A - dark butterscotch with a thin white lacing. Ruby red highlights that appear crystal clear. Good looking beer.
S - slight vanilla and caramel with a slight spiciness of the rye. floral hops are balanced along with highlights of malt. After taking a sip i am picking up on some sort of oak or slightly resinous wood. Incredible balance to a red rye.
T - smooth vanilla and caramel balance a slightly spicy undertone of rye. Again, incredible balance keeps the rye balanced. No bite from the bitterness of the hops just floral note that melds with the malt charecter. Layers of flavor picked up on just one sitting.
M - Smooth and slick, a slight spiciness comes about as the beer touches the back of the tounge. A balanced dextrinous beer proves to be quite evident.
D - I wish i could have bought a case. One sitting is not enough... I try to savor each sip to preserve the lone bottle. A very easy drinking brew.

L: Dark amber mahogany color, about 1 inch of head...lacing along edges
S: rye, and citrus
T: hops up front, slightly bitter. Rye spice and malty sweetness follows. Rye hangs in the aftertaste.
F: Medium bodied, medium carbonation. nothing off here.
O: Solid, refreshing, flavorful beer. My first Rye, and left a good impression.

Appearance - came with a finger of khaki head, body is a translucent garnet, leaves excellent lacing
Smell - sweet rye bread, light toffee, faint citrus
Taste - much like the nose, much like the bread with a touch of brown sugar, light molasses, nice rye spice, finishes with semi sewer rye crusts.
Mouthfeel - medium mouthfeel, carb isighter side of medium and smooth, drinks easily, finishes slightly dry.
Overall - an. Excellent and tasty rye ale, very nice representation of the style, highly recommend.

As a big fan of Rye beers, I was very excited to receive this bottle as a gift. It pours a translucent, carbonated, deep ruddy hue, with a thick layer of foam blanketing the top. Excellent retention and lacing. It's got a very sweet, yet earthy aroma, likely due to the Palm Sugar. I actually am imagining raw sugar cane having a similar scent. Bready grains were noted along with a touch of Lemon Balm or Hyssop. The flavor was quite hoppy with toasted rye bread and a backing from the malts. It finishes very dry. Overall, this felt a little light across the palate but was still very enjoyable.

Best by 6/6/13, so close to the expiration.
A: Pours a surprisingly dark red. Can't even see through it. Big, fluffy light tan head. Almost an off-white really. Fades nice and slow with great retention. More great lacing (seems like Great Lakes should be more Great Lacing in fact).
S: Not much aroma at all. A little bit of rye bread and some floral notes? Hmph. Might be the age.
T: Floral notes up front. Then spicy rye bready notes from start to finish. Sweet bready notes intermingle too to balance it out. Mild grapefruit hops up front. A little wave of earthy bitterness and more grapefruit in the finish. Very dry in the aftertaste.
M: Medium bodied, smooth and dry.
O: I was expecting a hoppy rye ale but definitely not THAT hoppy. Floral and grapefruit hops but more of an english pale ale level of hops and bitterness. Well balanced, smooth and very drinkable rye beer.
