Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a snifter.
Appears a dark reddish brown color, in the light it's more red. Half inch off-white head quickly disappears to a thin skim. A little spotty lacing.
Aroma is of sweet candi sugar mostly with hints of raisins, dark fruit, and berries. Not the best of Belgian Strong Darks but it's pretty pleasing.
The taste is very similar to the aroma. Initially a candi sugar sweetness comes out and lasts throughout then comes raisins, bubble gum, and a bit of funkiness. Finishes with a lingering sweetness and a very slight presence of hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel is quite full, nice smooth and slick feeling.
It's not a bad tasting beer, it just seems like the sweetness dominates too much and there aren't many complexities like the good Belgian stuff. What really seems to be missing is the spicy, yeasty quality of many of the good Belgian yeast strains.

Belgian dark
Brewed with Belgian candy sugar adding sweetness
Very drinkable, nice dark rich copper color. Smooth mouth feel with a bit of alcohol coming through. Very drinkable overall and a solid Belgian beer in my mind.
Back Road seems pretty consistent throughout all their styles brewed,

Pours a nice brown color with orange/copper tints to it, some decent initial head, but almost no later head and no lacing. Excellent deep, malty scent, extremely thick on the nose with slight estery hints. Very nice tastes, thick and warming, heavy on the malt, with just a very slight hop attribute; a bit of plum in the taste with a nice candy sugar bite at the end. Goes down pretty smoothly for such a high gravity beer, with just a little hint of alcohol to rough it up.
