Finally had this one last night, I've been looking forward to trying to try this beer as well as the other brews from Flying Dog's Canis Major series. So here's what I think.

Look: Poured into a 25oz brandy snifter. Lovely amber orange and red hues with a creamy texture and colored head. All in all just beautiful.

Smell: Mild hoppy and pine scents accompanied by a honey and ginger scent with Citrus aromas. Very nice aroma overall.

Taste: Very hoppy at the forefront with the flavors of grapefruit citrus, cranberries, pine, and tad bit of ginger, as it slips to the back of the mouth it finishes with a light malt sweetness and honey flavor. As the beer warms, the hop flavor recedes to the back end of the tasting notes whereas the forefront becomes maltier with the flavor of caramel. As the beer continues to warm the overall flavors of the beer become much more mulled over and overpowered by the taste and presence of alcohol. All in all this is a very tasty beer.

Feel: Quite smooth overall but just a tad tick with a very slight tingling on the tongue. Excellent feeling overall

Drinkability: All in all it's smooth, tasty and goes down quite well. But the level of alcohol is a huge deterrent. Its quite drinkable but one is plenty.

All in all its a wonderful beer, and if I ever need a good hop fix. I usually don't like the taste of hops but I have to say that this one is quite delicious and the hops are very enjoyable. Definitely going to remain a regular in my fridge. 1 Canis Major down 3 to go.

Poured into a snifter.

A: Slightly hazy golden copper color with one-finger, foamy, creamy, off-white head that lasted a couple minutes and left a nice film. Fantastic lacing.

S: Caramel malt. Pine and citrus.

T: Moderate sweetness and moderate bitterness. Caramel malt, pine and citrus, like the nose. Alchohol was mostly unnoticable which was surprising.

M: Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Crisp and slightly dry.

O: A good imperial IPA. High ABV, but you couldn't tell from drinking it.
