12 oz. bottle poured into la fin du monde glass... My bottle indicates 11.5% abv and vintage 08

Appearance: pale copper caramel color with an initially plumy head that comes down quickly, other times i have had this brew the retention has been really excellent and produced a lot of lace.

Smell: Juicy and fruity and oh so so hoppy. A little bit of citrus fruit like orange specifically, not rind just the fruit and maybe a little apricot. There is also some caramel or toffee like aroma that is not as apparent and maybe a little vanilla or nutmeg, and the HOPS oh the hops, this one smells like it might be from early in 08 but they are certainly still there in their piney glory.

Taste: This guy is all bitter at the first sip, right to grapefruit or other citrus rind bitterness that dominates. After the hops smack down your palate the malty flavors become more apparent. A lot of alcohol is also very present which is definitely a minus, ive had this on tap and this was not as apparent.

Overall: A tasty and over the top version of an IIPA. Significantly better than their single IPA but I wouldnt put this in the realm of elite IIPA's. Worth a try for sure, better on tap than in the bottle

Poured into a snifter.

A: Slightly hazy golden copper color with one-finger, foamy, creamy, off-white head that lasted a couple minutes and left a nice film. Fantastic lacing.

S: Caramel malt. Pine and citrus.

T: Moderate sweetness and moderate bitterness. Caramel malt, pine and citrus, like the nose. Alchohol was mostly unnoticable which was surprising.

M: Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Crisp and slightly dry.

O: A good imperial IPA. High ABV, but you couldn't tell from drinking it.
