reviewed in July 2008, poured from a bottle with a best before stamp of 29.08.08, into a snifter.
it started with a decent head that went away quickly and left no lace, very nice copper color with few bubbles
I didn't get much smell or taste out of this other than alcohol
It had a syrupy mouthfeel and a bit of warming towards the end.
I feel that I may have gotten a bad bottle of this, and it should probably be tried again. I don't think that this is a fair example of this beer, especially after reading other reviews.

A: The beer is clear light amber orange in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down a bit but consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: Light aromas of apples are present in the nose along with notes of sweet malts and hints of alcohol.
T: The overall taste is a little sweet and rather malty with notes of apples and hints of alcohol. As the beer warms up, the alcohol becomes a little more noticeable.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little syrupy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer reminds me a lot like a sweetned version of an American Malt Liquor except the taste is not that offensive. The apple flavors definitely help to mask some of the alcohol. This beer is surprisingly not that difficult to drink considering its style and strength.

16.9oz bottle poured into a pint glass
Appearance- Yellowish in color with amber hues and a tiny bit of white head that fizzes away quickly. Lots of carbonation bubbles streaming up from the bottom.
Smell- A tart hop with hints of bready grainy malt.
Taste- A hint of booze followed by toasted wheat and grain with a nice tart hop balance.
Mouthfeel- Nice medium mouthfeel with tons of carbonation that is an easy drinking beer.
Overall- A very tasty beer for the style. Lots of flavor that is well balanced and pretty easy om the palate.

Poured into pint glass, color is amber, feint head.
Smell is grainy, kinda harsh, not much malt flavor to note.
Taste is also harsh, lots of grain but no malt specific notes, light adjunct. Bitterness is there but not adding anything.
Mouthfeel is actually ok, not a harsh carbonation.
Overall, a euro dark lager with nothing to stand out

Served in a pint glass.
Appearance: Slightly darker (maybe bolder is a better word) gold with little bubbles on the body. Light white head that is a settles to nothing before a sip. Take a taste and no head at all.
Smell: Light malt scent, and that is about it. Not bad but definitely not much word smelling here.
Taste: Like a serious malt beverage, I do like it but not the best you will have. Strong alcohol feel that makes the bitterness feel a little sweet. Feels like a light marzen with it slightly being creamy.
Mouth: Great after taste, but disappears as quick as you can blink.
Overall: This beer is good for a buzz, but that's really it. Not a bad thing, just don't treat it like the best beer will ever get because there is room for improvement. Salud!

Best before 3/6/13.
Pours a slightly hazy orange with a foamy orange-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is malt, grain, alcohol, and some skunky aromas. Taste is much the same with an odd fermented fruit flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of alcohol burn and a slight bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty poor beer that has a pretty unpleasant aftertaste.

Hevelius Kaper has a thin, soapy, off-white head and a semi-clear, somewhat bubbly, orange appearance. There is not much lacing here. Aroma is mild, but one can detect some bread and a little molasses. Taste is of brown bread (think Roman Meal brand), caramel, sweetness, and a decent underneath hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Hevelius Kaper finishes pretty crisp, mostly dry, and surprisingly easy drinking. This is so different from high-gravity American lagers. I think it is very good, and I recommend giving it a try.

A - Perfectly clear amber brew with slow rising carb strands.
S - Sticky sweet malt syrup. Sweetness akin to Twizzlers.
T - A lot of sweet simple malt sugar up front. An unrefined alcohol bite, with some fruit skin bitterness towards the end. Simple malt sweetness as the base. Seems like a beer that needs a lot more time, if that may help.
M - Light bodied but the abv hits the palate in a fairly unpleasant way IMO.
O - Not bad bang for the buck with 8.7% for under 2 bucks.

Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.
Finally finishing my style ticks with a beer I remember being pretty solid from my earlier drinkin' days. I hope it's still good... It pours a clear copper (go figure) topped by a half-finger of short-lived dirty-white foam. The nose is almost entirely composed of buttery biscuits, though some very light grass and flowers vainly attempt to muddle their ways through to the 'strils as well. The taste goes in a different direction, opting for a melange of caramel, mandarin orange syrup, light maple syrup, candi sugar, and a touch of mint in the background. Gotta say, this ain't the best taste in the world... The body is the heaviest light-medium possible, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta syrupy feel. Overall, a sub-standard brew, one that's having me question my earlier beer opinions...

Served @ 40F in pilsner glass.
Pours a very clear, deep gold color with an off-white head. Aroma is pretty low, some malt, spice, and lemon peel. Taste has a rich, caramel sweetness and alcohol warmth, with a lingering bitter finish. Soft, medium-bodied mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Not an elegant beer but decent.

This beer pours out as light redish golden color with a fizzy white head that vanishes quickly. The aroma of the beer is a bit herbal and kind of strange, not the most appealing smell here. The taste reminded me of a Samichlaus Helles a little bit. It was almost too flavorful I think. There was just a lot going on and not enough of a balance to figure out what. The mouthfeel was a little heavier than most lagers. Overall I wouldn't need to have this one again.
