Part of the Shock & Awe Variety Pack - $16.99 at Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body with a smallish, light beige head.

Smell: Chocolaty scent with a fair amount of roasted barley grains within. Light, leafy hops. A little berry accent. Really not picking up much oyster-anything in the nose.

Taste: Lightly charry breadcrusts, some milk chocolate, and a little splash of mild coffee. Modestly sweet. Lightly fruity. Leafy, spicy hops, not overblown, and giving a light bitterness. A little briny, salty, but not much, really. Gently roasty, lightly chocolaty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A particularly light oyster stout with only the faintest hints of the salty, briny, mineral-laden overtones that most have. Go on, slip one to your vegan friends.

A: Black with a thin but steady head and decent lacing

S: Slightly tart and briney; a lot of coffee with some subtle dark fruits but that saltiness is striking

T: Balanced stout with a subtle salty quality and roasted coffee malts--this is pretty good

F: Medium, creamy body

O: I like this beer (though I hate the name); not over complicated but balanced and tasty

A - Darkness. Almost pitch black. Heavy and thick looking. A beer that would make AAL lovers quiver in fear. A very thin head which quickly dissipated.

S - Typical for a stout, lots of stuff going on. Lots of malt, the roasted character and slight cocoa aroma of a bock, and a unique, powerfull sweetness. Tough to put my finger on that one. Very good aroma.

T - Strong and quality. All the aromas were featured, in addition to a coffee-like bitterness. Unusual, but very good. Being an Oyster Stout, I was disappointed to be unable to taste said oysters or anything resembling seafood. There was another unique taste that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Maybe that's part of it.

F - OK, not great. Very thick. Would probably be good with food. Not much carbonation felt. Felt damn good going down, though.

O - My first ever Oyster Stout, and I enjoyed this brew. A powerful, uniqe flavor that I will enjoy again.

Notes from The Attic...

This stout is a very dark brown with some lighter brown at the edges. A small tan head, sparsely-bubbled but pretty tight, leaves spots and patches from a reasonably thick cap left after it falls.
There's a nice roast on the nose with a bit of smoke, and there are some chocolaty notes as well. Firm and pretty robust on the whole, it's easy to tell it's a stout. The mineral and very, very mildly briny hints remind me it's more than that. Oyster is barely detectable from the smell, though.
Oyster isn't overdone, and the overall affect isn't so much fleshy as roasty. A little bitter char going into the finish builds off a particular earthiness. Well-rounded overall, though I'd actually like to see a bit more.
All in all I'd say it's got a bit too much bite for a stout. There's a good creaminess to it. The crispness tames with time, but there's still quite a hard nip, even going into a slightly drier finish.
