750ml bottle from Junto Society. Into the "new" Flying Dog glass.
Appearance - Solid brown with some amber highlights. Thin perhaps less than one finger off white head. No lacing and hardly retention.
Aroma - Malty. chocolatey, Belgian spice, dark fruits, brown sugar. yeast.
Taste - Follows the aroma profile pretty well. Big malty flavor. Dark fruits and chocolate. Sweet brown sugar flavor that I suppose is coming form the maple syrup.
Medium bodied. Fizzy. Lingering spicy finish. Enjoyable but a little off on the style. I'll sit on the 2nd bottle for awhile and see if anything else develops.

A - Pours with one finger of off white foam on top of a hazy, dark brown body. The foam fades at a moderate pace and leaves light lace.
S - Toasty malt and some dark caramel with some peppery yeast.
T - Dry caramel up front with a bit of sweet malt rounding things out in the middle. Some toffee and red apple comes out as the beer finishes up with a bit of licorice and clove lingering on the palate.
M - Medium thick body, moderate carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish.
D - This beer has potential, but it doesn't quite get there. It is undercarbonated and too sweet for the style, if those issues were resolved it could be pretty nice.

A: small head on a murky brown, muddy body with no lacing really.
S: sweet dark fruits, mostly raisin and fig with some candy sugar and caramel.
T: lightly toasted and caramel malts, cinnamon, dark fruits. comes across and one dimensional and simple, carbonation distracting from the flavors. Little in the way of belgian yeast or other belgian character.
M: medium body and moderate to high carbonation, with a dry finish. I feel its bordering on too carbonated.
Overall: Not "belgian" enough for me. A little too carbonated and simple. Not a bad beer just not great.

Racked on: April '12, No. 003. 750 ml into a Chimay goblet. I purchased this in Frederick, MD over the summer. Roughly 8 months old at this point.
A - Pours a clear but dark brown/red body. Fizzy one finger light tan head forms and disappears for some thick edging. Solid amount of lacing.
S - Plums and raisins, brown sugar, alcohol heavy yeast, caramelized banana, molasses and copper pennies. Not very well integrated.
T - Caramelized dark fruits lead into some bready malts. Brown sugar and spices with a mineral finish. Rich and earthy.
M - Perfect level of silky carbonation, medium bodied. Clean finish with some lingering yeast esters and alcohol burn.
O - Not a bad dubbel at all. A bit weak compared to the Belgians, but it does manage to capture some nice flavors and aromas. Awfully hot for a 7.6% beer.

A- Cloudy cola colored body with an off-white head that does not leave much lacing.
S- Belgian yeast and spices come through first. There is a sweet nutty hazelnut malt note, maple syrup is noticeable, along with a sweet dried fruit aroma.
T- Sweet and fruity right off the bat. There is a strong raisin taste initially, followed by a medium toasted malt taste and finishes with a sweet maple syrup flavor.
M- Creamy with medium-low carbonation. The finish leaves a sweet residue across the palate.
O- Had this on tap at the brewery and wasn't thrilled, but the bottled version is very good. A lot of complex flavors in an American Dubbel.

Big sautéed dark fruits on top of cheesecake topped with maple vanilla syrup. Thats exactly what this smells like.
Muddy brown in appearance with a light tan head. No speakable lacing, but loads of carbonation.
In the flavor, there are tons of plums, over-ripe grilled peaches, raisins, molasses, and pumpernickel bread. Loads of carbonation are also present in the mouthfeel making it very effervescent. with a thick kind of syrupy tasting but not feeling body. No alcohol in the taste, but I can feel it only after a few sips. Today is going to be a good day.
