On tap at Against the Grain, Dublin.
Glowing dark amber with creamy beige film that rings.
Gooey nectar nose with toasty hints.
Granola, candy corn and marmalade up front, with a Seville hop hit.
Piney herbal finish and resiny linger that also has a powdery Berocca orange quality.
Medium-light, oily, well-attenuated.
Cali hops redux. I know Chinook to be pine more than citrus, but also don't see it as aroma much, so I'm guessing that's why the orange notes are a surprise. The 10% is *very* quiet.
Lean and sly.

Hey Mikkeller. Suck it.
Looks nice on the pour. Good head. Flavor profile is a bit boozy really. But the hop character that is there is earthy and consistent. Somewhat muddled, but it's still distinct. Feel is smooth. Kind of a sipper from the boozy tone, but I like it.
This is how a single hopped beer should be.

A: This poured a hazy gold with moderate white head.
S: It smelled like bitter orange zest, with some sweet caramel malt and candied apricot.
T: It tasted like orange zest and candied apricot, with some copper hops and sweet caramel. It had a mostly clean and bitter aftertaste with alcohol warming.
M: It was slightly thick with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was a decent 2IPA, interesting to better understand Chinook hops. But otherwise nothing spectacular in the scent or taste or body. It had a fairly hot finish, so it was not the easiest to drink. Nice to try once, but not a super impressive brew.

Flying Dog Single Hop Imperial (Chinook) isn't the best of the flying dog single hop imperials. It's spicy and has some chlorine flavour.
A: Orange colour and a 3 mm head that lasts pretty well. 4
S: Sweet hoppy smell as well as some chlorine aroma. Some pine aroma. 3.5
T: Malty with some sweet and spicy flavours. Juicy orange and strong alcohol. Some chlorine in the finish and some bitterness. 3.5
M: Foamy. 4
O: 3.5

Poured into a shaker pint: Light golden-orange body under two fingers of lumpy, cream head. Transparent.
Smells of a sweetly creamy orange, like orange soda almost. Slightly more bitterness with a good inhale, like some peel, but not much more. I'm cool with that.
Some more juicy orange but coupled with a brisk tea-like leafiness & a little pithy bitterness. Super citric, with a sweet orange soda note lasting into the aftertaste. Very pleasant.
Smooth, surprisingly light-bodied for an imperial, with a combination sticky sweetness & resiny bitterness in the after.
Really digging these single-hop IPAs - even if it's not my favorite beer, I appreciate the educational experience. And this one was a pleasure to boot, nicely done.

So I was trying this beer for th first time after a Flying Dog Brewery Tour. Nothing like straight from the Factory flavor. Our tour guide said this beer was brewed in the same fashion as the Raging Bitch, but only using one hop variety "Chinook" unlike Raging Bitch which uses three different varietals in the brewing process.
The beer pour golden and is translucent. Ice cold. Carbonation was moderate to heavy like most Flying Dog Beers. During their process they force carbonation adding a little extra zip.
As for the aroma this compared to the other Single Hop Imperial IPAs was the smoothest. I thought it was the most floral and least bitter between the two others I tried Centennial and Citra. The taste was light in respect to other breweries that focus on Ales and was very crisp. I ended up buying a growler of this Single Hop Imperial IPA as I thought it was the best of the three. By no means am I a hop head or IPA guy, I prefer Belgian strong ale and this seemed the most mild of the three in bitterness.

Deep yellow in color with an amber hue and slight haze. Poured with stiff white foam that reduced to a thick cap with lots of sticky lacings. Citrus aroma up front followed by resinous pine hop aromas. The hops aromas are a bit subdued with sweet malty and boozy notes in the background. On the heavier side of medium bodied for a DIPA with ample, creamy, rich carbonation. A touch of citrus hop flavor up front on the first sip but after that this is pine hop bitterness smacking you in face with every swig. Strong boozy flavors kick-in toward the end making this a sipper. Finishes with a touch of citrus hop flavor but mostly lingering pine hop bitterness and alcoholic heat. This was a bit boozier than I care for – even for a DIPA.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Clear orange. Thick, two-finger creamy head that hangs around. Kinda look like clouds sitting on top of the beer. Pretty neat. Laces beautifully.
S: Citrusy, piney, some pineapple
T: Citrus, fruity, piney, hoppy. All the good stuff.
M: Medium body, creamy, smooth. Well-balanced with the carbonation.
Overall: Excellent. I can taste some subtle uniqueness to this beer. A definite must-have for hopheads. Kicks butt at 10% too.
