to sample.

Reddish-mahogany in appearance, with more amber tones on the edges. About half a finger of off-white head. Good lacing and minor retention. Smells good. A musky, grainy earthiness mixed with roasted malt. Not overly pungent, but sufficiently aromatic. Quite a good brew. Initial hop bite that's semi-piney. That gives way to a full malt and rye middle that tactfully builds toward the end. Back end is sharp but creamy and allows the piney hop notes to re-emerge in the mouthfeel. A very flavorful brew that's not boastful. A solid take on the rye ale.
Like It? Very Much So

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle labeled best by 04/21/12.
A- Pours a dark amber, borderline light-brown color. Forms a half fingers worth of head that quickly dissipates. A nice film stays along the top and edge of the glass.
S- Smells lightly of citrus and malts. Some sweet fruits as well.
T- Starts smooth with noticable malts before finishing with the rye spiciness and hop bitterness.
M- Medium bodied, easy to drink, nice hop bitterness at the back of each sip.
A good rye beer, one of my favorites from my local Two Brothers Brewery.

A - Pours a deep amber color with very little head, but leaves behind lots of sticky lacing.
S - Smells of toasted bready malts, fruity hops & spice from the rye.
T - Touch of caramel & citrus rind hit the palate first, followed by spicy rye & fruity hops.
M - Smooth and creamy.
O - Great beer, good balance of sweetness & bitterness.

12 oz. bottle served in a FFF anniversary pint glass. Best by 2/20/2012 on the bottle.
A: Pours a deep amber, almost cherrywood like color with lighter amber edges. A two finger, off white head forms on the pour and leaves some nice sticky webbings of lace.
S: Nice floral hops, some rye spice, little bit of citrus zest, and some honey-like sweetness that I can only assume is the palm sugar.
T: The palm sugar gives this an odd sweetness upfront that doesn't seem to really blend mesh with the rest of the drink. It is nice though with some rye spice, a little bit of fruitiness, mainly apples and pears, and some nice sweet floral hops.
M: This is what kills it for me. I don't know if it was just my bottle, but it had some below average cabonation and it really turned into a sticky mess. I was expecting some stickiness with the style, but the lack of carbonation almost turned into a syrup. The body was full flavored though.
O:If the body had more carbonation I would have really enjoyed this, but it really knocked it down a couple pegs. I will revisit in the future and hopefully it was just my bottle. The flavors were nice though and it was probably the best tasting offering from Two Brothers.

Poured from bottle to pint glass. Has a nice head of a few inches and a nice deep red color.
Odor is somewhat neutral. Slight odor of citrus and floral.
Taste is floral as well. Also has a sour note from the rye. Mouth feel is hearty but not overly heavy.
Overall one of the best two brothers beers. A very good rye beer in general.

Found this at the Whole Foods on Houston Street in New York and saw that the reviews are good on here. I like this style because of the hops and full-bodied aspect and this beer certainly did not let me down. It was easy to drink, flavorful, and had just the right amount of sweetness in it to complement everything. In short, this was the most pleasant surprise that I had in a long time!
This beer had a wonderful pour to it, with a deep brown hue that was radiant and light in the middle. The head lasted for quite a long time and the lacing could have been a bit better, even though it was present for most of my drinking session. As for the taste, it was quite strong of sugar, with some pine up front. That gave way to a more earthy and richer back, that had just a bit of floral and lemon underneath the sharp hops. The mouthfeel was nicely balanced and the back cleaned like mint, in terms of the taste and strength of it. The complexities were here but this never felt too overpowering or overdone. Instead, this had a very up-front feel that lasted from start to finish.
To be sure, there was alcohol too but it never felt too strong. This is a Rye Beer and a great example of that, as there was just a hint of spice to offset the sweetness. I loved this beer and even though it's not for everyone, Two Brothers has a winner here. I'd certainly buy this again!

Taupe lumpy lacey head. Gooey, funky, bitter orange hops with a touch of caramel on the nose.
A bit of red currant and toffee and some rye spice, then resiny orange rind hops.
Spicy end and a tight pulp linger. Light-medium, sticky, creamy.
A bit thin, and rye doesn’t add enough bite. Nose is better than the taste. Not up to the standard of Founders Red’s.
I notice many of the most worshipful reviews are old, I wonder if this was just good for its time.
Also starting to have questions about Two Brothers…

This has been a want of mine for a while. Saw it in a six pack and had to grab it.
A - pours a lot darker than I anticipated. Brownish/copper color with a really nice billowing head that leaves a really nice lacing down the glass.
S - the nose has spicy rye malts, some piney, resinous hops, and some candy-like sweetness
T - starts off up front with a sugary sweetness that fades into a really nice rye flavor. The rye has a caramel / brown sugar richness to it that makes it very smooth. Ends with some nice hoppy, piney bitterness, which contrasts the sweet and spiciness from the rye and caramel malts.
M - nice and full bodied with a nice amount of carbonation
D - this is the best rye beer I have had to date. Really nice flavor profile to and pretty damn attractive in the glass. Glad to see this in six packs now with about the same price point it used to be. I'll be buying more of this in the future.

Poured into a snifter.
3.5 A: Two Brothers sure has an interesting take on the color red. This is purplish black. One finger of frothy beige head. Retention is lacking, but a short ring of lacing is left.
4.0 S: This has a hell of a lot more hop character than rye, but in any case it smells great. Citrusy and floral hops. Just a touch of spicy earthy rye underneath. Toasty malts with minor caramel notes.
2.5 T: The taste is confused. Moderate, though out of place, hop bitterness that comes off in an almost burnt nature. Rye is much more apparent, but it doesn't work well with the hops. That isn't to say it can't. I've had rye IPAs that were delicious. A touch of roastiness, toast, and sugary caramel.
3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy, but lacking smoothness due to the perceived burnt flavors.
2.5 D: I think this would have worked better if they used less bittering hops. In any case, it's at least interesting.

A- Sort of a murky, rusty shade of amber, with a light khaki head and decent lace/retention. Appearance almost borders that of a brown ale.
S- Grapefruit hops up front, accompanied mostly by other citrus aromas. This is slightly floral, with the rye coming through on the back end along with some clove and candy sugar.
T- Follows the nose. Nice floral presence up front followed by a mild sweetness, and slightly bitter/dry finish. Tasty.
M- Smooth, oily, a bit dry from the hops and the rye. Would not have guessed that this is 7%, as it is very easy to drink.
O- This is a very solid brew overall. It doesn't necessarily kill it in any one aspect, but makes for a great overall package. I would certainly drink this agian.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Muddy red, almost chestnut in color. Frothy, two-finger light beige head that leaves a thick, sticky lacing.
Nose is pine, caramel sweetness, and a touch of grassiness.
Taste follows the nose pretty well. An initial, fleeting sweetness gives way to some nice hop flavor and bitterness. Sweetness comes around more as the beer warms, and I begin picking up some hints of tobacco.
Medium body and carbonation, the hop resins seem to coat the tongue. Fairly dry finish.
I could drink several of these in a sitting. Overall very well balanced, and the ABV seems to be hidden fairly well.

Served on-draught into a Flying Dog pilsner glass in St. Paul, Minnesota. Reviewed from notes.
A: Pours a one finger head of fair cream, good thickness, and decent retention. Colour is a dark nontransparent amber.
Sm: Cream, toasted malt, and very light caramel. Maybe butterscotch. A mild strength aroma.
T: Lovely toasted malt foundation. Some nice cream and butterscotch tones lie atop. Fairly complex. Well built and pretty well balanced.
Mf: Smooth and wet. Somewhat tingly. A bit too thick. Pretty complementary of the flavours.
Dr: Pretty drinkable, but it costs a lot. It isn't as unique as it should be. Hides its ABV well. For a rye beer, it's not bad.

Pours a a murky, brownish-amber color with a small off-white head that disappears quickly. Scent is very sweet with some lovely hop aromas. Sweet caramel malt as well. Somewhat piney. Maple syrup? Taste is immediately caramel malt with some delicious rye flavors. Great hops balanced with rye and sweet malt. A bit of honey and citrus. A lot of pine. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, well carbonated, with a somewhat sticky finish. Drinkability is high. Overall, I really wish there were more rye beers. This is a great one.

One of my favorite chicagoland beers. I love C&E. In my opinion this is the best of all the Two Brothers' beers, and I really like a few of there offerings. I keep a six pack in my fridge at all times.
Pours a deep amber with a nice thick, creamy white head. Very nice lacing.
Smell is bready with some pine resin and citrus undertones.
Hoppy bitterness begins the palate's journey with pine up front with a good solid bready backbone. A well balanced and very solid take on a Rye P.A. I can drink this everyday and not get tired of it.

12oz bottle poured into tulip - thanks to therobot
Pours a deep burnt amber, almost browned color with a light tuft of beige head on top. Fades out completely into a few bubbles of film, webbed lacing coats the glass.
Bitter and spicy in the nose with citrus hops. Rye spice and faint bready malts with soft sweetness. Pretty spicy and hoppy overall.
Spike of bitter hops up front with citrus driven by orange and grapefruit. Hints of peel and rind with some soft juiciness. Rye spice pleasantly burns through. Lighter bready and caramel notes drive through with the malt backbone. Finishes bitter, juicy, and citrusy.
Medium body, higher carbonation, sticky and prickly on the tongue. Drinkable, hoppy, spicy, and delicious. I'd buy this regularly if it was available here.

A- a hazy amber hue with a thin head and light lace.
S- very earthy spice aroma accompanied by sweet malt and juicy hops. Smells wonderful.
T- Carraway seed, toast, pine, bitter lemon rind, and malt make this a wonderfully balanced rye-p.a type beer.
O- a rye beer that is at once spicy, hoppy, and malty. Really a great offering, my first from two bros, won't be my last.

Thanks to crushedvol for this bottle.
A: Pours a murky deep redish brown that isn't fully opaque. There is a wonderful 1/2 finger of creamy tan head that slowly dissipates. It leaves just a thin ring along the top of the beer.
S: Smells really malty with some obvious rye spice hidden in there. There are also some floral hop notes to this brew.
T: Starts off sweet and a bit bready, with some fantastic spice to it. The rye really shines through. I love rye beers. It finishes with some more sweetness and just a slight taste alcohol.
M: Full bodied beer, some cloying in the start. The flavors of this beer linger on the palate for a bit.
O: A really solid drinker. There is a great balance with the malty sweetness and the spicy rye. Each flavor is spot on. I like it. If it were available near me, I'd buy some bottles every now and again.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a nonic glass.
A: Slightly hazy, dark amber color with over one finger of rocky and persistent mocha-tinted foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.
S: Fruit, featuring dark citrus and savory herbaceous spice, is detected. Caramel is also comfortably positioned in the smell, perhaps leaning into butterscotch.
T: Begins off-dry, with intense caramel, earthy black tea, and juicy citrus that is very dark. Acidity is restrained into the middle, where the authentic tea flavors develop increasing umami and astringency. This beer finishes rustic, savory, and herbaceous, with bitterness that accumulates on the palate slowly yet reaches a fairly bracing intensity.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, wet and sticky on the palate, with low carbonation.
D/O: This intensely savory beer drowns out the advertised hopped-up qualities, borrowing just enough citrus to allow a nod in the direction of balance. It combines a solid malt-dominated front end with fairly strong pure bitterness at the end. While as drinkable as most IPAs, it seems a bit less composed that some other offerings from Two Brothers, such as Domaine du Paige or Resistance.

Bottle purchased from Friar Tuck's in Savoy, IL.
Best by 9/8/11.
Poured into a standard US pint glass.
Pours a 2cm tall head off light tan, medium-sized bubbles. Settles within a few minutes to a 0.5cm cap atop the body for the duration of drinking the beer. Leaves some lacing on the sides of the glass. Body is a dark amber color, transparent, with visible carbonation. Very nice.
Aroma is deeply malty, worty, caramel, some brown sugar, faint rolling hop bitterness along with pine resin and light citrus. Ethanol present if inhaled too hard.
Taste opens with some complex malt sweetness joined with brown sugar characters, and vanilla. Bittering and citrus hops become present quickly thereafter, transitioning to a continued hop presence with malt sweetness and detectable rye tang character. Ethanol present in the back, more noticeable as this warms. Aftertaste of sugary sweetness and bitter hops. Generally balanced.
Body is medium to medium-heavy, good for the ABV and intensity of this beer. Carbonation is somewhat strong, but makes this gently foam up in the mouth, which seems to add a pleasant dimension to sampling this beer.
An extremely tasty beer, full of complexity and style. If they could lower the ABV a point to avoid the detectable ethanol, this would improve the beer. I believe this would be even more spectacular when fresh.

Pours a deep ruby with an off-white rocky foam head, some of which clings to the glass on its way down. Rye malts are prevalent in the nose, though the hops take a close second. The same goes for the taste, too; the rye pairs perfectly with how bitter this brew is. Dry finish, and the mouthfeel is a bit lighter than I would expect. Overall this is an exceptional beer from Two Bros, a brewery that's soon becoming one of my local favorites.

A: Pours a dark copper, amber color with two fingers of a tan head. The head has incredible texture with lot of bubbles and texture. It's slow to fade leaving behind caked on lacing and a very attractive film with more large bubbles. Wow.
S: I wish I would have drank this sooner because I can tell the hops in this were pretty spectacular. Citrus/Tropical fruits with spicey rye and bready malts.
T: Hops are still out front with rye adding a good amount of spice to this. Dark fruits and bready malts round things out.
M: Full almost chewy.
O: I really wish I would have opened this sooner to realize the full effect of the hops. Regardless, this is a very well crafted beer that I will most certainly seek out again.
