A: 1/8" tan head over cola coloured liquid.

S: Toasted malt and pine.

T: Toasted malt and pine hops.

M: Medium viscosity and a high level of carbonation.

O: A good Cascadian Dark Ale, although I think the hops had faded a bit.

Cam, I thank you for this beer
From notes earlier tonight (8-11-11)

A - dark brown body, with a medium tan head.

S - pungent piney hops, a hint of chocolate. Kind of weird, but interesting

T - piney hops, roasted malts. Tame, balanced, interesting.

M - dryish, medium-thick body

O - pretty good, a nice beer. Interesting stuff in here. Also, it's definitely categorized wrong. a Cascadian Dark Ale/American Black Ale/Black IPA. Not a regular IPA.

Pours a pitch black almost thick ozzy darkness. A nice bit of white head. Smells.... Interesting. Hoppy, coffee, dark chocolate and roastiness. This beer is weird... What an odd combination pf flavours. Super hoppy, coffee, very chocolatey. Super odd balance. Im not sure what to think...

Superior Black Ale. Black coloured body with thick retained off-white soapy head. Thick lace after. Marvelous rich malt and roast aroma. The roast taste is predminant and superbly done, with a good IBU hops following to the long finish. Very rich malts indeed. Very good drinkability, balance.Thanks Rutager.

*Canadian brew drank while watching the Bernard Hopkins/Jean Pascal II fight on HBO in Canada, which was fitting. Nice to see The Executioner give the young buck a lesson in "The Sweet Science". Great fight and great brew!

Pours a dark black in color w/ a 1 finger tan head that leaves lots of sticky lacing on the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, citrus fruits, and fresh cut straw/hay. The taste was of big grapefruit and citrus up front, leading into light molasses, and finishes w/ mild hop bite. Medium bodied and leaves pretty clean. Pretty damn drinkable brew!

Overall, this is a great take on the American IPA style w/ some Canadian flair. Awesome stuff!

On-cask at the final event of VCBW. Perhaps still a bit fresh... plenty of leafy hop flavour & aroma. I'd love to condition a bottle for a couple months, but unfortunately they seemed to be sold out.

A: Black with a light tan head, very bubbly cask, no retention or lace.

S: Plenty of leafy, citrusy hops!

T: Leafy hops, plenty of citrus with a little pine, hints of nutty biscuit, solid bitterness.

M: Moderate body, modest carbonation, smooth with a light hop acidity.

D: A good drinker, overall well-crafted.

Had on cask during Vancouver craft beer week's beer festival, but this review is from a bomber I picked up at Central City's beer store.

Appearance. Pours a deep, deep red-brown, close to black. Over a finger of nice thick and creamy looking, tan head that leaves some nice lacing.

Smell. Grapefruit, oranges, smokey grains and a little maple.

Taste. Grapefruit dominates. Some nice roasty malts and a little lemon zest. Hint of molasses in there too. Lasting hoppy bitterness. Really nice.

Mouthfeel. Super smooth, medium carbonation and a medium body.

Overall. Great beer that really captures BC's brewers innovation and west coast style. Glad I bought a few bombers of this while it was around.

Listed under R & B as that is who ultimately brewed this, but pretty much most of BC's craft scene contributed to this gem.

Dark brown with coppery-ruby highlights. Nice, thick, creamy light khaki head. On the nose there is a good whiff of grapefruit, with some brown sugar, molasses and coffee.

Rich malt profile mixes fresh bread, molasses and coffee. Bitter citrus, hops - lemons, grapefruit and a bit of lime. Very nice balance between an IPA and a darker, porter like beer.

Carbonation is a bit heavy handed, but other than that this is a great collaboration and an excellent example of what BC brewers are capable of. Easily one of the best examples of a CDA I've had,
