Had this at the first Bootleggers beer dinner in DC.
The guys from Flying Dog were pouring this beer and they told me it was the Gonzo Imperial Porter aged in Bourbon Barrels and then refermented with Brettanomyces.
It poured a very oily pitch black color with discrete red hues when looked against the light. No carbonation or head whatsoever.
Smell is funky and...delicious: lots of vanilla, oak, tartness and cherries. Also some booze.
Taste starts very tart/acid with cherries, grapes and little barnyard. The vanilla and bourbon notes appear towards the end. Sweet/sour aftertaste leaves your mouth watering. Alcohol warmth follows.
Body is medium to high with extremely low carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel.
Overall a nice experiment from flying dog. IMO it is way too Bretty and vinegary though.
