Thanks to Jay for the bottle! 11.2 oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.

A: Pours a cloudy burgundy color with evident carbonation rising up to the top. Seeing as I intentionally poured the bottle to maximize the head, it was a five finger light mocha color. The retention is weird - instead of just gradually fading, the texture just becomes more bubbly, until it collapses in on itself. The end result is a much creamier looking one finger mocha-colored head that leaves massive clumps of lacing on the glass. If any beer was made for a Duvel tulip, this one is it.

S: Apple, pear, chocolate, caramel, and brown sugar. Rather simple by BSDA standards, with a weird metallic note detracting some.

T: There's an initial quality of apple/pear yeast esters, before the beer finishes with notes of chocolate, raisin, and brown sugar sweetness. Occasionally, a bit of hops appear. This is definitely on the dubbel side of the BSDA fence. There's very little thought provoking complexity, rather it fits into the category of simple refreshment.

M: The vibrant carbonation gives this a light, airy texture. Actually, the vibrant carbonation makes this one really scratchy and even harsh. It's pretty difficult to focus on the initial smoothness of the malt structure when the palate is being bombarded with carbonation and - to a lesser extent - astringency. Aftertaste is a touch sweet after a while, but this manages to subdue the booze quite well.

O: Certainly, it won't give Rochefort 8 any fits, but it's not a bad choice for a BSDA. Keeping in mind its flaws (rampant overcarbonation, simple flavors, metallic aroma), it's still decent.

A: Poured a nice brownish-red with a large white foam which recedes to a fine white foam about the perimeter of the glass. Poured into a chimay tulip glass, foam receded quickly and revealed nice bouquet

S: Bouquet hints of fruit (grape must? sour apple), little caramel and carob. Hint of rust.

T: foreward taste slightly metallic, hint of grape must, followed by sweet and malty with hint of hops which rapidly disappears to a clean finish

M: Highly carbonated which contributes to its mild acidic/bitter taste, clean finish. good accompaniement to cheese or sausage plate. Cleans the palate with each sip

Overall a very good beer, enjoyed on my patio and matches well with pizza or other grease laden meals

Pours a murky dark brown with a gigantic foamy khaki head that settles to a thick cap on top of the beer. Thick streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, dark fruits, and grape juice. Taste is much the same with grape juice and slight metallic flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and prickly mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink but there seems to be a bit too much carbonation in my opinion.

(Served in a tulip glass)

A- This beer required a bit of wrestling to get the cork out, but lead to a dense hazy deep brown body with a thin wisp of head that is soon gone. There is a hint of a few microbubbles that glide to the surface.

S- The hint of wet clay and wet stones finishes with some decaying leaves and wet old wood notes in the finish.

T- The wet wood flavor is followed by some caramel sweetness that has instant coffee flavors in it without any bitterness. There are some hints of funky in the finish but it never really grows.

M- The medium light mouthfeel has a slippery texture and no real fizz or alcohol noticed.

O- This beer is interesting but odd. There is kind of a jelly sandwich on dark whole wheat bread quality to the flavor. I’m not sure if it was the beer or just the large bottle of 9.5% ABV beer that grew on me but it was really not too bad in the end.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark reddish mahogany amber with a massive three finger tan head the dissipates slowly to a thick pillow, leaving lots of lacing. Aroma of dark, sweet malt and dark fruit. Pleasant flavor of dark fresh and dried fruit, pear and apple, Belgian yeast, sweet malt. Finishes with surprisingly sharp hops, intensified by active, peppery carbonation. Flavor is in the moderate intensity range and is somewhat sweet. Light bodied with sparkling carbonation. Not an intensly flavored Belgian, but well made and pleasant to drink.

A-Pours a dark, slightly hazy amber. That opens up with a 2 finger head that fades, but maintains a presence till the beer is gone.

S-The most prominent aroma is definitely the sweet smell of dark fruits and grapes with hints of bread/yeast.

T-Like the nose the first flavor that make itself know is the sweetness. I getting a strong grape flavor, but not overpowering. There is a bit of a caramel flavor in that sweetness as well. Once the sweetness fades I get a bready flavor from the yeast. At the very back end I'm picking up a slight metallic flavor.

M-Smooth and slightly above medium in body with high carbonation.

O-A solid beer, but a little too sweet to drink more than a glass or two.
