Pours a murky orange-gold color with a white head that was barely noticed before it was gone. Very malty nose. Nearly no aromatic hop presence. DIPA?? Mouthfeel is nice with good balance. Very malty flavor. Bittering hops want to appear toward the middle/finish, but some misplaced Belgian yeast spice bullies its way into the palate. Not very good at all.

Chilled 22 oz. bottle into an imperial shaker pint. No notches on the date strip, but based on other reviews it's probably not more than six months old or so.

Look- Clear medium amber with two fingers of off-white foam. Very dense, good retention. Very nice lacing.

Smell- Sweet, lightly floral, vaguely nutty. Something of a spicy tealike character Pretty nondescript, it's got a bit of alcohol bite. Would be better if it wasn't as sweet and the herbal/floral character was more pronounced, but it's still pretty appealing.

Taste- Simliar to the nose, but this time the residual sugars are a bit too much for me. Treacly sweet, tealike hops. Musky, slightly piney finish. As it warms, it takes on a drier, almost woody character and I get a few flashes of candied/gelatinized orange. Despite a few interesting twinges, I really find myself hunting for more flavor. 89 IBU? Where?

Mouthfeel- Light-medium body, soft carb, fairly easy drinking for the ABV. Light syrup feel, not as boozy as anticipated. Clean, dry finish. Mild warming.

Overall- Almost a great beer, but it's simply too sweet and lacks the depth of flavor I'd expect from something branded as a DIPA and weighing in at 10% ABV. Still, it's fairly easy drinking, which I sense is what the brewers were going for.

Appearance: the dipa pours with a nice yellow head that dissipates fairly quickly. The beer itself is a deep opaque amber. Other than the head, it has the common attributes of an double IPA.

Smell: A ton of residual sugar and caramel on the nose with a very
light, almost nonexistent, floral hop character. Has the scent of unfinished or improperly brewed homebrew.

Taste: the first flavors that hit my pallette are rubbing alcohol, caramel, molasses and a slight hoppy bitterness. The bitterness lingers butnim not sure if that is the alcohol or the hops. This beer is pretty bad.

Mouthfeel: Over carbonated providing a ver sharp bite on the tongue. Not enough body for an imperial IPA. Could use additional residual sugar to balance the alcohol and hops.

This is the first beer from this brewery that I've had but it has not left a good impression on me. I've heard their Monkfish is good so I will give that a try before passing judgement on the brewery itself.

Snifter.

A: Dark orange with nice clarity and a fleeting white head.

S: Uninspired but strong bready malt base with muted, dull, and abused citrus hop notes. They've learned their lesson and they do not want to be beaten again. Alcohol is strong. Alcohol and boring malt dominate.

T: An abundance of bread, caramel, and booze. Wow, that's an unpleasant combination. The bitterness is harsh and astringent, being heavy on the citrus rind. Tastes like some orange soaked in grain alcohol. The finish is overwhelmed by malt with stinging booze.

M: Medium body with lower medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is heavy and syrupy.

Overall: This is hilariously bad. This is one of the worst Double IPAs I've had. Thank god this was free.

Picked this one up tonight at Brewforia in Meridian. The label says 89 IBU's and I think they might be underestimating a bit. :-)

Poured into my small Cigar City goblet... pours a clear orange... the not much in the way of a head... but a short lasting sorta hazy yellow film rises and drops quickly.. cap and lacing are pretty much nonexistent... Good color, but more head would be a bunch better.

Hop nose is huge and fresh... bunches of fruity hoppiness with some good floral essence.... a fair amount of pale malts help bloom the hops, but in the end, this smells like a bitter bomb.

bracing bitterness begins up front and doesn't let up until the finish... the hops are again pretty fresh, but are bombarded by the bitter bite... decent citrus and tropical fruitiness mid palate toward the end... the malts are a touch thick for a PNW DIPA... but still help the hops come and play around the palate.. lingering grapefruit pithiness lingers forever.

Bigger body than most DIPA... light carbonation accentuates the thicker mouthfeel and does nothing to make it more drinkable...

I was expecting more for paying 11.99 for a bomber...granted the beer has 9.9%, I think the beer is 'trying' to do more than it 'does.' (with the x2 IPAs), It’s strong, but too flat…Tastes like home-brew…This beer is worth $4.99, not $11.99...
not impressed :~(

Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a medium orange amber, half finger light yellow-tan head that dissipates into a thin film and ring around the glass with tenuous lacing. Active carbonation. Aroma of herbal hops and caramel malt. Flavor is sweet malt and hops up front with some citrus and light fruit flavors developing and then finishes with intense hop flavor and bitterness. The fruit component provided a fairly unusual flavor progression that is interesting. The finish is a bit astringent, but is supported by nice fresh hops. Medium bodied. I like malty IPAs and this one hit the spot.

A solid DIPA, if a bit caramel malt heavy for my taste. The liquid's color is about Tangelo on wikipedia's shades of orange chart. Smallish light beige head. It looks like a hearty DIPA. The aroma has a ton of hop and malt flavor. There's a big grapefruit/pine note with a good dose of more floral and fruitier (peaches and pineapples) hoppiness, as well. The malt is all caramel and sweet dough. I'm pleased to find a hefty bitterness, as DIPAs seem to be trending toward less bitter territory. There's some upfront caramel, fruity sweetness, but the beer drys out some by the finish. There's a fair bit of malt character, which gets in the way of the hops a bit for me. Medium body. It's a little bit harsh in the finish, but that's not a complaint for a nearly 10% abv DIPA. The hoppy aftertaste lingers for quite awhile. It's a good beer, but it doesn't really differentiate itself enough from the pack, and as I've mentioned a couple times, I prefer my DIPAs with a bit less caramel malt flavor. However, it's still a good version of this style of DIPA and a well-made beer.

Glad I got to try it, but it is expensive for a pretty only okay DIPA.
